heard theres a good chance he might transfer. Raw big man, guy I think would be worth stashing and having Jay Young develop. Not sure if he would have interest or if we would for that matter

I’d def take him . Could step right in and start if he’s eligible ; at worst be a high energy guy off the bench . Think he may have been a McDonald’s all American but could be wrong on that . Thought he was always raw . Maybe he could be at worst a Wally judge type player who was a big time recruit coming out of high school that never reached full potential but turned out to be a productive player for us in his roll

He was a consensus 5* out of high school but has been pretty disappointing at kentucky

I don’t think he’s a guy you really run plays for but you are right ; Jay young can maybe develop him into a more polished post . He’s athletic and long and can hopefully crash the boards and finish at worst .

Outside of being from NY I doubt the #18 kid and #2 C would be much interested in us. These guys dream of one and done status, hence Kentucky

In the unlikely event that this comes to fruition, there is something else to be considered; we would have three centers who are all red shirt juniors at the same time. I would be happier with a transfer that would space out the classes. Hopefully they will get a commitment from a quality incoming freshmen big man and render the issue moot.

Richards started all season as a freshman but this year he went to the bench early in the season. He now plays very few minutes for UK. Many thought he would only play one season before going to the NBA. Things really have changed.

Stanford's Reid Travis is a grad transfer that picked Kentucky and relegated Richards to the bench. I think he's raw but isn't a physical player but would help a lot of teams inside.

If there's no sit out for a year, then i can see that. Maybe there's a family event requiring him to be closer to home.

5 star transfers to Rutgers remind me of Wally Judge. There’s a reason we get a 5 star and it’s because they are usually a 3 star.

Richards has been FAR more productive at Kentucky than Judge was at Kansas State.

That said I put the odds of Richards transferring pretty low, and thus the odds of him transferring to Rutgers nearly nothing. I don't think he was ever planning on spending four years in college but if he transfers and doesn't get a waiver that's exactly what'll happen.

If he's unhappy at Kentucky he's much more likely to just turn pro and try to catch on in a league overseas IMO.

He wouldn't come here. Kids like him are to good to play a Rutgers.

He's also taking up valuable scholarship space at Kentucky....they lost Quade Green in a transfer to Washington in December and that appears to have freed up more minutes for Mathis' HS teammate Emmanuel Quickley, among others. Sometimes it's not all about what the player wants, but I still think there's something here, because this is the 3rd time his name has come up in transfer rumors and the other 2 places I saw the rumor, wasn't on a RU blog/message board etc....

If he has to sit (doubtful), then he'll probably stick around at Kentucky....if he doesn't, it could be a mutual parting of the ways. He is much more advanced than Wally Judge, but bears watching.

Just playing devil’s advocate, sometimes it’s smart to transfer in order to sit out and get that extra year of practice to get back on track. He will obviously be recruited over at Kentucky. It might be worth trying to find a better fit elsewhere
