It is real important not to let the last game have such an impact on thoughts about a team or individual player.

Against Maryland we went 20 or so possessions with just about nothing and eventually our defense suffered. What would have happened had we converted on 25% of those empty possessions? Might we be looking at a tied score coming in to half and a totally different game?

If someone can tell me how Kiss, Baker, Harper and Issa are going to do from the perimeter I'd be confident with my prediction. Are they just in a slump or is it the norm? Or a combination of both for our perimeter players.

Most OSU players will remember how easy it was to win last year at the RAC.

I expected us to be 6-14, which right now i am waffling on. Embedded in that prediction is to win a few games like this that we weren't expected to win.

I am a reversion to the mean guy. Most, including me, are down on the program right now and even having doubts whether it will be turned around. This was to be expected because progress is NOT linear.

I have to stick to my guns and say RU will look sharper and play better without too many days off between games.

I think OSU is a better matchup for Rutgers than Md was.

Don't have the length and athleticism plus Guards are young although I really like the Muhammed kid.

Will be a close game IMO decided in last 5 minutes

do i expect them to be as bad as they did vs Maryland...no....and sometimes teams struggle on the road, Maryland didnt but OSU could. Still the Maryland game was like a 25 point loss not 14...nothing that happened in those last 7 minutes RU should feel good about because the margin was cut. It was a total sh!tkicking. The constant fact remains that this is a poor shooting team and just glancing at their scores it looks like OSU does not give up a lot of points so I expect another low output by RU. RU can keep it closer by playing better defense. I am expecting a combo of Wisconsin/SHU for this game. RU plays competitive at times, goes through some rough patches but in the end the better team pulls away.

at the beginning of the season I thought a split in these first two games was important because if not RU is looking at 0-6 to start the Big 10 season. For me to feel better about this team and where we currently are in progression I need to see the trend reversed...its a downward trend for 5 games now, need to see something that gives me some hope they are capable of winniing games, if not 2 or 3 league wins could be it.

I agree it was a 25 point loss and a a$$ kicking.

Let's analyze why the a$$ kicking occurred......

I think we can explain the majority of the a$$ kicking by what occurred in the last 9:53 minutes (Mathis charge) that closed out the 1st half were we were outscored 33-6.

Looking at play by play my post above was wrong we got scored upon possession after possession after the Mathis charge. 33 points in 9 minutes

In 9 minutes....
8 turnovers

Md may have been an *** kicking but we STILL only lost by 14 on a day our best player went 1-10.

Ohio is good. But, maybe we put one together for once.

Their tallest players are listed at 6'9" so I think we'll try to get some offense out of our front line as much as possible. They also only shot 29% from 3pt in their last game against MSU. I think RU will surprise them. RU 72 - OSU 65. Kiss scores 12 and Issa gets a 3 (the old fashioned way).

OSU 73–RU 69

I’m afraid it’ll be the middle part of this sequence:

Play poorly (and lose), play well (and lose), go on the road.

The home court advantage has been neutralized by league opponents having better talent/shooters .

quite frankly, I do not see a home court advantage at the RAC, people that continually bring it up are living in the Waters/Bannon years and that is 15-20 years ago. The sad truth is that the RAC is dead and neutered by years of bad basketball. A few cheers and roars here or there does not change that. Its not an intimidating place to play. This current crop has allowed sisters of the poor to build big leads on them as well as Big 10 schools. There is zero intimidation surrounding the RAC. In fact I might argue RU plays better on the road

Very true. Fans were hardly into it when the house was packed and we got off to a great start on Satruday. We do play better on the road. The RAC is kind of a sad place.

The RAC lack of impact is based largely by Rutgers teams that are over matched in talent/ shooters. The short spurts of excitement occurs when Rutgers makes a dunk or when fans get mad at the referees. The inability to match baskets with opponents that have a pulse on offense makes the RAC a arena that has little impact on the final game result.Losing has been ingrained into the rafters of the RAC making the interior as unappealing as the drab exterior. The intimation factor has been gone for decades .Winning matters in so many different ways.

only way we win the game is if our guards can get in the lanes. This will allow our bigs to crash the boards and get a lot of blue collar points. That was the magic with Sanders. Big reason why our rebounding numbers are way down.

There is 1 part wrong with your analysis.........our rebounding is actually up on both glasses

Now I do believe we need 1 of 2 things occurring to get better 3 looks.......
1. Guards getting in to paint with the intent to primarily pass
2. Entry in to low post with dual goals of scoring or passing

Unfortunately I think only Mathis is really equipped to getting in to the lane and I don't think he has the ability YET to be a dual threat of scoring and passing.

lets see if that holds up at the end of the season.

My hope is for more perimeter players show offensive ability and force Pike to play smaller and suffer the consequences on the glass. Right now Kiss and Issa's play is not begging Pike to play them more

Next 9 games, Ohio St at home, @Minny, @Purdue, Northwestern, Nebraska, @Penn St, Indiana, @Ohio St and Michigan.

Man will all due respect where do you find more than 1 win in that stretch. I think you agree that Northwestern at home and Penn St on the road are probably RU's best bets for wins. The others will be asking a lot, probably too much. Most of those others RU will be a double digit underdog even at home. I think there is a good chance even if RU is competitive in some of those games that you could be staring at a 1-11 start before you get Illinois in Champaign.

Watch last 30 minutes of Maryland game, Columbia, and Fordham game and we are 0-20
