Teel showed he could play the QB while at Bosco. When has Artur showed that he could play the position? Not at IMG, not last year, maybe running the veer at Old Bridge when he didn't have to read defensive backs?
Many Bosco fans were calling for Matt Simms over Teel. He threw some picks back then too but in most of his games his team was superior. He was a 2 star coming in but in my opinion should have been a 3 star.

I didn’t follow Art in HS but he played at the highest level down there. I know someone who is coaching there and every kid is a D1 recruit. Bosco was great but IMG is a factory.

You should try to root for him if he starts.

Art had a terrible year but he should improve like Teel did. The difference is Teel had a very good OL. If we can run the ball and protect Art you gotta hope he gets better. Remember the first few QB’s Schiano had were not lighting it up either. Teel came in at a good time and developed nicely in his third year. Hart was a solid QB at this level and then Teel was a notch up. Maybe it will be the next guy or a grad transfer but as a Rutgers fan I hope Art is the next Teel.
It's not a foregone conclusion that Art will improve. Also, there has been no evidence in the last 3 years that points to the development of any kind of decent OL.

In hindsight, Art should have redshirted , because he was woefully unprepared for the role, and didn’t have enough support. This year, he’ll have more support, so he needs to raise his game. Reducing his ints is a good place to start.

Oh, I will certainly root for him. I was happy he came to RU, he has terrific ,strong arm, but that is just part of playing QB.
In one regard Ash and Schiano are similar, is that they both kind of hurt themselves by screwing up handling of good QBs. Savage was mishandled and transferred out, and Flacco was never given a real chance, and now we saw what he did at Towson.

Agree with you, but in all fairness, Ash was working with Flood's leftovers of Laviano, Gio, Rettig.
Where he really did not succeed is in bringing in talent. Oden, Zach Allen, the guy from Louisville who I can't even remember his name. Maybe they brought Gio to his ceiling and decided to bet the farm on Art.
It's all on Ash/McNulty now to get Art to develop or pick one of the others on the roster for 2019.

Maybe redshirted but I would have rather seen split duty like Teel and Nova their first season. Less pressure that way.

If he redshirted then next year would have been a atruggle and the clock Ian ticking for Ash.

When I was in primary flight training I was, like many students, having trouble with my landings. Honing the proper technique for that last 50 feet is a very challenging thing.

One afternoon I was sitting in my car, eating lunch, in a park with alongside a lake. I was watching the geese land in the water. I took note of the way they would swoop down and then, simply by adjusting the angle of their wings, hold themselves just off the surface of the water until they'd bled enough airspeed to just lightly settle down in the surface.

It was a "eureka" moment. I studied those geese for another hour and after that I never bounced another landing.

Unfortunately, there are no geese in the world that can either throw a football or read a defense.

Maybe Art can just watch some Towson replays.

In some ways, this post reminds me of that time Numbers hit that big home run against those 30 somethings. :)

You said Towson.

Yes, Towson led by Flacco beat P5 Bowl team Wake Forest.

Some other FCS QBs you might have of:

Joe Flacco -Delaware
Carson Wentz- ND St
Jimmy Garopalo - E.Illinois
Brad Sorensen- S Utah
BJ Coleman- Chattanooga
Rhett Bomar- Sam Houston St
Kyle Auletta
Tony Romo
etc etc

If GS stays at OSU watch out for that defense next year. They will be so much better and I expect that he’ll get a HC job in 2020. I stand by my view that OSU was an internal disaster all year and that Urban made it very difficult and not much fun for everyone this year.

If GS stays at OSU and the defense doesn’t perform well then I’ll stop saying GS is still a very good coach.

Why do people want to go back to him? It's like going back to an old GF just because she became available.

Really?

I think its more like going back to "butter" after "I can't believe its not butter" spread.

Why do the haters feel the need to come up with all these lame metaphors and similes?

Why not just say you hate his personality? That really is all you got because GS took us from the Shea years (which just might be better than where we are now) to winning minor bowl games have having us well out of the "laughing stock" roster of CFB programs.

And that's why people want him back. He got it done here. No one else has even come close.

***I should add.. OP idea is ridiculous.. no way GS comes here as DC... not to Ash. ANd everyone stop the Ash vs GS as OSU DC stuff.. its pretty clear that Luke Fickell was the brains as DC when Ash was there. And with losing so much to the NFL and injury and with issues on OSU's offense.. you cannot compare DC performances. Besides.. we all know GS plays a very risky D style that will have failures.. especially when many-star players think they are too good for assignment defense.

I was talking game day mistakes but to your point that made Schiano 8-27 and Ash is 6-30. Year 4 we slipped back to 4-7 and 1-6 in the Big East. Thank god Temple was so bad back then.
We were 4-2 that year after Homecoming when the accident occurred that evening, losing 3 defensive backs for the season and casting a pall over Schiano and the program. Schiano spent the next 2 weeks at Asberry's bedside until he pulled through.
Really?

And there's also the assumption that the poster actually had a GF in the first place.

I’m just saying you can’t call one the best and one the worst at this point in time because they are pretty similar. I doubt Ash gets a 5th year if his 4th year is as bad as 2004 was so we may may never know if the guy can do the job. I’m just glad we stuck with Schiano and also very happy Syracuse fired Pasquoloni and we got Rice and Greene. Without Cuse 2006 would not have been so special. Not sure why so many in this board hate Syracuse. I thank them in my sleep.
'Cuse made a huge error in getting rid of Paul.P. AND George DE LEONE. I knew George when he was on Frank Burns staff. Really good guy and a great coach.

nice list so what’s your point?

1. Is it Ash’s fault none of those guys played at RU?

2. What about the other 130 teams that passed on all of those QB’s?

3. Would Flacco have put up the same stats at RU last year?

I’m really trying to figure out why you listed all of those players. You missed Phil Simms at Morehead State by the way.

About Simms.. and maybe Gaurantano..

Phil Simms went to Morehead State.. probably regretted not playing for a big name team. So his son heads out of state to Texas.

James Gaurantano played for Rutgers.. was clearly good enough to play for a big name team. His son heads to Tennessee.

Rutgers is a tough job. We need someone as insane as GS was when he got here. If he doesn't truly believe Rutgers can be great, no one else will.

Rutgers isn't a tough job. It's an impossible job.
The program peaked with that Louisville win when GS was here.
And why would Schiano go from DC at Ohio State to DC at Rutgers ?
Sad to say I don't think anyone we bring in will recruit to the level that GS did...and he was often disappointing.
It's the product that's being sold. Impossible sell.

I listed those FCS QBs because you minimized what Tom Flacco accomplished last year in a prior post by saying he played at Towson .

He put up good numbers at a program who are dominant against their competition. We don’t know what he would have done here but we committed to McNulty and the pro style so he saw the writing and left.

If it was his brother I think it’s a different story. If Flacco was here under Mehringer again I think we have a different story and maybe Drew is still here coaching. It is what it is but you make a great point that some guys get passed over by 130 coaches and then go to the NFL.

He , Flacco, also put up good numbers against Wake Forest, a P5 Bowl team. I have no doubt he would have been an improvement over our not ready true freshman QB, and Gio as well. Plus I am sure neither them would have had the year that Flacco did if they were at Towson.

For the 4th season in a row, our QB situation will be a mess and that’s what ultimately will be Ash’s downfall.

Hobbs should strap them on,name Schiano as D Cord and essentially 'HC in waiting'.
Then again that would take out of box thinking and a bold move on Hobbs part.Maybe he would have to consult his and Ash agents first to get permission?

Yes, because the culture we want is one where the players have no idea who is charge. I swear, the things you type...

Agree to disagree. McNulty knows what he is doing. He rolled the dice and put the best QB out there to run his Offense. He wasn’t ready but he will be next year. Flacco could have stuck around and fought for PT like everyone else. He chose to drop a level and had a great year. Good on him.

Your other comments are all speculation which is fine but not factual. All I know is 130 programs passed on all of those guys and not just RU. That much is a fact. Everything else is BS opinions. Apples to oranges.

I do agree his current situation has been caused by changing OC’e and Offenses for 3 years running. That has killed us: now we are set with McNulty and he can coach running QB’s as long as they can make the throws (Marriotta).

Duquesne 31-10 over Towson. Watched highlights and game as very sow moving compared to what we watch.

That was the NEC’s second ever playoff win.

Schiano's ego is only surpassed by Urban's, which is why that relationship worked.

He could install all his systems at Temple and cement his legacy as a program builder all while making a boatload of money.

What exactly is the upside to working as Ash's DC? Maybe win 4 games and sweat out another coaching carousel?

Ash has got to pay him $1 Million, which is more than he'd get anywhere else. point is moot if he gets the Temple Job.

Bring back greg period!!!!!!!!!! Fire Ash now before in digs us in a hole we never get out of. Before Ash goes we will be in the Mac not the Big10. What a shame it would be to be thrown out. Man just does not get it plus hope for a QB transfer.

Roy Hobbs ego is bigger then anyone (schiano/Myer/Saban)as he refuses to dump AshError and bungles the management of other sports at RU.
