Comparing football to basketball is apples to oranges.

For basketball, answer these questions:

Is the talent level progressing yearly? Yes
Are we seeing player development? Yes
Is recruiting improving? Yes
Are facilities improving? Yes
Are we competitive in every game? Yes
Is our coaching staff high level? Resounding yes

I would strongly argue this season is year one of pikiells evaluation. Anyone suggesting the hot seat is approaching is out of touch.

Is the talent level progressing?

No way you can say YES here. Maybe or hopefully is the answer.

I am very happy with the coaching staff and I appreciate and respect how hard it is and will continue to be going forward. Especially when we don’t pay. Again I am very happy with the progress.

Our talent level on the roster is very low stacked up against major conference teams. I think that is OK and to be expected. Baker and Eugene are our stars, they are role players fighting for minutes at most major conference schools.

its not developed talent...wait until Baker's senior year....and see what Pike has recruited for 2020....alot of downplaying about recruiting but Pike is getting to the critical year of recruiting. Next year is his first year he will be judged on wins and losses, the team must be over 500 or he will start to erode some support. Baker's senior year almost has to be a NIT type season..yes we all want NCAA but the true sign will be what is coming in after Baker. We are going to know by year 5 whether we are still building upward or plateauing. Just at this point, we are still in the building stages, recruiting is solid (for Rutgers) but is it enough and does the talent get developed..well we have to wait two years for the answer

I think we are having two different discussions. I’m saying the talent level is progressing here in comparison to years past. Im saying our roster today has significantly more talent than when this staff took over. Im not saying it’s progressing at the level where it is in line with our big ten competition. With a few more recruiting cycles of our 18/19 caliber players however, we will be in line with the mid tier B1G teams.

2020 recruiting is not a big deal, despite what fans are making it out to be. It just needs to be solid and avoid any reaches into the 300s like most of the prior regimes ran into.

Can't disagree enough about 2020. We will have 3 or maybe 4 scholarships available for 2020, and on the heels of the first three or four years of slow but steady progress, 2020 is a HUGELY important recruiting year in paving the way for Pike to elevate the program to tournament status.

Freeman and Sanders were pretty talented

I’ve been saying 5 B1G wins all along. Still think we can do it. I think Maryland will be the first one on 1/5.

Could have really had 2 B1G wins already. Wisconsin should have at least been one if we could finish. We have their number. The team learned to win a bit in the Columbia game, if we play our best players at the correct times I can see multiple B1G wins.

For sure. And what about the second or third guy off the bench on those teams? From a depth perspective it’s not even close.

I know you from posting and you were one of the few that were here posting during the darkest days. The level of talent on the court that year when we got beat at home by St. Peter’s by double digits is not even comparable to what is on the roster now. You know that. We are however lacking that Corey type scorer that can go get you a bucket when you need it.

sorry it just is...because RU will not have the talent to compete in this league. RU's talent level is still behind the majority of the league and they are not slipping. If RU does not up its game its going to be in the 11-14 spot for quite some time. You just cannot sit here and say oh we will be fine. The 2020 class is vital because if he isnt landing a very good class....when do you think its coming

There should be a thread entitled “The Posters of Shame” and copy/paste poster names from this thread in the first post.

Biggest error in judgment I made was underestimating the volatility of the team due to the youth.

I was actually very high on the team entering the year and thought the FDU/Drexel games validated that. Then the offense swooned and I kind of bailed on my early optimism. Freely admit that I was wrong.

This is a completely different team minutes wise than the one from mid December. A whole different shift in lineup and roles
