He was DC of national championship team in P5.Wow. Where to begin? My favorite line - "Chris Ash wanted to be the Head Coach of the Scarlet Knights."
I want to be King of the World. Unfortunately, I don't qualify.
Never understood why those numbers are added.I would guess the other Camden and Newark count--we are close to than Pen State in numbers which I think has the most but they too have othe campuses
The reality of it is that Liberty may even be a pick-em game next year and even UMass is not automatic. Fuxing sad...
If Collins lands a P5 job, and he is actively looking from everything I read, would not surprise me to see Schiano land at Temple. They like their coaches that have Paterno and Penn State ties. All that nonsense that went on at Tennessee will likely not be a factor at Temple. Temple is a much better job than UMass, short of a P5 job it would probably appeal to Schiano. What if that happens and Schiano is their Head Coach?
In the NJ.com podcast, Sarge, Politi and Kratch thought Schiano coaching UMass might be a reasonable option for him.

When Ash came in the door and started recruiting, we'd been to a bowl game in 9 of the prior 11 seasons. The juniors and seniors he was recruiting weren't even in 1st grade when Rutgers was last a college football doormat, and we had compiled a 83-56 record from the time they entered Kindergarten to the time Ash and staff were sitting down in their kitchens to sell them on committing (2005-2015 seasons).
Rutgers had been a solid program for essentially their entire lives prior to Ash's arrival and was coming off a down year that was impacted by several player arrests.
Now? That's all been wiped away. Four straight losing seasons... we've gone 11-37 since the current HS recruits entered 8th grade, and there's no expectation that we'll suddenly have a winning record next year.
Michigan fired Rich Rod after 3 seasons and a 15-22 (6-18) record.
Kansas fired Charlie Weis after 3 seasons and a 6-22 (1-18) record.
Notre Dame fired Ty Willingham after 3 seasons and a 21-15 record.
It's not unprecedented to fire a coach after 3 seasons with a 7-29 (3-24) record. Question is if he'll be fired after 4 seasons and a 9-39 (3-33) record.
Please, don't confuse the Ash supporters with facts.
here is the problem...what is improvement...3-9? 4-8? 5-7?
its not clear cut and we likely will go through the same thing next November
and I disagree with you...95% of power 5 schools would have canned Ash at this point and ate the contract, schools are eating contracts all the time
its as if the Kansas and Buffalo beatdowns didnt exist. Had RU won them and finished 3-9 with the exact same results the rest of the year, I think people would have been okay with a 4 year for Ash to prove.
Ash lots most of the fans when he lost those two games, a few here are pointing to the last 4 games as some sort of true indication of the team, yet that is not how it works
The would be the equivalent of UCLA and UCSD grads donating to "Cal" in Berkeley.Never understood why those numbers are added.
Why should I (if I’m a Camden, Newark or graduate school alum) be expected to donate to the athletic program of another school? Never made sense.
Donating to school (the one you actually went to) specific things, I get. But not donating here.
At some point in this thread we will be told it’s not like that it’s more like _______ (insert school that fits the bill here). The would be the equivalent of UCLA and UCSD grads donating to "Cal" in Berkeley.
same guys who want us to fire everyone and swallow the cost like the Michigans of the world-refuse to understand the fact about how bad many of our fans are in supporting the school financially and it won't help us get even half way up the latter of these other schools by not renewing , not donating and being unable to recognize why we fail--hobb's letter actually tried to address that but the malcontents can't recognize the truth
Total numbers is on way to look at it but how about NFL players per D1a school. Bottom line is there is more than enough talent within a 3 hour drive of Rutgers to put together a consistent top 25 program. Are we really in a recruiting hotbed? Putting aside recruiting rankings, is the true measure of a player whether he performs up to and exceeds his ranking and makes it to the NFL? From 2017:
Looks like Florida, California, Texas and Georgia are super hotbeds, while South Carolina, Alabama, and Lousiana are hot.
New Jersey is up there but even behind Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Getting back to bowls is a nice goal but to publicly say that is your goal is foolish. If I am recruiting against Rutgers would you not point out hey their goal is to just make it to a bowl. Our goal is to win championships. As a fan or a recruit it makes me question their dedication to winning. They're 1-11. 7 wins in last 36 games. Getting to bowls every year sounds pretty good to most, including me. Do that for half a decade and then worry about the next set of goals.
Willingham signed a 6 year deal in 2001.It is not unprecedented to be fired after 3 years. However, it is unprecedented to buy out 5 years of a contract without donors paying. The issue is the 7 year deal, which inherently gave Ash a longer timeline - which is why he demanded it. So you are not wrong, but I think you are looking at it the wrong way. I do not disagree that 7 years was a mistake. But when we look at it now, that is the world we live in.
As to your cited examples:
Michigan is not comparable. They are massively profitable, and have no subsidy to support athletics. People who want to criticize the school for not stepping up and fixing this are ill-served to point at Michigan. Which institution supports athletics more? Michigan or Rutgers? The answer is Rutgers. Which alumni support more? Michigan by a massive landslide. As an aside, the school ponied up $2.5mm to buy out Rich Rod.
Kansas paid Weiss $5.63 million to leave. This is the best analogy you have.
ND - you must be joking. Not only do they have everything Michigan has above, but that was a different world. Ty Willingham was paid his base salary of $650k for the 2 years remaining on his contract. A grand total of $1.3mm buyout for the wealthiest athletic dept in the country.
All of the above deals were 5 year deals. Like it or not, with the 7 year contract, Ash got himself on a different timeline, and now we are feeling that pain.

But playing time on teams that play for championships can be very hard to get. I suppose you will come back that the best will want to compete with the best to play, But we are not in that stratosphere right now. We are competing with MAC and AAC teams, and perhaps recruits with 1-3 other P5 offers. We do get a few or more kids with a lot of P5 offers, but that is rare right now.Getting back to bowls is a nice goal but to publicly say that is your goal is foolish. Then we lost a lot of weeks this season! It would be much more effective to say that we're looking to go 1-0 every week.
Danny Hurley demanded 7 years and Rutgers fans universally laughed at him...twice
Fact is if Rutgers fans knew this was a 7 year contract at the beginning we would be apoplectic. .who gives that agiy who wasnt a head coach at any level
Then we lost a lot of weeks this season!
What if that happens and Schiano is their Head Coach?
In the NJ.com podcast, Sarge, Politi and Kratch thought Schiano coaching UMass might be a reasonable option for him.
...im still hoping for him here in 2020 after a full year of behind the scenes wooing
All you had to do was read it. The trigger clause is right there on page 4. It's been public since shortly after it was executed on 12/7/15.
Pathetic. Genuinely pathetic.
Yeah if it was easy for us to see then dig up the threads. I mean you are saying that this entire board most notably the ones who read the contract were fine with a guaranteed 7 year deal...okay
But the good news is that in any give week you can only fail to go 1-0 once.
Yeah im pathetic to want back the guy who built Rutgers football and would provide an instant jump start..yeah so pathetic...more personal attacks from you...been on full display here...BDS bro

It wasn't a 7 year deal. It was a 5 year deal with a year-for-year provision triggered by the sanctions. Again - this is a standard provision. Absolutely anyone who would have considered the job would have insisted on the very same language.
There are some specific things in the contract to perhaps find fault with, but this isn't one of them.
ATSWe should have been 5-7 this year building off of 4-8 last year. Can we expect 6-6 this year, Pat? Can we demand 6-6?
