There is one word in his statement that is most important here..

GRADUATED

Show the guy some respect... and in the future, maybe have a pre-pro-day thing to test the players who want to come back for pro day. If they don't meet expectations of players that should get a look.. then say no. But make it objective. If they are solid citizens and graduates.. come on now.. do the right thing.

This sounds like the stupid "no navy blue suits" thing.. i.e. ARBITRARY.

I know first hand from past players from the Burns era that Dick Anderson did the same thing during his run as head coach -Past players were just no longer welcomed - It took years (and ultimately Schiano policies) before some of those guys got back in the fold. This needs immediate attention from Hobbs/Ash.
Sorry about the old post but it is always valuable to learn from history - just another example of the epic mistake Hobbs made. Of course neither Hobbs nor Ash fixed this as they alienated all the ex-players. Proud of my post and it stands true - remember all the ex players surrounding the sidelines during games during the Schiano era? (now just crickets including my friend who is still pissed at this ***). Hobbs must go as well as Ash - just can't trust Hobbs to make a good choice.

In the Rutgers Facebook group a lot of former players are embarrassed about the state of the program and none of them are really speaking out in support of Ash.

Steve Beauharnais is a weird dude. Partied with a him a bunch of times, friend of a friend, and I’ll just sayin I’m not surprised by him thinking he’s misunderstood or wronged.

And what do Ash and Anderson have in common? Both recommended by opponents and hired by weak incompetent AD's . Learn from history!

You are coming across as weak and incompetent.
Before you make any proclamations, how about you give Pat Hobbs a chance to deal with the situation. Your constant ranting and raving is tiresome.
So you get personal - just a sign of the weakness of your position. But I will play along.

Here is my question - Do you trust Mr. Hobbs to make the next head coach choice. After all this is a guy who is running an athletic department from whom I just received in the mail my season ticket prep package with the "Beat Indiana" "Beat Buffallo" etc etc stickers. The guy is a lawyer with "No" college football experience at all and little administrative experience. But since you are so connected please tell me why I should trust him to make the right choice??

You don't have all the facts as usual, and you are just popping off, like an unhinged lunatic. Your screen name is fitting, because you sure do like to let it rip.

1. Do you really think Pat is licking the envelopes shut with the stickers?

2. True, he does not have college football experience. But he does have AD experience as the interim athletic director at Seton Hall from 2010-11.

3. He also had a very successful tenure as Dean of Seton Hall Law School for 15 years. During his tenure, he navigated the Law School through a really difficult financial situation when law school enrollments plummeted nationwide, starting in 2018.

So, to say he has no administrative experience makes you look really foolish in view of the facts. I am sure you are going to shoot back with, "what good is this in being an AD of a P5 University." He made hard decisions while interim AD at Seton Hall. He fired Bobby Gonzalez and the women's hoops coach. He fired Eddie Jordan soon after he took the reins as Rutgers AD.

I know Pat. He is not tone deaf. I have no inside information, and I would never share inside information here even if I had it.

Pat has a policy of not commenting on the status of head coaches until the end of the season. Instead of being a nonstop insult machine and crybaby, why not wait until the year is over to judge Hobbs on his actions?

Not ranting - just stating facts that you do not like to hear nor do they fit your narrative. It is Hobbs department and sending out material 6 weeks late is a very valuable indicator of how the Athletic Department is being run. It is his department. A year as an interim AD at a basketball school does not qualify you to run an athletic department at a B1G school. I think the results so far back up my position.

Cannot judge Hobbs as you have... but the very idea that we hired him instead of someone with FBS Football experience as AD was just foolish... especially following the hiring of Julie that was the result of last minute dictate by an insider who wanted a woman hired.. instead of someone with the profile that the well-paid executive search firm determined was best for us.

Then couple that with the new AD (with no football experience and limited AD experience.. who replaced an AD who never was THE AD and had no football experience) hiring a head coach with no head coaching experience... to replace a head coach who had no head coaching experience.

It is on Barchi. He allowed both of these things to happen. And while he does have bigger fish to fry.. he needs to find an assistant who can be on top of this stuff.

I had strong doubts about Hobbs when I witnessed him celebrating with Seton Hall when they won the Big East tournament. This was after Hobbs became AD at Rutgers. I similarly had strong doubts about Ash when he chose to remain at Ohio State for the Fiesta Bowl instead of hitting the ground running at Rutgers. Both of these clowns need to go.

They are all facts but they just don't support your opinion. Sad for you - there is nothing ranting about my past post except your personal attack. Nice technique - get beat in a argument, yell at your opponent and take your bat home.

Last post to you.
1. Hobbs made what appears to be great hire in Pikiell.
2. He fired loyal son Eddie Jordan to do #1.
3. The season is not over yet. I pointed out numerous times Hobbs does not comment on status of coaches mid season.
4. Why not see what he does after the season is over? Oh, I know why- you have already concluded in your feeble mind that he is not worthy of the job. Your little bitty feeling are hurt because you can't have your way right now. Guess what? ADs make bad hires. It is at best a 50/50 proposition. Pernetti hired Flood, who started this downward spiral.

Last chance- give it time, and just stop with the non-stop insult reel.

Have no idea what the decision will be at the end of the season. Will be very disappointed if there is not a change Will be very hard to accept. But I will wait patiently, like an adult.

Fail to see that problem.
He celebrated with the coach he hired while he was interim AD. There were not Rutgers basketball duties to attend to.

Dude, that’s weak. Glad you’re not in charge. College football is like war.
I forgot about that fact AP Knight. So we have an AD who celebrated on the court with an opponent and the head football coach he hired stay at his old school, also an RU opponent, to be a co-defensive coordinator in a meaningless bowl game during prime recruiting season. Very consistent.

Just to be sure, Hobbs is the AD right? And that AD position is about more than just Football and Men’s basketball right? I’m just not sure how being the AD and going to party with rival in-state schools is ever justifiable. Can he go meet those guys and congratulate them? Sure. Make a public appearance and party with them? I don’t think that makes any sense.

It's not going to help with recruiting to treat former players like trash. I know Ash wanted to start a new thing here but I actually think it was not smart to get rid of the keep chopping mantra. It was something that was unique to Rutgers that the kids like. It would be like Miami hiring a new coach and getting rid of the smoke. Or Notre Dame getting rid of play like a champion sign. Granted Keep Chopping wasn't anywhere near that level but we can't keep rebranding ourselves every 4 years. And we can't forget about the players who played here who were actually good.
He sure did start a new thing here, it's called embarrassment.

I have not read this thread so I’m posting blindly.
If you’re talking about ex players hanging around the program...I’ve attended several fundraisers where the McCourty’s, Leonard and Malast accompanied Ash to the function

@letitrip2 you do realize the lack of letterwinners on the sideline is mandated by the B1G and not Hobbs? For someone who said “that’s a fact” half a dozen times on this page, you sure did miss that one.

Did not know that and would like to see the policy. Does not change the original point of this post that the welcome sign that Schiano put up for ex-players has been greatly diminished. Just another boneheaded move by this staff. Reminds me of the original recruiting mantra “fence the garden”.

Ash's lack of success has empowered this troll. But, he is still a troll. A broken clock is still right twice a day. He is still a loser. He was right this one time, for all of the wrong reasons.

Troll. Don’t think so. Some of the regulars here just don’t like to admit they have been so wrong. And then you all follow the same pattern - when a post reminds you that you did not know as much about this program as you thought you get personal.

Are you seriously retarded? I just said it's the Big Ten's policy. How is that a bonehead move by the staff?

Nice response. The boneheaded move by this staff was not keeping the welcome mat open for ex-players - that is not limited to side lines passes.

I disagree with the season isn’t over. It’s over. Penn St. and Michigan will run the score way up to humiliate RU in front of recruits. The only hope for years to come is to fire this Ash guy tomorrow.

This program might never recover in our lifetimes if something isn’t done right away. Season ticket sales will collapse. This isn’t hyperbole. It’s reality. Look at the stadium last week. Stands are almost empty. Blown out by the next worse team in the whole league.

Appoint an interim coach from the existing staff. Hobbs reaches out to Schiano’s agent. Offer him whatever he wants within reason. If he doesn’t do that he should be fired.

If Schiano won’t listen hire a real football coach from an FCS team. A proven winner and recruiter.
