This is stupid.

It's over the top stupid.

Obviously all schools that participate in Pro Day activities have to set participation limits. Failure to do so would turn the entire event into a complete goat rodeo.

So, inevitably, someone will fall outside of those participation limits.

When they do, it's not generally expected that they will respond in the manner of a three year-old.

And they are only one year out of school. I don't see them being invited and Steve not being invited, as necessarily inconsistent.

My post was about whether Ash is turning his back on former players.
He's not. Stop pushing that. Why do people think Ash is turning his back on former players

call me shocked that posters said there was an NFL rule!
while Steve B did throw a over the top waambulance over this..it would have been nice for Ash and Hobbs to say ex players are allways welcome back to the program.

The NFL and NCAA do not have policies on Pro Day eligibility

From what Steve said they basically told him to beat it. Everyone was making up NFL rules with no evidence whatsoever. Telling a former player to kick rocks is not the answer. I'm sure if Ash or someone sat him down and explained the rule to him, it wouldn't have been a big deal. I'm almost 100% positive, Schiano or Flood would've just let him participate.

You seem mad, chuck.
Not sure if anyone laid down that there were indeed NFL rules. Think a lot of folks (at least me) were exploring if there were rules to be followed. A Google search for such "rules" yielded basically nothing. Also think many folks were trying to figure out why the parties did not just work it out.

So Ash is sending hired mobs after players who played under Schiano and Flood? And they're to be physically threatened as to what will happen to them if they set foot in the stadium ever again? Dayum!

Not saying this is the case for SB, but where do you draw the line on who can and who cannot participate ? As a practical matter scouts' time is limited at these days, and I can't believe RU would garner plaudits from the NFL for allowing open tryouts to former RU players without some limitation.

Only because I can say that the current Rutgers staff - coaches and Gilkinsin have always been very responsive to me through email and phone, my guess is that Steve just didn't want to accept the answer he got.

So the UCONN kid makes the cutoff but not SB. Ok

I was disagreeing with the view that he was turning his back on former players by pointing out the fact that he had former players attending.

Read SB's post.

I read it. And that is the ONLY mention of a UConn player at Pro Day. There isn't one on the list of attendees and the NJ.com article doesn't identify him.

Hmm... What might that tell us?

Because they're not going to "welcome all ex players". That's insane.

The scouts don't show up at a school's Pro Day so they can watch every busted up NFL wannabe. There have to be limits on attendance. Beauharnais is 2 months shy of being 27 years old and wasn't successful when he was in game shape. He's not making a team now. This entire conversation is completely stupid.

Oh I see we're just automatically supposed to believe what a pissed-off person tweets? I highly doubt it was as bad as Steve made it out to be so let's be real. That being said let's hope he doesn't pull a douche move and try to sue the school for his likeness AFTER this has been rectified by the university. Then let's hope he and Ash can form a bond in some way or another (maybe even get him into a position in the program, of some sort, if his playing days are over....or not) and maybe - by some minor miracle - he'll donate to the program! That would work out well for all involved.

I would take his **** down until he confirms he wont sue. Use of the facilities based on a a waiver of the right to sue.

"I don't want to have a regret," said Beauharnais, who has been working with his longtime trainer since November. "I'm doing well right now. But I don't want to say 'could've, would've, should've.' I just want to give it a shot and give myself a fair chance. What's important is the current players coming out in the draft, and I want them to get a fair chance as well.':boom:

In your rush to post the link, you may have missed about 40 posts above where this has already been shared in this thread about 5 hours ago with subsequent posts weighing in on said article.

Well the article basically disproves everything all of the posters were saying about an NFL or NCAA rule.
No, actually, it doesn't. It makes a claim, same as everyone on this board did, which is just as unsubstantiated. The only link they provide is one to nj.com/sports/nfl.

I trust Nj.com more than this board.

This was just a misunderstanding, and it was resolved already and people are still barking at each other...

reminds me of this: https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/t...ent-ever-summed-up-in-one-quick-video.119710/
Some folks here have deep-seated anger issues that revolve around the state of the program. Some people here have deep seated hatred for Rutgers and will always take the side against Rutgers. Some here don't like Coach Ash and still wish for Schiano or Flood to be in charge. Some just like to argue and prove they are "right."

This thread will go on for another two pages.

to say that "The NFL and NCAA do not have policies on Pro Day eligibility" may be in some ways sort of correct - but not entirely
It is a bit more complex & a matter of interpretation -

For one - there are various "rules " that the NFL has regarding who is eligible - on the basis of "old enough / in possession of enough experience" to join the NFL - purely for example - an improbable hypothetical - if Alabama QB Jalen Hurts (now just finishing his freshman year ) - decided "I want to play pro - now - don't want to wait" well he would not be able to participate because he is not yet qualified by the NFL rules. Technically the NFL would not forbid him to take the field - the college would - but i- the NFL scouts might simply walk out if he did - they would chose to be no part of this.

The College Pro Days are a bit fuzzy when you try to look at exactly whose standards and whose guidelines and whose rules end up controlling what happens
The Colleges are technically the "Host" - and the NFL scouts are visitors - guests so in a lot of ways - the college can frame out the day - but
Think of it like a Host inviting a bunch of very important influential guests
The host can select the menu - select the entertainment - and many other things
But the smart host is going to bend over backwards to accommodate the desires of the guests
- so some things will be done out of consideration for portions of NFL 'rules' that may apply to the combine - and other things may be done out of respect for expressed desires on the part of the NFL scouts.

Seriously - the College Pro-Days while not ruled with an iron fist by the NFL - are most certainly constructed to accommodate the desires of the NFL Scouts to think otherwise is kind of preposterous.

Really if Ash is smart he is going to manage this event to put the best face forward to NFL scouts for the program generally. If informally the scouts tell him "We don't need to see XXXXX" or "We'd like more YYYYY" he should say "Got it, Thanks."
