IMO Pacheco starts on special teams running back punts and kick offs. I think his path will be similar to Janarion. Start as a returner and go from there. Just my gut, no other reason for thinking it.

Was kinda hoping Trey Sneed would step up and be the 3rd RB .
He had fantastic offers coming out of Florida : UNC, Louisville, Utah, Georgia Tech, UCF, Duke, Navy, Wake Forest, etc.
Let’s see.

Yeah Sneed did have a very nice offer list. Hopefully he will make an impact this year because depth at RB is always a good thing.

Did Sneed play any DB in high school? I remember Snorweah did and there was talk early on that he could be moved to defense if needed with his speed.

The “know-it-all’s” generally out themselves by getting offended by the post and feeling the need to respond directly to the post in which they are inferred...I only use that term because there are a select few on the board who can’t stand a minority opinion without making the poster feel like a retard (hate using that word)
Perhaps the better move is to then wait for it to happen and call them out, by name and quote, at that time instead of generalizing.

Yeah, Hanz and Franz are older.
Sitkowski has an NFL-ready frame.

Now, lets hope he puts it all together.

He's a prototype. He's already built like an NFL QB. Certainly passes the eyeball test.

The “line of thinking” is based on personal experience, when you have someone who has a minority opinion you typically get the response like the one quoted below \/ \/ as opposed to the more debating response quoted above
O, boo hoo hoo. The Rutgers guy's are beating me up. Go cry to McAndrew or Lubrano about it. You're just pissed because they don't have any banning privileges over here to protect you. Come up with dumb stuff, you get beat up, everyone does. Be a psu fan and disguise yourself as an RU fan with just an alternative view point(clever by the way), you get beat up. Now go find your safe space on the psu dysfunctional board.

Ray's vision and patience is what made him so good. That OL didn't hurt either.
Yeah, the OL doesn’t get mentioned a lot when talking about Ray’s time here. Two very good lines in 2005 and 2006. And still really solid in 2007.

Yes and let’s hope our fans treat him better than they did Teel, Savage and Nova not to mention others who were less successful.
Agreed. Let’s all stop being a holes to our QBs. That includes the likes Gio . Let’s get behind these great kids . Our job is to root for them to do well and win. Let the coaches make decisions and coach the players.

Here, Hear!

I just LOVED seeing the big uglies out in front of Ray Rice... I hav eno idea why we later moved to an exclusive zone-blocking scheme where everything had to look like a pass.. (meaning the OL stood up and turned guys on every play) but it killed us... and probably hurt OL recruiting.. the big guys want to fire out and hit people.. they want to get to the second level and hit littler guys too!

That's how Ray Rice broke some big ones.. when he got the 2nd level.. some big OL guy was there worrying defenders.. getting them back on their heels.

He isn’t starting over Hillman and Blacksheer...

Hillman is a nice experienced back with some power but he’s not a home run back. Also lost his starting job at BC. Blackshear is a home run rb who is on the small side. Pacheco is a combo of both. I think he gets a ton of carries by mid season.

You got to be a complete bachagaloop to think that this kid is getting moved to defense this season. There are some who think he may be the next great running back here on the banks - he definitely has the tools - and people here already talking about moving him to defense? SMDH

BTW - it doesn’t take a “know-it-all” to figure this out, just somebody who pays attention, that’s all!

I posted here in may/june that I ran into a dude I know who coached high school football in south jersey

He told me RU got a special player in Pacheco and he was as sincere as can be

We have had players move back and forth from Offense to Defense to help fill position voids and they have shown to be true team players . If Safety depth becomes an issue it’s not out of the question.

Hicks and Harris were different situations. They weren't living up to their billing at the original positions as far as this staff was concerned.

Pacheco is in a much different category. Plus if someone was really needed you'd look at Snorweah or one of the WRs down on the depth chart to move.

True Frosh does not have a “billing” to live up to. With 2 proven FBS RBs in front of him he probably won’t see much playing time in Year One. We might need help at Safety early on.

Trying to think of a WR who was playing well but moved to the Secondary and did real well. Was about 8 or 9 years ago.

Was not 8 or 9 years ago, but Jawuan Harris moved to DB after playing WR and did well.

I guess we disagree here on Pacheo. He'll play a more prominent role as the season wears on. I believe Ash has already said this in interviews. Ball security is one thing holding him back but that's to be expected with a true freshman.

Additionally, what makes anyone certain that Hilliman is going to find his old form? Everyone's writing him in as a sure thing but he's not. I really doubt he's going to be as productive as Gus Edwards.

While I'm high on Blackshear he was a true freshman himself last year. So he needs to show that he can carry the load. I think he'll put to rest the concerns about his size and the combination of Pacheo & him will be dangerous.

Speaking of that how is the O line going to be this year. Because last year they didn’t look that great.

And the D line was ok but didn’t the best players there graduate?

+1. I don’t think people realize how much of a talent Gus Edwards was last season. Hope I’m wrong but I don’t see the same production coming out of Hillman.

If nothing else, the pics seem to show that Pacheco has the physique to block, which will make or break him in terms of PT this year. If he can't (or won't) block, you don't want to tip off the defense that's it's a run. The other 2 plus Sneed are ahead of him on that, just on experience alone. Considering Sneed was one of the first players to get 'knighted' in Ash's first camp, it would be surprising that he'd be passed by so early. If anything, Sneed's prominence in the offense will determine whether Pacheco moves to DB, stays at RB, or redshirts.

The staff ONLY talks about him as a RB. It would take an emergency to move this kid. We DID move Sanu from safety to WR but that was early on in summer camp his freshman year I believe.

We also have a couple of fans still thinking we are gonna run a high tempo spread Offense....

I’ll eat my hat if either of those things happen this year

So why do you disparage people who suggest that Pacheco might shift to Safety initially ?
There have plenty of players who contributed while making the switch from O to D.
Mason Robinson and Peele to DB [ before he royally screwed up his career with bad decision making]

Because in this case it's totally misguided since there is no need at safety with Mickens enrolled and Snorweah who played a lot of DB in HS in addition to RB.

Let's not forget the staff has said he's going to play a role this year at RB so they have no intent to flip him unless we've gone through 8 bodies.

Agree with this. Hilliman is all in on Rutgers which is great to see but he was giving BC below-average production last year and then A.J. Dillon came in (behind the same offensive line) and was terrific. Now, Dillon is one of the more underrated RBs in the country and a future NFLer if he stays healthy, but the difference was stark. I'm hoping Blackshear and Pacheco are prominently featured and we're not depending on Hilliman for 15-20 carries a game.

Then again I'm still scarred from Ash (or Mehringer, whatever) starting Goodwin over Martin and Hicks...

It was 8 years ago.
I was referring to Ruhann Peele who moved from WR to CB.
Played well but threw it all away with criminal activity. Last I read he was trying to comeback at Division 2 Football after straightening himself out.
