LOL GTFO!!!!!:joy::joy::joy::joy::joy: Absolute joke status right now. One guy in his 3rd year as HC at PSU, 7/8th year as a HC overall, the other guy in his 1st year as HC at a rebuilding program with 1/3rd the budget...oooohhh we were competitive with 3-9 Maryland who ran for 600 yards on us oooooooohh....

Joe P.

Ash is getting paid $2M to make good hires. He didn't need PSUs budget to make a good OC hire. No one forced him to hire DM. He did that on his own.

First time HC and DM was highly recommended by guys he was very close to. He also had to make hires before he could evaluate the talent on the team.
I have seen some decent and experienced HC make some horrible hires. What you don’t give Ash credit for, is learning from his mistakes.

In the meantime as Your boy Flood ran the program into the ground you kept talking championships but for some reason you are all over The guy who is cleaning up the mess. And slowly but surely he is.

i've previously given him credit for hiring Coach Kill, which I thought was a really solid hire. Now the offense wasn't as productive as I'd hoped, but Coach Kill played an outsized role in why we won 4 games last year.

I'm saying the lack of vision is making it more difficult for Chris Ash to recruit.

Now contrast Ash's style with PJ Fleck of 5-7 Minnesota. they lost to maryland, lost to purdue, got smoked by northwestern, wisconsin, and michigan, yet PJ Fleck is talking about Championships and outrecruited us for the 2018 class. he doesn't have PSU's tradition, fanbase, or history of success, but what he does have is a compelling message, which makes me want to play for him. Just LOVE his enthusiasm.

Selling Rutgers to NJ recruits is a very tough job, that is not changing. It is sometimes difficult for Rutgers fans to understand given how much we love this university, but that is simply not the case for those outside the Rutgers family. Ash is not going anywhere for at least the next three years, you have got to give some slack, he's learning as he is going and the administration knew this would be the case when they hired him. 3 or 4 wins next year would be a real step in the right direction and help with recruiting, but even if we take a step back a bit, the fan base needs to be patient.

I'm quite sure Ash has a vision.

Every HC has one.

The more relevant question (imo) is can Ash SELL his vision.

And I mean sell it to the caliber of kids that will ultimately make Rutgers a successful program.

That's up in the air at the moment.

I agree that he has a vision, but he's chosen not to share it either because:

1) he won't be around to see it through, as he hopes to be at another opportunity once the turnaround is complete and Rutgers is at least competitive
2) he's afraid of being criticized if things go down south
3) he's managing expectations, and doesn't want expectations to outstrip reality.

As @RUskoolie as stated, he's a midwest grinder not a salesman. He's honest and direct, and for that i give him credit. Thing is, you've got to be able to bring in talent, otherwise it will be difficult to compete. To get the four stars, we need to be able to articulate and sell the dream. IMO, ideally we should be able to recruit at least 2-3 4 stars each class. That i think is reasonable.

Minnesota had a GREAT recruiting class. Maybe one of their best. Question though, not to knock them or anything but wasn't there some type of story behind the two kids that were 4 star from IMG. Usually a 4 star from IMG would have 20+ offers. If they both had legit 20+ offers, then I give Fleck the highest of grades in recruiting because that would mean at least 4-5 of those offers would have been with elites and most in some sunny climate.
The thing I would watch for to really judge Fleck though is how recruiting shapes up for him this year. Usually, most classes are formed on the previous year. Minn had 9 wins and we had 2...I need to see if his chops keep getting classes like that off a losing season.

Holy crap with the revisionist history. No comparison to what gs started with and as all know, I couldn't stand the guy. also, be had Miami, vt, sarah, and bc which were always ranked and playing in bowls.
He was never ranked when two of the above were still in the BE.

And moves didn’t start to happen until a few outside things happened....schools leaving and coaches getting fired.

Those two don’t happen and there is no history to revise or revisit.

Anyone who expected that there would be no learning curve for a 1st time head coach was kidding themselves. He made a bad hire and corrected it.

So he is getting paid $0 for everything else he is responsible for? He is getting paid to run a football program. Making good hires is one aspect.

Tough to build something of substance when your recruiting is ranked in the bottom half of the conference. After recruiting a solid 2017 class, the 2018 class was a step back.

Recruiting is another important aspect, and it didn't go very well for us, for the class of 2018. He did do well with player development, player discipline, and S&C.

Seeing as rutgersal and myhatinthering are pretty much wrong on everything, their negativity with ash has me more confident than ever that we are heading in the right direction.

If one of the QBs steps up and performs well, then we'll be headed in the right direction.

However, its Hard for me to see that when i look at our recruiting.

- Our 2016 Class had a rivals ranking of #78
- Our 2017 Class had a rivals ranking of #43
- Our 2018 Class had a rivals ranking of #57

With Floods classes, I felt reasonably confident that they were underrated due to the number of florida recruits, many of whom are often overlooked during ratings time. Grant is an example of someone much better than his ranking.

I think we see a significant uptick this year. We both know that recruiting can either be reflective of an event such as hiring a new HC...maybe why 2017 had an uptick. Then it usually reflect the year you had on the field 2 years earlier. So, 2018 kids were cutting their teeth on a 2 win Rutgers team and then saw a bit of an uptick in 2017. The 2019 class cut their teeth on a 4 win team that had 3 B1G wins. And then let's hope we start strong this year. Based on that, this year should see a much better class.
If we start strong, get to 6 wins and a bowl game and Ash does not improve above the 2017 class, then I would say we have a problem. But as of now, I am not judging him until I see this next class.

Recruiting is largely predicated on the team performance and perception of competency in the program's player development record. He didn't inherit a talented roster nor a very good culture and he has no record as a HC developing players. All works against him. It takes time.

I haven't heard anything from him that constitutes a vision. Look at previous links i've provided for James Franklin and PJ Fleck for examples.
When you state we need a vision like "landing a man on the moon" it shows you don't understand the concept of vision. In Kennedy's speech, he refers to landing a man on the moon as a goal. Additionally, the project would have been a failure if we landed someone on the moon but did not return them to earth safely (the last goal stated). The vision was for American's to live up to and return to their pioneering heritage in conquering new frontiers.

Al, please give it up and a rest. You are no help in anything you rant about....recruiting ratings aren't always as many may perceive them. Also with regards to Fleck and Minnesota, I guess you conveniently forgot that Minnesota recently completed construction of a new multi million $$ state of the art football facility which I am sure helps recruiting and player development.

I hesitate but will be firm in saying what many may be or are thinking. Please once again stop the ******** and outrageous posts whether they are attempts at being positive or negative....they just don't wash. Maybe I am being to outspoken here and perhaps a survey might be better. If I have offended any other poster I apologize but someone has to step up to the plate. 'Nuff said.

Hahaha, alright. The joke's on us. Chris Ash's recruiting isn't much different from Kyle Floods. Even if you throw out the 2012 and 2016 Classes, which I'm not sure you can do, Ash's class comes out to a ranking of 50 and Floods class comes out to a ranking of 52.

Kyle Floods Rivals recruiting class ranking

2013 45
2014 57
2015 53

Landing someone the moon was a vision.

http://www.clintburdett.com/process/11_documents/documents_01_3_jfk_vision.htm#.WqNpq5NuYdV

This link explains it rather eloquently.

Vision

The vision is the long-range objective. In this example, Starbucks' mission statement could also be their vision, but reading further in the SEC-10K, Part 1, Item 1, I find their vision:

To establish Starbucks as the most recognized and respected brand in the world.

“I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal,
before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon
and returning him safely to the earth.”

JFK, Man on the Moon Speech
Joint Session of Congress May 25, 1961

All seven key components for a vision are there: who (the nation), what (land on the moon), how (land a man on the moon), the promise (return him safely), geographic focus (The USA in particular, but the message was to the world), the goal (land a man on the moon and return him safely), and when (by the end of the decade.)

I minored in communication at Rutgers, and the man on the moon was the key example they used to explain what a vision is, in one of the classes.

Since you can't respond with facts, so you respond with nonsense. That's all you can do, because any facts regarding the ash era aren't that great. Our recruiting is not competitive and thats a fact. ranked 12 out of 14 Big Ten teams is a fact.

maybe you conveniently forgot that we have a new outdoor facility that serves us well, too. Nevertheless, facilities explains some of the difference, but you're overlooking the obvious in that PJ Fleck is a much better recruiter than Chris Ash, though Ash may be a better coach, though the jury is out.

Tired of the BS excuses like yours. we're being asked to pay serious money for a crappy product, and i'm sick of it. I want results.

Is this the same guy who said every year that Rutgers will always be at worse 11-1? USC was the Rutgers of the West? And all that other yada yada yada? Hmmm, interesting turn.

though we did not realize our potential, it was there. with tres moses, grant, josh hicks, devin mccourty, tiquan underwood, mike teel, ray rice, gary nova, leonte carroo, mohamed sanu, tim brown, kenny britt, jawan jamison, and many others, we had a plethora of playmakers.

Since Chris Laviano became our QB, you haven't heard me say anything about USC, because we lacked playmakers and a good QB.

Who are going to be today's playmakers? Its year 3 and I don't know. Thats the biggest concern. If we were recruiting well, there would be no doubt, as to who the playmakers are. When we stopped recruiting Florida, it hurt us here, imo.

Chris Ash was supposed to upgrade our recruiting, and he hasn't done that. Dacoven Bailey showed flashes, and had potential, but sadly, he's gone. So we're left with a list of unknowns with potential. That's not the ideal place to be at this juncture.
