do see while this is sticking in globs, by eyeballing the pavenet, I would suspect there is also some slight melting going on with these flakes so filled with water

The "official" measurements are when the storm is over, right? I think we covered this in another thread. It's not the sum of snowfall per hour. You have to take into account melting?

No, official measurements are typically taken every 6 hours on the snowboard, while it's snowing, but if it stops snowing before the next measurement, one is supposed to take a measurement then, in order to try to capture the maximum snowfall depth for the storm. It is not ok to measure every hour, wiping the board between measurements, as that gives an artificially high number (less compaction). New Brunswick will be well over 4.2" in less than 2 hours from now. I'm at 2" in 1 hour and it's ripping and will continue to do so.

And so much for that Kuchera ratio - I don't even have to melt it down to tell you it's at least close to 10:1 (thought it would be), as it simply doesn't look that dense, plus hard to imagine getting a lot more than 2" per hour (if the ratio were 7:1, I'd have 3" at 10:1 - maybe it's that high, but I don't think so) , which we gave gotten in the first hour.

2" on the ground now since the noon start (and we had 3/4" on the ground around 8 am, which melted, but that counts) and 33F now.

not sure you can claim victory on that yet....heavy snow for last hour..I have not quite an inch...snow seems to be compacted big time as it sits at least on the pavement

Went to rain for a little bit and we're back to heavy freezing rain/hail again. 50-60% of the grass has a good coating now. Wind is moderate with some gusting.
