It has been years since I’ve talked Sopranos.
Give us your version of what you think took place in that diner in the final episode.

Did Tony get whacked?

I like to think the onion rings triggered intestinal inflammation and a massive gallbladder attack. The ensuing commotion certainly waylaid anyone intent on a nefarious act.

However, while being rushed to Hackensack UMC, the ambulance was T-boned by a Shop Rite Truck full of London Broil - killing all aboard and delaying that week's $1.99 per lb special..........

My impression after watching the last episode was that Chase left it open whether Tony got whacked in that scene.

If the series was to be restarted some time later the open ending could have justified bringing Tony back for another series of future episodes/seasons.

Unfortunately Gandolfini met with his untimely death in Italy in 2013. IMO there can never be another Tony Soprano after Gandolfini. May he RIP.

Best way to end a series ever. We are STILL talking about it after all these years.

Wasn't one of our posters a long time friend of James Gandolfini? Anyone remember if he ever gave an (inside) opinion.

Holsten’s diner in Bloomfield is where the final scene took place.
He would have been transported to Clara Maass medical center

There is no question that he was killed.

If you look at the final scene in the diner, it is constantly shifting back and forth between Tony's point of view (first person) and the scene in general (third person). The series ends on Tony's point of view by going black. The "going to black" moment is extended, I believe, to make it clear that Tony is dead. He's killed by the man coming out of the bathroom, who had been looking over at him.

Read sepinwall. Ask chase. I think it’s been pretty much asked and answered. It is amazing that most of us thought our cable went out. We’re still talking about it almost 15 years later

There was a good article on this a while back. The sequence of the shots indicates he got wacked. The shots follow a pattern and with a certain shot always being from Tony's perspective. The next shot should be from Tony's perspective. But instead we get black and silence....

Exactly, from http://uproxx.com/sepinwall/david-chase-finally-answers-the-is-tony-soprano-dead-question-sort-of/

As David Chase has said numerous times on the record, “Whether Tony Soprano is alive or dead is not the point.” To continue to search for this answer is fruitless. The final scene of THE SOPRANOS raises a spiritual question that has no right or wrong answer.

Wasn't a good friend but I played flag football against him at RU. His friends called him Buck. A teammate of mine roomed with him one year. I'll see if he has any inside info, but not likely.

I thought a feature movie was coming, regardless of what Tony’s outcome was.

No character on that show was in line to replace Tony, Christopher would have been logical, but his drug and emotional problems featured in the last year would have discounted him IMO.

What's even more amazing is how they make Holsteins appear bigger than it is that place is tiny...even crazier they were there for 2 days filming that 30 second sequence
Think they are still running soprano bus tours there as well.. I don't think he got whacked think they were setting up for a major money maker down the line

Zap, how does someone with SoCal in their name have better local info than you?? And isn't Hackensack UMC Mountainside your local hospital?

Clara Maass is ten minutes past UMC from Holsten's.

It was a botched hit and he hired Jim Rockford to find out who put the hit on him.

Then Rocky gets kidnapped and Angel goes undercover as a pimp to find out where Rocky is being held.

Carl Kolchak of the INS hears about it and realized it's a gang of vampires holding Rocky and Pauly and what's left of the crew kills the vamps.

Unfortunately Joey Bacala sat on Kolchak's camera and destroyed all the evidence that this happened.

Is Holstein’s the one that had its own billboard down the road with the 3-D cows on it?

Or am I thinking of a different place?

My kids were born at Mountainside, it’s five minutes from where I live.
I don’t know anything about it being called Hackensack General.
I thought Clara Maass might have been closer from Holsten’s

Definitely the guy in the Member's Only jacket after he came out of the bathroom. I suspect this is a Godfather nod to the scene where Michael Corleone went into the bathroom to retrieve the gun to shoot Sollozzo and McClusky in the Italian restaurant.

Tony got whacked by the guy in the Members Only jacket coming out of the bathroom (to Tony's right).....I think it was in the Sepinwall article that it was discussed that there was a debate regarding after going to black if there should be credits.....I think David Chase wanted to just go to black for several minutes but was then convinced to put up the credits (of course with no music).

Stable traumas go to the nearest trauma center. Trauma codes go to the nearest hospital. GSW to the head would be the latter.
