haha that's kinda rough. He just had a big event he hosted in hoboken a couple nights ago.

I used to date a girl who's friend was seeing Henrique and we all went out a few times. really good dude and typical hockey player in that he's just a normal *** dude.

I was fortunate to meet several hockey players, mostly Devs (during the 90's and 00's) but also Marty McSorley and Wendell Clark. Have to say out of the pro athletes hockey pros are the most down to earth.

Was at the Rock for Henrique's goal in the 2nd OT against the Rangers to put Devs in the Finals in '12. Hate to see him go but the Devs have been blowing too many leads in the third and need help on the blue line. Looks like a good trade for both teams.

He's been living off that 2nd OT goal since that point (and rightly so as a huge Devil fan) but that moment of lore has inflated his value since. He's a great guy and Devil but what we got for him was very worth it. Shero has been a mastermind in the trade market.

It is sad to see him go, but in order to get a good player you have to give up a good player. The Devils needed a good defensemen badly and the Ducks needed a good forward with their injuries. Good trade for both teams

Have to agree with this. Adam was a bit more expendable to the Devils now with Bratt and even Hischier and some of the younger forward prospects they have (Quenneville, Bastian, and Mcleod). They don't have nearly the depth on defense, even with the excellent addition of Butcher.

If Vatanen plays decently well, the Devils should have enough to get to the playoffs this year, and be looking at improving in coming seasons.

I'm excited to see what Vatanen can do here. Just to clarify though, Henrique's winner against the Rangers wasn't in double OT, it was 1:03 into overtime. His double OT goal was in Game 7 against the Panthers in the first round that year. Seeing the Devils advance to the Stanley Cup Finals will always be one of my top sports memories that I've seen in person, up there with the 2006 Louisville game and Game 4 of the 2001 World Series, but a GM can't put past memories at a higher priority than what the current team needs. If Henrique didn't score that goal against the Rangers, almost nobody would be this upset over this deal.

I love Rico, and am really sorry to see him go. That said, with the depth of this team at forward and the lack thereof on the blue line, it just makes too much sense not to do this deal.

Vatanen is the power play QB we needed. Not quite the same Corsi/Fenwick percentages as Shattenkirk, but still very good, and he's better defensively as well.

Wow.

Traded to Anaheim for top defenseman Sami Vetanen.

Devils need defense desperately, but sucks to see Rico go. He was a great Devil.
Interesting trade, looking forward to the start of the NHL season after the Super Bowl!

Just heard about, I'm shocked.
He was the leader on the team.

Who's this defenseman they got, Hope he's good.
The leader on the Devils has been Andy Greene for the last few years without a doubt.

Vatanen is a former 4th overall pick and is a top 4 defensemen on any NHL team. The Devils have forward depth and had a big hole on the blue line. Very good deal for both teams.

We've seen flashes of what Blandisi can do at the NHL level, but I think Quenneville will be a better NHL player.

You are absolutely correct regarding the OT goal; thanks for the correction. Next to the two Cup clinching games at home, that win over the hated Rangers to put the Devs back into the finals was one of my best memories as a season ticket holder.

He was a 4th round pick not 4th overall, big difference.

Greene is too passive and low energy to be the team leader.
He may have the C but Henrique was the leader in that locker room.

In pregame skate he also ran things with the puck distribution for shooting practice

Still a good defensemen which is sorely needed and that cannot be denied.

Let's face it - even though Henrique scored that goal against the Rangers, he has not been as good as we would've liked (maybe that has to do with the lack of scoring talent around him before Hall was on the team). I think if he was the true leader, the Devils would've named him captain at the time they named Greene. Greene is a solid defensemen who does a lot of the little things well that may go unnoticed, so I would not discount the value he brings to the team.

Draft position can be completely meaningless. Let's look at Jesper Bratt, a 6th round pick...

He's not a top line player.
But a damn good forward who had scored 50 goals the past two seasons in a team that couldn't score in a Bangkok brothel!!!
He played on the top line/top 6 for the Devils...so to my point he was a top line player. It's not always about goals, he topped out in points his rookie year when he had Kovalchuk to play with.

How do you know Henrique was the leader in the locker room? Is that based on anything or just your feelings?

Literally anyone on the team can pass the pucks to the other guys during warmups (it's warmups, not shooting practice. Its purpose is to get your legs moving and warm up the goalies). That has absolutely nothing to do with being a leader. I'm pretty sure I remember Erik Rasmussen doing that, and nobody felt like we lost a leader when his days as a Devil were finished.

Bad odd move.

Great move. Have to give to get.

They also sent their best minor league player out too??

Who cares? Kid didn't have a future with the Devils.

I don't know, he scored 30 goals two seasons ago.
It's not easy in today's NHL.

And he'll never score 30 again. Guy was too streaky.

Get outta town, Who better than him in Bighampton?

Again, who cares? It's a development league and team.

When is Paul Mary due back, February?

Are... are you trying to be funny? Palms is one of the toughest dudes on the team.

And if he's not a top-line player, the Devils got a damn good piece back for him that is under team control until 2020.

Even if Henrique is a top line player (which for most teams I think top 6 is probably more accurate), the Devils will have done well in this trade is Vatanen performs in NJ. If he does, you do this trade all day -- the Devils have a lot more in the forward pipeline than in the defensive one.

Not being funny, I don't know the prognosis. Looked it up, maybe after Christmas it looks like.

In order for this trade to be a success, Vatanen has to be better then he has over the last year plus.

Injuries have apparently played into his lesser play, but if that's the case then he needs to show he can get and stay healthy.

I don't see it as a slam dunk, but we were pretty stocked at fwd, while pretty shaky on D.
