This trade is an A+. They have been trying to trade Henrique for a top for defenseman for quite some time. They just got that and for the Devils he may be top pairing especially with the decline of Greene. Liked Rico but he is being passed by by younger guys and as others have mentioned we are weak on D.

And missing Blandisi is laughable. He is a dime a dozen 3rd or 4th liner who is capable of around 18 points ceiling. Seems more like a career AHLer or depth call up for an injury.

Sad to see Henrique go, but Vatanen is as solid a player you’ll get in return for him. Gotta love Shero. He’s gotten Hall, Palmieri, Vatanen and Johanssen for Henrique, Larsson, Blandisi, and a pair of 2nd and 3rd rounders.

This move tells me that management believes in this team by addressing a need for the now.

In order for this trade to be a success, Vatanen has to be better then he has over the last year plus.

Injuries have apparently played into his lesser play, but if that's the case then he needs to show he can get and stay healthy.

I don't see it as a slam dunk, but we were pretty stocked at fwd, while pretty shaky on D.

I think that Shero is banking on the Devils' system being a better fit for Vatanen than Anaheim's system. Remember, the Ducks got a new coach in June 2016 (Carlyle). Vatanen did a heck of a lot better before Carlyle than since he took over. That's the bet Shero is making -- if he's right then this is a great trade for NJ. If he's wrong than not a good move.

The Devils wanted Vatanen as early as the expansion draft, but Vegas and Anaheim worked a deal to make sure that he was protected from being drafted. Shero making some very nice moves for the Devils.
