So what?

No one owes that football team or that school anything. If the school and team don’t generate that kind of enthusiasm, so what?

Here's the difference in mentality, and we can agree to disagree. While you may not like the level of excitement or personal enjoyment following Rutgers Athletics gives you all the time, supporting 'your' team can (and perhaps should) be unequivocal...as long as they don't cheat, for example, because, and here it is....the team does not owe you a damn f*n thing either. Not a single thing. You decide if you want to watch (or pay to get a seat in the stadium) and offer your support based on what they are, what they have been, and what they might become. Come along for the ride, or don't, but they owe you nothing either.

As far as owing the school, again, you can decide if by attending the school (assuming you are an alum or graduate) whether you received any benefit over and above the education you paid for.

Our fanbase is small..lets be honest...lots were packed today...season ticket holders and die hards are strong but the casual nj fan has dropped drastically..also we depend on other teams fans to fill as well and maryland didnt bring many

I have a pretty good sense of obligation when it comes to donating to schools and other things. Between high schools and colleges (including Rutgers) over the years I have donated a pretty significant amount.

But that’s a personal choice. I certainly didn’t owe Rutgers the money.

Going to the game is a personal choice as well. For various reasons, Rutgers just doesn’t have strong “brand” in NJ. And it just doesn’t generate all that much excitement.
