Laughing- while it was true...the HUGE difference is that AD is a once in a generation talent. While he may not have always known what to do, all you had to say was "Anthony, just make sure player X doesn't beat you"

Also very true- you also had other very experienced players on that team too such as Joe M and Blaze. That could have been a special year if we had OG's and if the scheme on O wasnt a total mess.

Yes, that was my point, his talent allowed him to play well, but he still had issues with the playbook.

Illinois has multiple Freshman playing, and their recruiting has been below what Rutgers has been bringing in, and they are able to look competent in flashes and bursts.
Outside of OSU, we do too.

Then we'll have a special teams mishap, an INT, or a dropped pass that completely undoes everything good up to that point.

They did lose to Nebraska 28-6 at home, we lost 27-17 in Lincoln.

And if we lose what will u say?

We should have beaten nebraska, a halfway competent staff would have

We lose this game by 7 as the will shut down our ground game and force us to throw with bolin.

If gio starts and plays, we crush them

It's looking like UW was smoke and mirrors.

Honestly this team looks good for the first drive when they run the scripted plays they practice all week, and then it just falls apart after that.

I agree, not so much that it's smoke and mirrors, but that UW probably called an ultra conservative game (at least initially), given the time-zone difference, our new OC, and all the new faces on both sides of the ball.

Once they were confident their receivers could get off our press consistently, that was it -- bombs away.

On the other side of the ball, same thing: call vanilla plays and assess our capabilities before finding and leveraging our weakness: downfield passing.

Big difference between "COULD have" and "SHOULD have." You're probably about one of 400 people on Earth (okay, maybe 4000, tops...) who think we "SHOULD HAVE" beaten Nebraska. They simply wore us down on their last 2 scoring drives because they're bigger and better. Talent and depth, or lack of it, is why we lost that game. Not coaching. COULD we have beaten them? Yup, for sure, no denying that one.

Again, that's not a "should have won" scenario, but a "could have won" one. Sorry I just disagree. They manhandled us on the LOS - both sides - late in the game. Bottom line the last 8 drives of the game we punted twice and got picked twice. Didn't do a good job of stopping them, either, as they scored on 3 of their final 4 drives. All about the bigger, better, deeper team, pulling away:

Nebraksa 97 yards TD
Rutgers 21 yards INT
Nebraska 22 yards FG
Rutgers 5 yards PUNT
Nebraska 46 yards FG
Rutgers 11 yards PUNT
Nebraska 22 yards Punt
Rutgers 16 yards INT

And their RB Ozigbo ran over Wisconsin too. Saw a lot of broken tackles when he was running against UW. But against Rutgers, some fans call them "missed tackles." RU actually held Ozigbo to 4.2 YPC, whereas he had 4.9 YPC against Wisconsin.

disagree, disagree, we absolutely should have beaten Nebraska. They are not a very good team and they do not have more Talent than us. We are not using the talent that we have effectively and once again, just like last year, we are putting a square peg into a triangular block. this staff sucks and when Illinois beats us, what are we gonna say then?

This is too easy. Aside from the "eye test," especially on the OL and DL, as well as at LB, here are the class rankings:

2013 NU(25) RU(24)
2014 NU(17) RU(45)
2015 NU(32) RU(57)
2016 NU(24) RU(78)
2017 NU(20) RU(43)

Avg NU(23.6) RU(49.4)

....so please don't tell me that we have more talent. Com'on man lol!

you got it............cut down on mental errors......and you'll look better, and score some points....thats what happens when you play true freshman, and add new players who are starting for the 1st time.......should have been 7-7 against ohio st., a defection, and a pick.....there goes your momentum.....its seems the breaks, and the bounces always go to the better team

guys... Jerry Kill is Ralph Friedgen part II minus the coaching talent.. he hasn't run an O for years and Minny's O was nothing to write home about... Limegrover wanted to incorporate spread, Claeys wanted to ground n pound, Claey's got the job.. and how did that work out?

Myhat- the day you get any facts right will be your first. This time, it was Nuts getting facts in your way. And Nuts is like many of us that still feel Ash has a lot to prove. BTW- Ash’s D has improved night and day though some of these injuries may get the best of that group but there is a ton of promise there.
As for Neb, that is a “could have” not a “should have” or no way we win.

I'm not so sure about Limegrover. He was the OC alongside kill at a few stops but Kill was calling the plays up until Minnesota even if he had the HC title. When we were looking for a OC after DM I read a couple articles on him to see if he might be a good candidate. I got the impression he's a better OL coach and more suited for that position than OC and that's what he's doing at PSU now. I wouldn't be so sure that he wouldn't be more a ground and pound guy himself.

EDIT: IIRC I think he was co-OC at Minnesota as well at least for part of the time there if not all. I can't remember the other guy's name but I think it was the other guy calling the plays. Claeys let them both go when he tookover IIRC.

But we had more talent than Eastern Michigan and they beat us at home. You never know . Nebraska was there for the taking.

No one disagrees with what you are saying. We could have beaten Neb and we never should have lost to EMU. Most likely, we shouldn't have played as close to Washington either...But big difference by saying they were there for the taken and "could have" then someone making false statements how we "should have" and basing it on the fact they said we had more talent. Nut's only pointed out the fact that NEB had more talent available to them...
