Franklin running up the score

I hate him too!! A Rose Bowl appearance in 2016, the number 3 ranked recruiting class in 2017 and a school that believes in winning football games. Yes, I hate you Franklin probably because I wish you were here.
Just root for Penn State then. You don't have to wish he was here. Seriously, what would possess a person to hang around the message board of an awful team who he doesn't even like?
And I don't care about tacking on the score. If Barkley broke a 35 yard TD run it's no big deal. But running gadget plays to pad stats when the game is in hand is bush league.
Rutgers fans blasting Franklin will have a field day when they play Penn State because he really likes running up the score to attract NJ recruits.
Wow? Sure thing derp...like it's so difficult watching and commenting on the last part of a game on the same channel before the next game up. It's college football knucklehead, not nuclear physics; but then again to a Ped st fan, it could seem that complex.

If we were playing a Morgan State or Georgia State of the world, I absolutely agree about running up the score. Personally, I thought it was petty and low brow for Franklin to ice the Georgia State kicker.
We weren't playing a lower tier opponent though, we were playing a decent Big 10 team. With the playoff committee, heisman voters, and a plethora of recruits watching, I have no problem scoring as many points as we possibly can. Love it or hate it, at this level, its not just how much you win, but how much you dominate in those wins. I would expect nothing less from the rest of the Big Ten if they are in the position to run it up on us.

I swear if I were Rutgers DC I would just go all out to stop Barkley because you KNOW Franklin's game plan will be to make a Heisman statement for him vs Rutgers... build up gaudy stats.. so completely sell out to stop Barkley.. beg them to throw the ball with 8-9 in the box... put a spy on Barkley...whatever it takes... I doubt very much Franklin will have the discipline to NOT just give him the ball even if we are successful... not until 3rd and 10.
1. Franklin can coach. There's no getting around it. He's still a first-class jerk.

He also had a touchdown on a 97 yard kickoff return and a long gain after making a circus catch on a swing pass. He's probably the best running back I've ever seen play in many decades of watching college football.
That's pretty much what everybody has been doing against him so far. Indiana blitzed almost every play and often contained him in the backfield. That's why he is racking up big receiving yards. Linebackers can't cover him in space. And it also opens up things for Hamilton and Johnson when they use Barkley as a decoy. You pick your poison. They try to come up and stop the run, and he throws an easy touchdown pass to Hamilton. That play was done to give the remainder of the coaches one more thing to worry about.
In other words you have tremendous offensive weapons. You forgot McSorley, when in doubt he tucks that ball runs and burns you for 20 yard gains. How you guys reloaded so quickly after the Sandusky incident is beyond amazing.
How you ask.
There are many who turn a blind eye and find excuses for doing so.
In your case it's seeing Penn St in the "only winning counts" light the cult follows.
Many of the recruits that went to Penn St and those who remained on the roster, were pulled in by the us against the world attitude BOB brought forward to make the kids on the roster already and the recruited he was going after buy into being part of.
Coach Obrien, and some key players like Hackenberg, Brenneman, and some defensive stars stayed on course and helped keep the program together and we never had a losing season.. Mike Mauti became a hero for things he said and did in the face of adversity to hold the players together. We had two consecutive 7-6 seasons before Franklin's recruits and getting the full scholarship of players restored got us to the championship last year, That seemed like an eternity, but with football you can always tell ahead of time by the recruiting classes coming in. We are just beginning to play juniors on the line of scrimmage now as the players are finally starting to age onto their proper positions. I think the real key was the support of the fan base. Attendance shrunk slightly to about 95,000 per game, but these kids who came or stayed during that time to play on undermanned teams were applauded like heros and cheered win or lose. There was a special atmosphere in the stadium that they would be part of something special again and we're laying the foundation for the successful program the NCAA tried to kill. They were loved as much as the championship teams. Now we're back up to 107,000 every game. The. Michigan white out will be a special night.
Wtr to Franklin, I think he accomplished two things. Recruiting wise, we are now involved with kids all over the country instead of focusing on local kids in PA, NJ, Ohio. And secondly, he has built this team on speed, more in the image of the SEC where he came from. His mantra is "family" , that once a kid comes to Penn State he becomes part of a family where each player is like a brother, or coaches like their father, and they insist on high academic achievementment, citizenship, and a high work ethic in whatever they do. He establishes a real team bond, and includes his own real family and the kids families in their broader group. All of this makes these recruits feel very welcome, and when you hear their comments after recruiting visits, you can tell that they buy into this dynamic. It probably doesn't hurt that Franklin is the most successful black coach in the USA, although he's in fact mixed race. He jokes that his father is black and his mother is English, and she began popping out brown babies. There seems to be no detail that this man misses. He is now recruiting at the top of the national rankings, and should have Penn State among the elite teams in the country almost every year. I can't imagine anyone else I'd want to coach at Penn State.

I agree fully that he's a great back, but he had a very non-Heisman day. 56 yards rushing and 51 receiving and 1 touchdown total just isn't good enough. Another day like that and his chances will dim significantly.
Thank you for the insight on how a community, school, players and coaches bonded together to save a football program. Personally speaking, I wanted Jerry Sandusky executed for what he did to those kids. But that's in the past now and moving forward it looks like you guys are in good shape. I will be at the November 11th game cheering on my Scarlet Knights.

I don't care about the score or who else scores. Franklin wants to run up the score and display Barkley to help get him a Heisman (meaning Franklin, by extension, coached a player to a Heisman).. if that can be stopped it should be stopped. Barkley could very well be the best RB in football... he's get himself a nice contract Heisman or not. Franklin is the one I want to disappoint.
Of all the strange things I've seen on this board over the years this guy is definitely pushing to be on the podium.
There was a similar guy on the basketball boards a few years ago that tried to disguise he was a Nova fan while taking constant shots at Rutgers.
It is just a bizarre waste of time.
200 all purpose yards! Wow! And 2 TDs! Clearly a Heisman week.
Jackson had 350 4 TDs
Mayfield had 425 5 TDs
Love had 300 (all rushing) 3 TDs
(Those are Heisman days)
I think Barkley is great. Best RB in a long time. I think he had an off day on Saturday, but let's be honest. He did not have a good game. One more game like this and he'll be on the outside looking in. And he's got some serious D's ahead of him.
With the Akron and Georgia St games part of Barkley's stats, I wouldn't be asking if SOS counts just yet .
Stanford opened with Rice, but mainly played good programs .
OK did play Tulane and UTEP, so that does look bad for Mayfield, like the cupcakes Barkley faced.
Jackson has Murray St and Kent St you can complain about when talking SOS.
But don't try to imply Barkley's Heisman shot might be derailed because of Penn St's SOS .
It's play on the field over the whole season and SOS is looked at when the candidates for the Heisman is being discussed by the Heisman Committee and then everything is weighed when looking at the candidates performance and award given to the one felt most deserving.
Seems like you're using the old Penn St approach to Barkley facing stiff competition, implying he'll be a victim and not receive the Heisman because of Penn St's schedule.,
Seems like that's what a lot of Penn St fans do, find flimsy excuses for any failure Penn St's FB program had, might have and the same goes for its players.
