Does strength of schedule count for anything?
Absolutely.

Sagarin SOS, games played to date:

Penn State: 66
Louisville: 73
Stanford: 20
Oklahoma: 75

Except for Stanford being much tougher than the rest, you can't really differentiate. So far PSU has played Akron, Pitt, Ga State, Iowa, and Indiana. Not a top 40 team in the schedule so far.

You're welcome to stop by my tailgate and share some good food and beverages. I know RU is down right now, but we all hope they become more competitive as time goes on and that the fans continue to support them. I hope you get a good turnout and enjoy your time in Happy Valley. Here's to a good injury free contest.

Nitwit - you really don't realize that you're talking to a fellow PSU fan? If not, you truly are a nitwit!!!

Thank you for the insight on how a community, school, players and coaches bonded together to save a football program. Personally speaking, I wanted Jerry Sandusky executed for embarrassing the football team that I love. But that's in the past now and moving forward it looks like you guys are in good shape. I will be at the November 11th game cheering on my Scarlet Knights.

... by wearing your pedophile blue?

BTW, I corrected your post above, you can thank me later!

We would hire Franklin tomorrow if we had the $$$ and the opportunity. Sure, he runs up the score...and sure, he pads Barkley's stats to help the Heisman campaign.

Those things boost PSUs national presence, recruiting, fund raising & merchandise sales, etc. He's doing, and Saban is doing, and Harbaugh is doing more than any AD could ever do.

He's doing his job exceptionally well. It's not his job to be well-liked by the competition.

Some alumni (including myself) don't want to sell our soul to be a football factory. Franklin is your prototypical SEC coach. If Penn State fans like him that's good for them. I'm not knocking that style. My wife went to FSU so I get it. I just don't want that for RU. I'd be happy with RU being a more consistent Northwestern type program. I Know our academics are not at their level but I'd love to be able to recruit the type of players they do.

Rutgers is a public school, a flagship state U. Northwestern is a bad analog for us, admirable as their rankings may be. We're much more likely to be Alabama than Harvard.

Pitt is probably a better analogy.

The worse thing is that some Rutgers fans really want that and want to look the other way and want to embrace the cult-like atmosphere these other programs have all in the name of "winning". They want to throw away integrity as if it means nothing.

Rutgers, as it is, isn't good enough for them but they are too lazy to fully embrace the dark side and go cheer some other program and spend the time and money to go on long road trips to see "home games" out of state. They seek the simple answer.. spend more money and look the other way on everything.

Franklin allegedly helped cover up a rape.. he recruits.. he wins.. lets bring him here... I can see Penn State having no issues with that.. if Rutgers had that attitude.. well.. lets just say we lost a good DB coach because he yelled at a woman in a bar... and it was likely the right thing to do. Gave him incentive to change if nothing else. We got a Bobby Knight style basketball coach counselling.. then there was a media storm about his tough style of coaching and his abusive language and we got rid of him .... yeah.. there is a real (and positive) difference in how Rutgers does things. I don't have a problem with boot camp style coaching.. but many do.. the point is Rutgers did the right thing while Penn State always did the wrong thing... and then bragged about it. Penn State.. the real DB U.

Good 'OL...I don't think any program / fan base in america would favor 'lack of integrity' to that previous PSU level (and the former president was put in jail, or UNC's level....but if you don't want to be a football factory then you can't complain about a 7 win ceiling most years....because most of the rest of the conference aims higher.

It's what coaches do when trying to make the four team playoff for a National Championship. Margin of victory is certainly factored in.

Theres a different standard of conduct when a coach or program is successful. Happens everywhere. Easy to fire a coach at a losing or .500 program for uncoming behavior.

He's right you know.

If what happened at psu happened here, you damn well know many of us would have had no problem with them shutting down the football program for a while. psu chose another tactic lawyer up and fight tooth and nail till the bitter end. To them it was just payoff the victims and it's business as usual.

Hell they even hired a coach who was embroiled in his own players rape scandal. But now we here talk of family and players bonding and coaches being father figures. He's one helluva father figure knowing what happened to those girls back at Vandy. They've learned nothing, hiring Franklin at that point was just spitting in everyone's faces and saying we don't give a **** except for winning. They've forgotten their true purpose in this instance an institution of higher learning.

Disagree x 1000. If what happened at PSU happened here, most every fan and the RU administration would fight just the same to keep playing as the PSU community did....for many reasons: fan enjoyment, THESE players, football revenue, etc. Fans are fans and business is business.

Cowboy fans could care less about Ezekiel's off-field transgressions. They just want Ws. Every AD is Jurich until caught. UL and UNC haven't lost fans or supporters and only want the entertainment.

Education ? Ha ha ha.

Ain't no morality here, on any side. We are no different. Only thing that matters is in revenue sports everywhere is winning. Fact.

RU would fight for every inch of leniency, and fans would hope for same. That is what universities do, what lawyers are paid for, and what fans want. Everywhere.

We as Rutgers fans are not different. Thinking we are different and unique is just ridiculous.

Because we did that with the latest sanctions? Actually if you want to know the truth, take a look at those sanctions we self imposed. Now take a look at what WV got for similar infractions. Just so you know WV let the NCAA handle the sanction part and got off lighter. That's right, that administration you so valiantly championed would fight for every inch of leniency, imposed their own worse sanctions.

You seem to have this preconceived notion that RU values winning above everything else. They don't. psu, Baylor, UNC, schools such as these do have that mentality. RU's history proves this point. You seriously think any of these schools would self report level III infractions? And then on top of that impose worse sanctions than required?
