Corey speaks...leaning toward leaving

I'm conflicted here. Corey is obviously athletic and skilled, but he's been an inefficient player for two years and actually got MORE inefficient from 2016 to 2017. Now, of course some of this depends on the rest of the team: if he passes to a guy who bricks a wide-open three, that's a good play that doesn't reflected in the numbers. But he also turned the ball over too much and settled for too many bad shots. Again, if he had better players around him that changes things, but he was worse in nearly every metric as a sophomore: Lower assist rate, higher turnover rate, worse shooting percentage from 3, from 2, and from the foul line.
The fact of the matter is that his production shouldn't actually be that hard to replace, but obviously Rutgers hasn't been able to consistently bring in real talent for about three decades.
So it's a question of would you rather have a guy who will probably be inefficient, or have a major roster crunch (two open schollies and no primary ballhandler) to deal with?

If Corey leaves I believe it will be one of the worst decisions he'll ever make if his goal is to make it to the NBA. He's probably good enough to play overseas but NBA, no way. He needs to demonstrate improved ball handling ( especially left hand) , playmaking, and most especially outside shooting. In the NBA he won't be driving to the hoop as often as he does and getting uncontested layups.
Will he be eligible if he were to come back? Seems like he has been out of school since the hoops season ended.
Seems like his heart is in pro basketball from his quotes. I doubt the NBA is in his future but he could likely make some decent coin playing overseas in Europe or China.

I think he wholeheartedly believes he can play in the NBA. I do not at this point, but overseas doesnt seem to be his train of thouhgt.
What Cali and other stated. His heart is on leaving and turning pro, somewhere. I understand. I'd like him to stay, but my wanting him to stay doesn't matter and is selfish for RU. Good luck to him and I hope he is a better pro.

As one said. Let it play out. Whatever happens Pikiell and the staff will find someone if need be. We have over 3 months until September. Too many people are in a panic.

I was skeptical about who may be out there at this time...but, then I thought about it some more....A really good PG would probably love the idea of getting the ball on day 1 as a P5 PG going against BIG 10 Competition and playing around 30 minutes per game. Remember, if a Spring Commit has not yet signed with another school Rutgers can come in an scoop him up by offering a great opportunity to start on day 1. Anything is possible.
Definitely not Tremont Waters (who is trouble behind the scenes)....multiple options are popping up everywhere, we'll land someone very solid to good even if Sanders departs....
God forbid our players improve this year when last year the focus was that they couldn't even get through a single practice for the first couple of months. Now they can actually utilize the time in practice to improve rather than just focusing on the fact that they could barely stumble through one.
The point is nobody knows what to expect out of the guys on the squad this year, but not expecting some big steps forward from some of our players would be foolish.
Agree with you Ash. There are so many people on this board who think it's Impossible that players can actually improve year to year with solid coaching, strength & Conditioning, Film study and all the other things players do in the off-season.
Considering what was reported about our former s+c program with the basketball program, not expecting further gains wouldnt be that smart. The new s+c coach has had exactly one year with these guys. Good strength and conditioning does not happen over the course of one offseason..there will be definite further gains. Not to mention that these guys had butchered coaching beforehand..more time to practice actual basketball.
Everyone knows Asst. coaches Brandin Knight, Karl Hobbs and Jay Young can't develop guys in their 2nd off-season more than Coach Bhatia, Coach Vetrone and Coach Macon. I mean Everone knows that....How can you possibly expect better than from those high powered assistants....lol
