Apparently he's able to get a hardship waiver from BIG so that it does not apply.
Finally someone who know's what he's talking about. He used his redshirt year to cover his transfer lost year per NCAA rules. He applied for a hardship waiver to get back the year of eligibility he lost due to inter conference transfer rules set by the B1G. He now has 4 to play 4.

Sounds like that's covered , now to find out his injury and if it's major or minor.
Worse case scenarios don't have to happen every time something goes wrong, but they usually do when it involves RU FB .

Here's my outlook. If it was something so serious we would have heard something by now. A broken ankle or leg, an ACL tear you can't walk or it's very painful to. Then you know right there the seasons over. My guess a bad sprain. When Grant went down we knew pretty quickly it was over.

He only has 3 years reaming due to B1G transfer rules. He is not eligible for a 6th year because his redshirt last year was not due to injury. He would have to miss another season with injury to qualify.

September 02, 2016 - T. Hunt reported - -
"Per Big Ten transfer rules, Mitchell would normally lose an additional year of eligibility (on top of sitting out the year), in order to transfer to another Big Ten team, leaving him with three years to play three.

But he'll apply for a hardship waiver due to extenuating circumstances at home, which wouldn't get him on the field for 2016, but would prevent him from losing the extra year of eligibility -- leaving him four to play four."

What is the status of that 'hardship waiver' ? was it ever given a ruling by the B1G?

The hardship waiver is an NCAA waiver but this is a B1G rule. The NCAA eliminated granting immediate eligibility hardship waivers. Instead an athlete may not apply for an additional year of eligibility after their eligibility is exhausted. They are going to be more strict in approving them. I highly doubt it going to be approved because typically you have to leave your previous in good standing. Mitchell was suspended from the team when he decided to transfer.

But he didn't transfer to a football program that molested 10 year old boys ... wouldn't that improve his standing?

Hunt has an article posted on December 10th 2016 about his brothers transfer stating he was granted the fourth year. Also scarlet knights.com reports his eligibility as being a R-Fr. So either those two sources are right or psu nut is right. I doubt psu nut is right, he rarely is. His premise of an immediate hardship wavier is completely wrong. He didn't apply for that, he used his redshirt and sat the year under NCAA rules. He applied to the B1G to get a year of eligibility back under their rules not the NCAA's.

(1.) yes - but the article was actually speaking about a "hardship" consideration that was going to be requested from the B1G. - and based on Kolezar's post - It seems that the relief from the B1G rule may have been granted.

(2.) while there was some issue between Harbaugh & Mitchell - which resulted in Harbaugh placing Mitchell on 'suspension' and that 'suspension' may have weighed into Mitchell's decision-making... but ... the most important fact is that- at the time of his departure, Mitchell officially exited Michigan in "good standing" and with the full support of the Michigan staff. This official status at the time of his departure would be overwhelmingly more relevant than speculation about whatever un-specified differences he had along the way with Harbaugh - especially since what ever the differences were - they were set aside & they parted with civility.

Worse case scenarios don't have to happen every time something goes wrong, but they usually do when it involves RU FB .
