I wouldn't call Randolph a college town, but the County College of Morris is pretty big and has a fair amount of things to do . I used to go to their planetarium years ago. Their high school football used to be one of the best in the state, but those things run in cycles and I don't think they are at the level they used to be. You are very close to Lake Hopatcong, many state parks, lakes, hiking ,ice skating rinks, and not too far from skiing at Mountain Creek in Vernon and a minor league baseball team in Augusta. Also, there are TONS of things to do in Morristown which also is nearby--more colleges,New Jersey Shakespeare Festival (Madison) and other theaters, the Morris Museum, historical sites, arboretums and the Community Theatre has pretty big names for concerts. The Jets train in Florham Park.Lots of shopping on Route 10 and the Rockaway Townsquare. If you like Spanish food, Dover is also nearby.
