I grew up in Rockaway but used to deliver pizza for Franks Pizza in Randoloh so I knew every street in Randolph. Randolph is a nice suburb to live in. Very quiet and lots of nice areas. Most people seemed to like living there. The one bad thing- Route 10 traffic to East Hanover sucks!

Lived there 15-17 years ago, and we liked it a lot. We lived on the border of Mendham. Too long ago to remember the culture/vibe of the community.

Do communities even have a culture/vibe any more? Our town in Monmouth County has 0 culture/vibe. Not sure if it is our particular town full of investment banking types, or if that is the way things are nowadays with everyone staying in there house and interacting on social media and message boards. We found that the people in Belmar and South Monmouth area to be more friendly and outgoing than our current location.

I think towns in North Jersey still have vibe. Certainly, one can easily distinguish between the "vibe" in, say, Maplewood and Ridgewood.

I grew up in Randolph, the town has no soul, it is the very definition of a commuter community. There is no natural town center whatsoever, unless you call the corner of Millbrook Ave and Sussex Tpk a town center, which it is not. People need to remember that it was once the rural part of Mendham. The advice to stay away from the Dover border area is smart. Shongum Lake used to be the best part of town, but it hasn't aged well. Ironia was the hicks and still is but with more development houses now. Randolph has a decent high school and the residents are willing to spend money on the school system, so that is a positive. Once your kids make it through the school system a lot of people pack up and move to a real town with a soul.

Ironia used to have what some of you would call "WT".
Randolph HS used to have a big cocaine problem in the 90s too.

I would research Roxbury if you are looking at Randolph. Offers a lot more for less money. Great community. People are really involved and the schools are as good as you need them to be. If you want to go Ivy League you can. Property taxes significantly lower and the parks and recreation system is fantastic. My sister has commuted to Florham Park from Succasunna for 30 years. It is just something you get used to.

If you are in Randolph then you should consider looking in Sussex, prices go down quick as soon as you cross the border. I live in Lake Mohawk and love it.

Some people get persickety when I mention it, but Rumson. Not proud of it. Not bragging. We have never liked it here, and will probably leave soon.
Why? It has a snobby reputation so I understand why you don't want to mention it but thought that it seems like a cool spot to live. Close to lots of cool towns.

I try to forget it.
Was not my scene with the guidos.
Went there once and a fight broke out with between some Colombians from Dover vs some Black dudes from Morristown.
Well the term Guido is kind of racist. Then you mention blacks and Columbians fighting. Not exactly "guidos."

Who remembers what Obsessions was called before it was called Obsessions? This is a test (which is actually a clue)

The Final Exam

PS- I lived at 212 Hamilton in the early -mid 80s. I'm assuming you lived at 198 Hamilton at some point.

Abro ding, ding, ding, winner, winner chicken dinner. 84-88, stayed there after we graduated for 2 years. You obviously walked by our house numerous times. My Three Sons for day drinking and darts with the locals? What a dive but it was fifty feet away.

Those were the years I was there too ! wow. Spent a lot of time at Patti's , Showcase Lounge, Court Tavern, Cluck U , Thomas Sweet etc etc. Great neighborhood .

Before and after New Brunswick I live in Hackettstown, and spent a lot of time at The Final Exam, Stanhope House, Joint in the Woods , and anywhere else there was music and girls.

Later on was a partner in The Dive on W 29th st NYC. Smithereens played there a lot. Got to know them from the bass player, Jim Babjuck, who worked at the record store on Easton Ave. Spent so much time there we became friends, I hired them for The Dive and became friendly with frontman Pat DiNizio , who booked acts for The Dive later on.

Best part of where we lived was that we were equidistant from Olde Queens/Patti's/Knight Club on one side and Melody/Roxy/SteakOut on the other. Lotta great music at the Stanhope House.

Someone here used to give me crap every time I mentioned I live there. Sea Bright is an OK beach town. Red Bank has a lot of restaurants. But as I said, the people in South Monmouth- Belmar/Wall/Spring Lake Heights/Manasquan just seem more neighborly and nice than up this way.
As for Randolph, we lived on Brookside Road, I think 3-4 houses from the Mendham border. Since we were on a busier road, we were not part of a neighborhood. But we got along well with our next door neighbor, and we liked it there.
