I teach a course called "How People Learn" and we do about two weeks on behaviourism. About two thirds of the class are training to become elementary teachers and they will use a lot of behavioural techniques (whether they realize they are doing it or not), especially in classroom management and work with special needs kids. Nobody else covers it in our training program, so I include it in the course. But, I focus more on information processing and cognitive approaches.

Cool, sounds like a good class...I've been in the Applied Behavior Analysis field for a long time, that's why it jumped out to me.

. . . . Hobbs will be classified or judged more on this hire than Ash . . . .

Wrong. The Ash hire will be way more important. Football is football, basketball is basketball, and the real world is the real world.
Now, the BB hire is important too, but it ain't football. Not even close.

He will be judged on the FB and BB hires and the facilities. But the one thing he can't screw up is the FB hire.

What exactly was the info he brought to the table? Thread was unnecessary without any real details.

At the time it was posted, Hurley was a virtual lock and as the day progressed second thoughts arose leaving the search back to wide open.

it would not be surprising if Hurley does what he did last time--that's why no one should count anyone in or out and that's why all this premature speculation is a waste--except for the usual cast of those waiting/relishing for their time to complain again and again

From zags...ball is in Hurley's court. We have offered around $2M a year for 6 years. One of his sources says everyday that goes by it is less likely he takes it.

Other candidates are Lonergan, Williams, Pinkiell, Cluess and Boyle.
That's a solid offer to Hurley. If Hurley wusses out and doesn't take it, that's definitely not on Hobbs or RU!

Why do you participate in the message board then? That's most of what a message board is. What are our approved topics to discuss today, your honor?

my gosh..A guy who may not want to come and save his state U. , a guy who doesn't want to move up the road a few hours, an analyst, a couple of low level guys, and a High School coach.

Geez this is bad. $2million just doesn't get you much these days.. I get ZERO from the last 3 on that list and in that case we should have saved the $ and kept Jordan... yikes. Feels like the Mich coach staying at Richmond instead of coming to RU.

I 've said it before --I'll support Hobb's choice--I trust his process and don't need to get into the typical BS about who is best because frankly no one here knows what Hobb's knows or needs to consider --it's unfair to the process and just gives the usual few reason to anticipate bitching and do the blame game

If what Zags is reporting is accurate (and I have no idea whether it is), I believe the true issue for Hurley and others is the commitment to the program. I see this as the critical challenge in the coaching search. Folks are unwilling to place their careers at risk even for substantial money. This is what these guys do - they are not simply interested in cashing a paycheck with little chance for on court success. If RU is telling candidates "just trust us - we are committed" that is likely not going to get it done for worthy candidates with options.

agree....RU is not the position of strength. I am disappointed that Hobbs seemed to disregard this. We should have kept Jordan than if this was going to be the issue, because everyone knew that it was an issue

What ever happened to SENDEK? Who on this board posted the report that he was already assembling a staff to come here? And not one peep about him since Jordan's been fired...

yes thats very disappointing. he would be the slam dunk hire. Was it that Hobbs didnt want to go down the experienced older guy route or did Sendek run for the hills once he investigated the state of the program. Hopefully the man got at least a phone call from Hobbs

Someone said that there was a tweet which said he was not interested in the RU job.

It was my understanding that he was assembling a staff, but not specifically for the RU job.

Rutgers can only guarantee a certain level of commitment because there are too many unknowns with the facility plans. Mainly how the hell will Rutgers find the money.

How about Chris Mooney, from Richmond. Princeton grad, Philadelphia area roots, successful track record. Just a thought. I'd like to get away from the usual Iona, Manhattan, etc. suspects.

I always wondered why Mooney was never mentioned . Excellent coach.

Or longer term
The longer term thing, if true, kills me. So easy to use it as a negative when recruiting against us in the next couple of years. "Rutgers? No offense, son, but even Coach Hurley doesn't think they will be good for the next few years. Why else do you think he demanded a seven year contract? You might sniff the NIT as a senior if you are lucky. Or you can come here (fill in school) and compete for the big dance every year."

If they are going to go stupid crazy with money ... why just be a little bit nuts ?
just go ask Brad Stevens what it would take to come back to college ball - and give offer him a million per year more than that.
