Per Jerry Carino's twitter as per observing his first practice:

- Toughness and Aggressive on the Defensive Front

- Rutgers can go 10 deep with its roster

- Shooting is a concern

- Greg Lewis and Bishop Daniels will be the leaders. Also, Greg Lewis has graduated and is taking grad courses. Congrats to a classy young man.

- Improvement from last year: Athleticism and Depth

- DJ Foreman playing with a lot more confidence

- No one stood out individually (yet).

DJ is my dawg!! Dude can run the court, so if he maintains control and develops a 12-foot J (and a pump-fake) he's gonna be tough to stop.

Lewis it a good dude. Quiet, and tough. And the fans that ever booed him are dicks just because they're dicks for booing any of our players.

It's going to be tough again. We're going to have to grind people down defensively to have any kind of a chance in games. I know they don't grow on trees, but I still find it difficult to believe that we can't find 1 or 2 competent shooters.

Lets see how they progress. You never know how kids will turnout from HS to college. Mike Williams was reported to be the best shooter in NYC when he came out, hopefully it was just an off year for Mike and he comes back confident. He can really help this year with hitting open shots, Corey should get him opportunities.

I know it is only one practice, but I would hope that Sanders would "stand out" some as things get going.

I renewed my tickets last week after some hesitation. I just want to see a team that plays hard, smart, defends and doesn't quit. It would be nice to put the ball in the basket on occasion as well.

You can easily determine if someone is a good shooter. If they miss wide open shots, tyhey are not a good shooter. It's as simple as that!!

I believe Grier is a pretty good 3 point shooter. Last year I think he had a bad hip but he shot pretty well from 3 his other two years at Bradley. Sanders can hit the three too at probably about 30% or better.

Haven't we learned that the pre season practice reports tend to be optimistic? I will reserve judgment on how we look until we start playing team with different color jerseys.

Here are Grier's 3 point shooting percentages.

frosh 40.8%
soph 32.2%
junior 31.8%

He played many less minutes last year because of his injury. Hopefully he can shoot well from three and help us.

Really wish the guy Ryan Johnson didn't transfer. Thought he would be a good shooter for us

Excited for this season. I really like Eddie and what he is trying to do here. Staff seems to be recruiting their arses off. Not sure I expect much in the way of results this season, but I think we are going to see some young guys (frosh/sophs) with potential. Just looking to see some light at the end of the tunnel that is not an onrushing train.

Saw Grier a few times as a freshman at FAU, and he looked like a shooter. Never understood why his PT kept dwindling.But Matt Doherty's replacement, Rex Waters (the G from K State) was not the best handler of players.

After this season I want to be able to visualize success down the road. If we have talent, a team that wins at least 50% of loose balls, and works hard on D it will be enough for me.

I can't disagree with these expectations, but it really does show just how low we've fallen over the past 25 years.

Not sure if it means much....I felt a lot better about the program today than I did last year at this time. A lot better.

Based on Carino's comment's on twitter, I have higher expectations specifically from Diallo as the second center opposite Lewis. Supposedly looks better than Doorson, who I thought had some future potential after doing some nice things in limited minutes last year. We could definitely use some solid D from Lewis/Diallo/Doorson as a unit so the guards aren't gassed playing press all game. That is one particular thing I am looking forward to watching develop.

Can't judge shooting from the first day, especially since defense was the focus of this practice.

Ordinarily I agree, although in cases of unsportsmanlike conduct, cheap shots, etc., I don't think it's an issue. They're old enough to know better. And sometimes for very foolish choices. But NEVER simply for performance.

We need bether coaching from the player development standpoint. For example, Mike Williams is a decent player but it's obvious that he takes too long to establish his shot. By the time he gets the ball off, the defender is already in his face and affecting the delivery. He needs to practice more efficiency in his mechanics. In high school, it wasn't exposed but in the B1G, it has been.
