There are always some good Western Pa players that do commit closer to signing date. I still wonder about his recruiting skills. Ohio recruits have always gone out of state. Most of Kentucky recruits are from Ohio. I don't know why Rutgers doesn't recruit Ohio.

I don't know having the same players come back is a good situation. You had a terrible season when I expected you to have a good season. With a great QB and running back, how did you lose so many games?
Agree we need to break into Ohio. How many bitter kids not taken by OSU or Michigan might we get!?!

RU & Pitt had a pretty good rivalry at the end in the Big East. Now RU & Pitt fans have become friendlier in their mutual hatred of Penn St, LOL !
Really Pitt and WVU fans are alright but Cuse and some UConn fans can be bitter. I understand the UConn fans but Cuse fans are beyond the pale with their seeming loss of FB status!! They can't come to grips with reality.

I'm going with 8 wins minimum. Pitt will beat Iowa this year and Duke also.

Last year Pitt was playing competitive football with most of our opponents. Five of our loses last year were by one score. Returning 16 starters from last year.

I'm hearing that Wayne NJ DL Michael Dwumfour(sp?) has Pitt and PSU as his top 2 picks. You hearing anything different.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

8 wins min? gosh...that's aggressive

16 starters, yes.....but a lot of those defenders aren't much to speak of. I understand you got Narduz, and he'll definitely help (gosh, compared to Matt House). but the talent isn't the same as MSU. experience matters, so maybe you got a point....but 8 wins min is quite optimistic. I'll say 8 wins max. so basically...you beat Iowa and Duke on the road, maybe. I guess it's possible...but definitely optimistic outlook with everything going right, lucky in the injury dept.

also, you're understimating what Chryst did for your offense & OL (juxtaposing what he did for your defense). Chryst is gone now with your new O.C. leaving an Arkansas team that finished strong in the SEC, for a lateral position at Pitt in the ACC....and no other coach left Bileama's staff?.....quite peculiar. my boss is an Arkansas alum, and he said Chaney got run out of town. Does that mean he can't have success with that OL & the big 3?.....definitely not saying that, but I wouldn't automatically assume the offense will run as effectively without Chryst.

hey, that's why the play the game, so we shall see.

yeah, I'm hearing Dwumfour is all PSU. we'll see

I would think most of the recruits in Ohio that are 3 stars are going out of state considering most Ohio State recruits are at least 4 stars. A lot of college teams are getting their players from Ohio. BC always get 1-3 every year. There has to be a few that want to be in the Big Ten to show Ohio State.

...there are times where I'm almost convinced that all of the calendars at cuse stopped on December 10, 1998 and there was a ban instituted on any new ones being brought in.

8 wins minimum? You do know that you have to play Akron again this year... Plus your QB is going through a headache right now and may be suspended.

Look the truth is I think both our teams will struggle this year, we replace a ton of starters including our QB, we both have new coaches with new systems, those things don't get fixed overnight.

I saw the reference to Bill Pickel's recruitment. I was an UG in 75 and 76 and that would be like saying "Gee - If we only had Red Grange in there running with JJ je
Kids in NY are just as talented as anywhere else but FB isn't emphasized!! Bill Pickel was 1 from yrs ago and Quentin Guase recently would have been a 4 star in Florida!! I'm dying to see how 2 star Devan Carter pans out!! NY is a hidden gem if you know it..Jordan Fuchs TE Indiana..lets watch him !
Bill Pickel - 12 year pro, 1 SB, 1 All-Pro -Good memory .... Hope he's doing well.

It Pitt. So while they will beat someone they have no business beating they will probably also lose to a school they shouldn't. I actually see them losing to Akron again. Akron best them last year 21-10. This time it a night game at Akron. There are other games that I could see them losing easily like Syracuse or Miami. I think 6-6 is safe but where the win and loses come from is the tough part.

I think SU will be stout even though they lack big play talent....there always tough. That QB of their's is a warrior who is a punishing runner. D is always game!! I see SU finishing 5-7 winning one they shouldnt and losing one they shouldn't. I think if their HCSS don't win 5 he's on the hot seat already.

Isn't that the same thing PSU fans claim?
It was second youngest.

Here from PSU game notes:

Youthful Lions

  • Penn State has the nation's second-youngest team, with 76 of the 105 (76.4 percent) allowable players in training camp being either freshmen or sophomores. Only Pitt has a younger squad, with 78.6 percent of its players in pre-season camp being underclassmen.
  • The Nittany Lions have 12 seniors, with only four seniors starting in the double overtime set back to Ohio State: RB Bill Belton, Saf Adrian Amos, LB Mike Hull and DE C.J. Olaniyan. Senior safety Ryan Keiser started the first six games of the season.
  • Penn State enters the Maryland game with 46 recruited scholarship players available to play, including just six seniors.
  • Seven of the 24 scholarship true freshmen have played this year, with the coaching staff looking to redshirt the other 17 freshmen.

I don't know why that is so important to you? Do you want my reps name? A copy of the receipt? An unused ticket for proof?

I think you're misinterpreting my tone. I have zero doubt you're a season ticket-holder. and because I know you're a season ticket holder.....you should already know what PSU fans claim. you shouldn't have to ask the question. I was honestly just being a smart a*s.

that being said, I find it quite ironic regarding your hard stance against PSU fans when you're well entrenched in the PSU community every home game. must be quite onerous to maintain civility with so many people you object to. did you lose a life-long bet or something? or do you descretely enjoy some friendly discourse w/some PSU faithful and simply placate to your scarlet brethren in efforts to plant your flag of loyalty on this board?

I don't have a hard stance against all PSU fans....just the JoBots. I have been lucky enough to always have good people parked around my RV each time we've gone. I also sell or give away most of the games because I only go when RU is away and PSU has to be playing a good opponent.

regardless if you actually attend the games or not, you're in the town/community/what-have-you. Obviously, you're in RV Lot, for gosh sakes, where there's tons of PSU fans, so I take it you know more than a handful....like myself. assuming, we can keep a loose definition of JoeBot.....do you personally know any "JoeBots"? whatever...i honestly wasn't trying to go down this path with you. just pointing out the irony....at least from my perspective.

Narduzzi is a meathead with a personality to match. Plus we are in a much better conference. Beating them for recruits should be expected.
Tru Dat. Heard Narduzzi on Serious Radio yesterday and he sounded like an elderly, retired defensive lineman. Marbles in his mouth and distinct lack of vocabulary. To be a superior coach of any kind he or she needs to speak clearly and persuasively. Narduzzi sounded burdened, not enthusiastic. This is one area that Sciano excelled in.

Yet old, cranky George O'Leary has won at UCF and old, (cranky?) Bill Snyder has won at Kansas St . Not sure if they have 'marbles in mouth' syndrome like Narduzzi is accused of having. Actually I don't recall ever hear Narduzzi speak, so not sure how accurate this is. I'll trust the poster until I hear otherwise. Beamer at Va Tech is getting up their in years, I'd imagine he needs win at least 8 or 9 games to keep his critics at bay.

Narduzzi is a (1) tactician. He seems like a solid (2) motivator as well.

Those traits are good enough to win you 7-8 games a year.

However, in order to consistently win 9-10 at this level, you need to be a (3) master planner and an astute (4) salesman.

In fact, Schiano had all four of the attributes I just mentioned and still couldn't win consistently.

That's because he lacked the final (and arguably most important) critical skill: (5) The ability to identify, hire, delegate, and retain a top flight coaching staff.

It's obviously way too early to get a good read on Narduzzi, but he's not known for 3, 4, or 5. Contrast all 5 categories with those of Saban, Meyer, or even Franklin.

PS: I will say that I grade him higher than Flood. And I'd generally categorize myself as a Flood supporter.

Compared to Paul Chryst, Narduzzi is an orator.

Actually, Narduzzi is a great speaker having heard him speak many times.

Speaking well didn't stop Wisconsin from taking Chryst.

A Head Coach speaks the loudest with his wins on the field.

At this point in time you have no idea whether Narduzzi will be a good HC or recruiter.
Therefore, my prediction/speculation is that by December, Pitt will have more wins than Rutgers and by February Pitt's recruiting class will be higher ranked than Rutgers.

Be back in December and February for further discussions on who is correct.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
I totally agree . To "HAIL" with Pitt.

You grade a guy who has never been a head coach higher than Flood already? And you're a Rutgers fan? And you categorize yourself as a Flood supporter (whatever the hell that is)?

I continue to be amazed by the amount of vitriol that perpetuates this board...

1.) Yes. Narduzzi is largely credited for MSU's stellar defenses -- it's why he was given a P5 head coaching gig with zero HC experience. He was also considered for several other P5 jobs before accepting Pitt. Exactly how many HC jobs has Flood been considered for other than Rutgers?

2.) Yes. I can rate whoever the hell I want higher than Flood and still be a Rutgers fan.

3.) Yes. I am not one of the many here who lament Flood daily and take every opportunity to disparage the guy. I like the culture he maintains around the program and the fact that he seems to be a better delegator than Schiano. He is the guy behind the big desk at the moment and I support him in that role because if he is successful that means the program is successful.

Overreact much?

Interesting responses guys.

I'll clarify my position points that I made in my earlier post.

With regards to Pitt recruiting:

To date, Pitt has a Total of 6 recruits 5 (3-Stars) and 1 (2-Stars). Of those 6 recruits 3 are from Ohio and 1 from Virginia and only 2 from PA (WPA). Many good football players from Western Pa as well as the rest of Pa have not committed yet. At the end of the day Pitt will get its fair share of Pa recruits. What is interesting (at this point) is that half (3) of Pitt's recruits are from Ohio. The fact that Ohio only has one school in a P5 Conference may be a recruiting advantage for Pitt going forward. Additionally, I know Narduzzi is recruiting nationally and has many offers out to good players who have not committed to date. These are the reasons I am not concerned about recruiting at this point in time (waiting for February).

With regard to Pitt 2015 football season:

I am expecting that this year will be Pitt's break out season for many reason.

-A former 4-star QB who completed 61 % of his passes with a 16 to 7 TD to INT ratio last year as a sophomore.
-Perhaps the country's most efficient big running back who was a sophomore.
-One of the nation's best WR who was a sophomore.
-An offensive line that returns 6 players with starting experience (62 career starts), including a former 5-Star coming into his own.
-An offensive coordinator who coached a top-15 offense at Arkansas.
-A front seven that returns six players who had at least four tackles for loss.
-A secondary that returns six of its top seven.
-One of the country's best defensive minds at head coach with a defensive coordinator that improved FIU's defense by 46 spots.

Many positives for Pitt football this season (waiting for December).

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Well Pitt scored its first Rivals 4-Star recruit with the commitment of Ruben Flowers ( WR, 10th- best player in Ohio), which now makes 4 Ohio recruits (50% of our class at this stage).

Aside from the Western Pa kids, it appears Ohio is becoming a nice recruiting area for Pitt.

Eight recruits (One 4 -star, Five 3-star, two 2-star)

4-Ohio
2-Western Pa
1-Virginia
1-New Jersey

Waiting for February

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

You are selling the PITT campus a little short. It's not for me but it is a true concrete campus and can be attractive to city kids who want to stay in the city. I've never been to your campuses but they sound like they are in the burbs.

Recruiting OH is a double edged sword. Lots of talent there but OSU is the only game in town. You may have some kids interested in Michigan but if an Ohio kid gets an OSU offer, 9\10 he is going to OSU. Therefore, you are battling UK and some other schools to pull mostly 2 and 3*s that OSU doesn't want. You also have to be concerned with a committed kid getting that coveted OSU offer and flipping. Not to flame but look at what happened to PITT last year. We raided them.

The guy has only been there 6 months. Far too early to make any judgements, good or bad. Funny thing is I am guessing many of the same guys who are anti Narduzzi in this thread are also the same ones arguing that Flood has only been here 3 1/2 years and is a young coach who needs some time to establish himself..

One last thing. I agree with others ITT that just because he was a good DC doesn't automatically make him a good HC. Look at Muschamp. In addition, I find it odd that it took him so long to actually become one and he had to settle for PITT. It's certainly not the MAC but it's not a dream jov either.
