Wisconsin. How do the 2 no contests effect the Big Ten West race? If Wisconsin goes 5-1 with a win over NU and NU goes 7-1, who goes to Indy?
I think NU would go because of higher win percentage in conference games. Head-to-head counts only if two teams tie in win percentage, if I understand correctly. How do the 2 no contests effect the Big Ten West race? If Wisconsin goes 5-1 with a win over NU and NU goes 7-1, who goes to Indy?
As long as both teams play at least 6 games and each have 1 loss, head-to-head determines the division championship.I think NU would go because of higher win percentage in conference games. Head-to-head counts only if two teams tie in win percentage, if I understand correctly.

Per Wikipedia: "Division standings are based on each team's overall conference record, excluding teams ineligible for postseason because of sanctions. In the event that two teams are tied, the head-to-head results between those two teams determines the tiebreaker"
This was covered in another thread. It's different this year due to Covid.
The "difference due to Covid" is that, if Wisky no-contests another game and the rest of the conference averages more than seven games played, Wisky is disqualified from the championship no matter what else they do, even if they finish 5-0. You have to complete no fewer than two games less than the conference average to be eligible.
There's no special exemption allowing them to count their no-contest games as if they were wins, which is effectively what you're claiming. Division standings are still based on win percentage in conference games. A 5-1 record is a win percentage of 83.3%; a 7-1 record is a win percentage of 87.5%.
I stand corrected. Wow, that's off-the-wall stupid. Basically, we should arrange to get COVID and not play Wisconsin at all, then. That would have the dual effect of (a) disqualifying them; and (b) keeping us from being effectively penalized by playing a full slate of games.
Yeah, but UNL would be 0-3 right now if they’d played. The fact they were able to make the determination and not the B1G was stupid. They really had no incentive play with their 4th string QB. This is what got UNL fans so upset.
Yeah, but UNL would be 0-3 right now if they’d played.
But wouldn't it be on overall record and the 7 min team would have a better overall record. Head to Head would be the tie breaker if they had same record. As long as both teams play at least 6 games and each have 1 loss, head-to-head determines the division championship.
What would PU be?Yeah, but UNL would be 0-3 right now if they’d played.
I like our chances! Ramsey has a very accurate arm.Mertz will be tough to beat. BJo and Newsome will have to play their best. PRamsey will also have to be at his best as well. Our d must continue to dominate. It will be like playing osu in many ways
If 2 teams have the same number of losses, the tiebreaker is head-to-head, regardless of overall win percentage. But wouldn't it be on overall record and the 7 min team would have a better overall record. Head to Head would be the tie breaker if they had same record.
There's a simple solution, and that is to beat Wiscy. It is stupid and reeks of gamesmanship (they may have gotten by Nebraska but likely not Purdue with their fourth string QB).
But let's assume they beat us. They still need to get through Michigan (maybe with a chip on their shoulder), Iowa, and resurgent Indiana. No gimmes and harder than our remaining schedule.
I... just... can'tThis week may be the first time I have ever rooted for Harbaugh.
No need. Root against Harbaugh, and let’s leave the job of beating Wisco to ourselves. This week may be the first time I have ever rooted for Harbaugh.
Are they not both blueI... just... can't
The only time I've ever done it was when I was listening to Rocky Top and hearing "SEC!!" chants in Tampa. Meanwhile, over in Orlando, Michigan was thrashing Florida, leading me to grit my teeth and say "Go Blue!"
