THERE’S our common ground PPD! Absolute delight in stories like these. Thanks for sharing, Brother!

I am not sure I understand your post. I, for one, do not take any pleasure in seeing a young man's future ruined, even if it was by his own actions

Same here. We may be in the minority, but I take no pleasure in a kid failing to live up to expectations.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he just asked to leave a football team...playing on the football team is privilege (even Illinois!). Doesn't seem like he's been kicked out of school or is in any sort of legal trouble. His life isn't ruined, unless justly taking away a privilege is somehow ruining his life.

It bothers me even more to hear about a kid on an opposing team who get seriously injured as opposed to someone getting kicked off the team for a rules violation.

Please guys, don’t ruin some of our posters’ chance to promote their holier than thou attitudes. And yes, I do enjoy seeing a program who’s demise is inextricably linked to our sustained success, who is arguably our biggest rival, who has taken umbrage with the whole premise of us being Chicago’s Big Ten team and has taken numerous steps to undermine that concept, continue to take missteps and lose footing on every positive step they seem to take.

After the fanfare of Lovie coming on board, all disciplinary issues and transfers out of the program were ‘blamed’ on those kids being Beckman’s or Cubit’s recruits, that Lovie’s were beating them out and so they were disgruntled and transferring. Seeing Lovie’s own recruits now getting suspended, transferring out of the program and or being out for the season as an ‘academic redshirt’ because they can’t meet minimum NCAA academic standards, is keeping that program right down in the dumpster, and is all but removing and chance of them becoming a recruiting competitive threat very soon.

I wouldn’t conclude his future is ruined. If he can play, we all know he will land somewhere.

Well we both are local and many of our regular posters aren’t. Sorry, but I have lived in Chicagoland my whole life and am tired of the aura of Athletic superiority that many bestow on our friends down South. It’s like any local recruit in Football or Basketball that doesn’t go to the state school is some sort of traitor. The arrogance is fever pitch when they are mediocre. It is unbearable when they are better than average.

I wasn’t taking glee at the kid being forced to change schools even if he brought it upon himself. I do take glee in the Illini faithful eating their words when they tout their players are program changers and then completely reverse course when they leave school. “We don’t need them anyway”. Anyone see the attacks on the 4 star lineman that ended up at ISU? How about the social media attacks on Mark Smith in B Ball?

People can hate on OSU, Michigan, PSU or whoever, but I struggle to understand how you can be a NU fan and not have the Fighting Lovies at the top of the dislike list. This is supposed to be our rival!

We have owned them so much in recruiting and on the field, and they are so bad, that I feel more pity than antipathy for them. It's really rotten down there.

That pathetic crowd at the South Florida game ought to cause them to dial back the anti-Chicago's Big Ten team rhetoric against Northwestern. Even their basketball presence in Chicago via their annual game at the United Center has fallen off lately.

I'm an NU fan, I delight in beating Illinois as thoroughly as possible, and I don't have Illinois at the top of my hate list. Perhaps that's because my father went there for grad school, and because a sister and brother-in-law are both alumni, and because all of them root for NU whenever we are not playing Illinois. 61-23 remains my favorite score.

That is perfectly stated. And that is why I want them down to an embarrassing level. All it will take is for a single 6-6 season and a bowl trip for their fans to crawl out of the woodwork and for it to seem like they have been the more successful program the last 25 years in the Chicago media and among their fan base that dwarfs our own.

And another...

It’s a train wreck in Champaign. And I love it.

He was an All Big Ten Freshmen TE for them last year. Lovie has not only lost leftover players from the previous staff, he is now seeing kids from his own recruiting classes starting to transfer. Their 2019 class is anemic now even when factoring in the highly rated recruit from St. Louis. Just wait what to see the panic mode that sets in among the Illinois faithful when that kid decommits. It's getting uglier by the minute down in Champaign.

And Bennett Williams was also All Big Ten Freshman. The narrative was look at all these young stars we have coming through the ranks. They will be the youngest team every year at this rate.

Wow. Didn't pull any punches. Wonder who recruited those kids??

Exactly. What a **** show. After last season with the what, 16 transfers, all you heard from Illini “not quite faithful” was that these were bitter upper classmen who were beaten out by freshman, kids who weren’t Lovie’s recruits.

Now the last two Lovie recruiting classes are missing a serious chunk of kids due to transfers out (even if they started as freshmen), disciplinary issues and academic non qualifiers. How on earth does any highly sought after kid with good options decide to join that train wreck? The 4/5 star qb may stay because Illinois hired his HS coach and they’re the only school who’ll let him play QB. But they have others verbals who are still getting offers, a DL out of Texas got a Nebraska and TCU offer recently. How on earth do you remain committed to that mess?
