My bet is on a return! He needs to work on his mechanics. That is, of course, if we win out/including the bowl game. Then, he most likely will be a top 40 pick in the nfl draft. And you can put it on the board...yes!!? He will go pro in that case.

You know what I mean? Will CT be back next year? He will lead BT in passing yards this year\currently second.
He is way to inconsistent to be a high draft pick this season. He would be nuts to try to go pro after this year and will be likely back in college next year. The danger might be if he decided to be a 5th year transfer but I have a hard time seeing that, And next year he has a lot of receivers that he has developed chemistry with.

Guys should stop with all the leaving early talk. At this point he'd be lucky to even get drafted!! Barely over 60% completion. 6.5 ypa 11 tds 11 picks and he's 101st in qb rating. So just stop

I tend to agree. It might have been justified to start the season, given how he came on at the end of the year. But not now.

Have to agree, 11 INTs to go along with 11TDs is enough of an argument against him being drafted. Happy to have him back next year though, we will depend on him even more with Jackson graduating.

Sweet, give him my best! But at least Siemian played all four years to get that 7th round pick. I look forward to Elway taking another flyer on Thorson!

Thorson has better physical skills than Siemian, so better chance of making it in that respect. And Thorson’s 2016 season was better statistically than anything in Siemian’s career.

Fair, I definitely agree on both accounts, and I agree you can quote instances where someone with worse stats than Thorson has been drafted. But it's not usually the stat line of a top or even mid-round draft pick. Don't get me wrong, I want Thorson to be an NFL quarterback for all the right reasons.

From what I can tell, you are much closer to the program than I am. So what do you think, is this his last year or is he coming back?

Haven’t heard much lately, but hard to see him getting a sufficiently high grade to leave after this year. Just my opinion.

He definately needs to play another year. However, he has all the tools. Sitting in the stands you can see how much more zip he has on the ball than Sindelar of any other QB that has come to Evanston this year. This includes McSorley, Lewreke and Stanley who all have a shot.

Trevor Siemian says “hello!”

Thorson has better physical skills than Siemian, so better chance of making it in that respect. And Thorson’s 2016 season was better statistically than anything in Siemian’s career.

Scouts/coaches take a look at how a QB plays relative to the level-of-talent surrounding him.

Thorson has played 3 seasons with NU's GOAT at RB and last year with the best receiver to have come thru Evanston in some time.

Yes, Thorson has better physical attributes than Trevor, but he's not where Siemian was in his last season w/ the 'Cats.

But that's not surprising as Thorson was pretty raw as a passing QB (like Kafka-level raw); QBs like Siemian and Bacher were more polished passers coming into the program.

Thorson still needs to work on keeping his mechanics more consistent and as I had stated before, needs to work on that next level of QB play, extending plays with his legs to set up the pass.

That's something Persa was great at and what Siemian did pretty well when McC finally let Trevor out of the pocket; have also had issues w/ how McC has handled Thorson in that regard.

Too often, McC has kept Thorson stationary in the pocket and not making use of his speed (for a QB).

Now, not necessarily asking for how Kafka was used earlier in his career, but what's the use of recruiting QBs with above avg. mobility if you're not going to use it (have used it more often the past few games)?

But when Thorson runs, he's still more of a tuck it and run QB than trying to extend the play and looking downfield for an open receiver.

Also, while he has more straight-line speed than Trevor, Clayton is more stiff has a runner (has less wiggle).

If Thorson gets a 2nd rnd grade, then he should leave; but don't think he'll get that unless he really pours it on these next 2 games and in the bowl game.

A 3rd rnd grade makes the decision a 50-50 proposition, maybe leaning more to coming back.

Why leave unless he is projected to be drafted so high he can make major guaranteed money? His risk of a serious career limiting injury isn't that great compared to say a running back or defensive player. Stay and he will have a good chance to become a Chicago area icon - setup for a terrific career in whatever field he chooses plus he will never have to pay for another drink the rest of his life. Drafted in the third round or lower, maybe even the second round, not as good.

Start the clock earlier. Unless you’re a first round pick, the way to get paid in the NFL is to get to the second contract. Start the clock earlier, get there faster.

And this is exactly why so many here have a certain opinion of you.

Yeah, there are others who have rubbed many here the wrong way, but at least they've done it w/ some style (or are just taken for being eccentric).

It is not just the stats. He has just seemed pretty inconsistent this year on his throws.

I don't disagree. That's a big part of the reason I don't think he gets a high enough grade to come out after this season. But NFL QB coaches will always get enamored with "toolsy" guys, convinced that they can develop them into starters. It's the same reason Josh Allen is so high up on draft boards despite "pretty good-not-great" numbers/tape at Wyoming.

Isn't that what a lot of us were saying? Sounded like you were thinking he was such a pro prospect he would go after this year while many of us were saying that he had not shown this year that he was ready. This statement indicates that his grading out says the same thing

I thought he could leave after this season if he took another significant step forward because he has all the tools that NFL talent evaluators want in quarterbacks. That said, I don't think he's developed enough to be considered in the first couple rounds and therefore expect him to come back for his fifth year, but weirder things have happened.

One of the reasons McCall likely did not like CT rolling is it cuts the field in half and our receivers have not been that great getting open. He has also not shown to be accurate throwing on the run.

A lot of us thought it was a possibility. But without the security blanket of AC, he has not taken that step forward that would indicate it is time to go,

Siemian was not more advanced as a passer in his last year at NU than Thorson is now. They actually have similar issues with inconsistency, accuracy and pocket feel when under pressure. Given these similarities and greater physical talent, I see Thorson being a 4-5th round pick if he decided to come out this year. In my opinion he would be much better off staying for another year, working on his weaknesses and becoming a first round pick after leading NU to a Big Ten Championship.

Of course they aren't. But, they aren't oblivious to them either.

Nor are they oblivious to the discomfort in the pocket, the high throws under pressure, and the inaccuracy demonstrated in multiple games.

There is no way he gets drafted high if he comes out this year.

Disagree. Siemian demonstrated a toughness that I have yet to see out of Thorson. His work vs. Notre Dame was more impressive than anything Thorson has shown to date, not to mention the 4th quarter relief appearances he pitched upon multiple occasions earlier. Kubiak basically said he drafted Thorson on the basis of the Notre Dame tape, and the throws he was making, the decisions, and the leadership he showed. Thorson has not demonstrated he can play to that level yet.

Thorson physically is better than Siemian but he doesn't have the head (though Siemian didn't show it in his last few outings). There's a reason Siemian beat out Paxton Lynch earlier, and it's the same reason he was ahead of where Thorson is now.

GCG has some knowledge about the game, and certainly more than me, but I wouldn't give two bits for his scouting abilities based on the era in which he served NU and the fact that he totally whiffed on projecting Siemian.

Toughness? He gets hammered in every game we play against a decent opponent. What are you looking for him to do, chew glass? Executing 5 straight OT touchdown drives shows me something about mental toughness.

CT is significantly better than TS ever was at NU. Not close. Love TS, but let’s be real here. Seen every home game from both of them. This isn’t to say CT will be a better Pro or even stick on a roster. Don’t know.

ECat- questioning CT’s toughness ( has he ever missed a start) is out of your Lane here.
