As I said, you know due to veracity in which they’re targeting this kid that he’s innocent. He represents an existential threat to BLM. An armed and organized populace pushing back on their mob tactics. They cannot allow that. They have to crush this kid for the sake of their movement. If he walks, and he will, it will embolden others to do the same. They should. If a business and property owner cannot rely on the Govt to protect them and their interests, it becomes the mandate of an organized populace to do so.

I think you replied to the wrong person. I asked an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney over beers this weekend about the kid. This guy is extremely liberal so his response was expected.

His opinion is the kid illegally possessed a gun and crossed state lines with the intent to engage others with force...which makes him guilty....he said nothing else matters. I don't think he is well versed in this case and because I was warned to not talk politics...under the "no P*ssy rule, I drank a lot and kept it light. It's interesting listening to him talk about how judges bend the rules to protect criminals yet he supports that stance by who he votes for...

I give you props for asking the question, I also give you props for clearly stating your belief.....

This is how I see it and without using “political lenses”......as a man with a minority wife and many minority friends and colleagues of different socio-economic backgrounds.....

It comes down to seeing a person for who he/she is first and foremost and without initial judgement based on their skin color. Example: 55-year old white man and a 55-year old black man, both driving a Mercedes and both roll through a stop sign in front of a cop.....the likelihood that the black man is pulled over is 3X’s as likely.....OR an older white woman is in an elevator and her posture and reaction as 24-year old white man steps in versus a 24-year old black man......these are very basic examples that as white men, we never think about because we don’t need too....

At a higher level, it’s also community investment and education, education is the key to personal growth and opportunity.....but ultimately, as we see in the real world, it cannot be given, it must be earned....change starts in the community and the family structure, that in itself, HAS to come internally from the minority community.....but everything else should be seen through the lens of humanity, which is what god intended as he created us in his image, but in the color of many....

To answer your questions specifically, not sure that humanity can ever cross the goal line, but the better we choose to be with one another, the closer we can ultimately be....

There are racists in the US...some on this board....just not who you think they are. What you are describing is entirely something else. While that still happens it is <5% of the time....AND THAT IS 5% TO MUCH...but is not common like it is portrayed.

It is not the color of their skin but the overall appearance they are trying to make. If a 55 year old man is wearing a suit and tie...different outcome. If the man is wearing a wife beater and a trucker hat.. different outcome. If the kid gets in the elevator wearing Vineyard Vines...different outcome. If a 24 year kid is tatted out, hat turned backwards and is missing his front teeth...different outcome....and yes I drilled it into my kids to always be aware of their surroundings...which includes profiling individuals based on the total picture...not the color of their skin.

I appreciate your position, but if you truly believe this issue isn’t systematic and only an issue 5% of the time, then you are not close with and speaking with minorities across the spectrum. I over simplified my example to make a point and you countered, which I can agree with......But the problem is systematic and much broader than what you say.....go look at the most recent business news about the lawsuit against McDonalds by 158 of their minority franchisees.....$1B with the foundation being systematic racism with regards to business opportunities....this is now real world where people of color are fighting back where it hurts the most....$$$

I have been aligned in an HR function for a Fortune 30 company for 1/4th of my career and have been involved in a fair share of lawsuits involving discrimination. I know one of the top attorneys in the nation (NYC based) that has won some of the biggest settlements in US history. They are not common and often times settled out of court as it's a better business decision to settle than to fight...and attorneys know that.

My son was notified on Monday that one of his employees is accused of making derogatory statements in a business setting. He called HR immediately...and then called me for advice. The employee making the claim is on a performance plan and the company announced the same day that they are restricting due to Covid (up to a 20% reduction in force). My son believes this is a ploy to keep their job...my advice...keep it to himself...and let the investigation play out. Things have a way to work their way out. In the last month he as terminated a white male for poor performance and another (Naval Academy Grad and Navy Seal) for severe lapses in judgment. No one cared about the white dude....the Navy guy took approval of the Sr. VP due to his military status.

My college roommate called last night and was talking about HR stuff. He was just notified that a person who quit his team 6 months ago is suing the company for discrimination as she did not get promoted....she left on her own accord. My buddy had her on a plan and she had a side job (CPA) that may have impacted her performance. But he knows they will settle out of court and life will go on.

Both of these examples just happened this week...and I have not embellished either event...is this systemic racism...or something else?

But yet, he didn't cross state lines with an illegally possessed gun, and didn't have the intent to engage others. Your friend's opinion is no better than KKK's.

Pierce said Rittenhouse did not bring the weapon from Illinois.

"That firearm never crossed state lines," he said. "That is a legal firearm in the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin is an open carry state. That charge is incorrect as a matter of state law."

The 17 year-old boy who walked down the middle of the street with an assault rifle after murdering two people wasn't even arrested. He went home, across the state line.

The wing nuts in Michigan who went in the state capitol with assault rifles.

I could literally go on for hours.
Wasn’t murder

I never said it was...but it is an opinion from an assistant prosecuting attorney...nothing less and nothing more...and I am not sure I agree with him either...just like I don't agree with many of his stances on politics.

Based on my interaction with HR management, the examples you provide seem to be performance related, which it should always be this way. I am in sales and have been for 17 years, what I tell my team on a regular basis is, we have our name on a board and below our name is a quota, the only thing that matters is your success relative to that number each and every year.....

With that said, as white men, we have no clear understanding of hurdles or invisible hurdles a minority man faces and for anyone to try to justify that otherwise, isn’t being honest with themself....

Much of that depends on where you live as well. I know that some cops DO profile, it's a common part of the job that makes logical sense. You see a beat up Honda in a neighborhood of Mercedes, Rolls, Lexus's and you can bet your *** they pay attention to that Honda. But knowing law enforcement like I do, there is a trend now of minorities reacting to traffic stops in an entitled manner, that LE have no justification to pull them over, much less charge them. In one recent case, when a black man with an outstanding warrant was pulled over for a traffic violation, LE had to physically drag the man out of his vehicle because he wanted to argue that he didn't feel safe and didn't have to step out of the vehicle to be placed under arrest. Fortunately for him and the LE involved, he never reached for the loaded handgun between his legs, because if he had, he'd have probably been another statistic. The simple fact of the matter is, the vast majority of the time, if you follow instructions to the T, and act in a civil manner, you will walk away from stops.

This is ABSOLUTELY the case. Take Baltimore for example, there is ZERO excuse for the problems seen in that city. It can not be laid at the feet of racism. It can not be laid at the feet of the Republican party. It's rests solely on the residents of that city.

Meanwhile, in areas like my own, the minority kids are sitting in the same classrooms at the non-minority kids, dealing with the same teachers, same system. And there are TONS of minority kids thriving and excelling because of the family structure they have at home.

One was sales related...the other was a large insurance company on the legal side. The Navy Seal was a management position....my point is, one person's racism is another person's performance issue. ...My experience is systemic racism is created (over 50%) when performance is lacking...and I am not saying that minorities perform at a lower level just they go there when things go bad. In fact, most companies will allow a minority to stay on a performance plan much longer than a white guy...it is what it is. No one wants to admit that they did not work hard enough...so it must be the color of my skin.

Yes, an assault rifle.

I have one of those...It is NOT an assault rifle. Because you find it scary looking, doesn't mean it's one either.

as·sault ri·fle

noun

a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use.

Again..Not even by definition, is it an assault rifle. You don't have to be so ignorant, you know. Think for yourself for a change.

There he goes again. Facts remain the same though.

CR89 is the only poster on this forum that actually attended Marshall, and supposedly graduated from Marshall.
CR89 actually works in Huntington, WV, and likely lives in Huntington. Perhaps others on here do, but highly unlikely.
CR89 is the only poster on this forum that solicits business from the regional jail.

Not to mention, he's a moron.

White privilege is real.

If so, can you tell me:
1) What it is
2) How I got it
3) Give several examples. The more the better.

See, in all my years, I never knew I had the advantages you will describe for me when you answer. As such, I plan on using every one of them in the time I have left. I have a lot of time to make up for and don't want to waste a second.

Thanks in advance!

A white man denying white privilege exists. Hilarious!

Ask black people about renting a house or apartment. Ask black people about applying for loans. Ask black people about applying for jobs. Ask black people about walking through an affluent neighborhood. Ask black people about getting pulled over by the police. Ask black people about applying to enter their children in a prestigious private school. Ask black people about applying for a membership in a prestigious country club. Ask black people about Confederate monuments. Ask black people about voting.

Ask black people about applying to enter their children in a prestigious private school. Ask black people about applying for a membership in a prestigious country club. So, black people either cannot or have a harder time:
1) Renting. If they can't get a house or apartment where do they all live? On the pavement? In the park? Not that I've ever seen. It wouldn't be because someone has a poor credit score or has a history of not paying rent? Couldn't be any of those? What about the one's who already live in a house/apartment? How'd they get there? Squatters rights?
2) Getting loans. Then how are they driving vehicles or living in a house? Have they stolen them? Or is it because someone doesn't meet the criteria for getting the loan like credit score, work history, income too small, or not enough in savings or collateral?
3) Finding jobs. Then how are they getting their needs met? I don't see the starvation in the US like I saw in Ethiopia on my TV screen back in the 80's. It couldn't be because one doesn't meet the requirements for that job, i.e. education, etc?
4) Walking through a neighborhood. Why can't they walk through a neighborhood they live in? Stuck in their house due to Covid? Why would anyone get suspicious of someone not from that neighborhood who is just walking around it is beyond me. Wonder if blacks who live in an all black neighborhood ever even bother to look out their window if a white man in a Brooks Brothers suit rolls up in their neighborhood? Get suspicious? Nah... see it all the time.
5) Getting pulled over by the police. It couldn't be that if they aren't at the local donut shop, they tend to hang out in high crime areas? The police only pull over the poor black kid walking through Golden Estates but not the white kid coming out of a known or suspected crack house?
6) Getting into private school. Yeah... saw a show on that. Public school was so terrible the private school had so many applications but limited number of entries they had to draw numbers out of a bingo machine at random. Most public schools are garbage; some worse than others.
7) Looking at confederate monuments. The answer couldn't be "don't look at it" then? I once saw a bunch of billboards years ago heading to the beach for "Pedros". Lots of em. Intrigued me to say the least. Stopped in - huge disappointment. The next time I went through, paid no attention to the billboards and passed Pedros right up. Never felt like I had to tear down the billboards or burn Pedros to the ground because of my disappointment.
8) Voting. Then how does a Democrat ever get into office? How did Barack Obama become President not once but twice? How do we have black governors, senators, representatives, state reps and senators, cabinet members, mayors, council members, and police leaders if black people are denied the vote?

To think, all these years of my life I could have lived it up in Trump Tower with Donald and Ivanka (yum) even though I couldn't pay for it just because I'm not black. Shoot, I could have just gone to the bank and borrowed the money even though I couldn't possibly pay it back so I could live in Trump Towers with Ivanka. I could have squeezed my way in to Ivanka's life by drawing plans for huge skyscrapers even though I'm not an architect. Who would notice, right? All that matters is I'm not black. To add, nobody would even notice me lurking around Ivanka's apartment. Security? Secret Service? Local police? Nah... he's ok... he's not black. Sadly though, my number too was never drawn to get into a fine private school. Plus, couldn't afford it. But if I had, Ivanka and I would be living it up in the lap of luxury in Trump Towers right now. Well, after we went and camped out under the Confederate monument a couple of towns over. So much to see there. So much excitement. Hard to find room, spots are booked years in advance. After our extended vacation under Confederate Jim we'd then go vote. Pass everyone in line cause that's how we roll. We're white!

All these years of toil and troubles...and no Ivanka to show for it. If I'd only known about all the privileges I'd had.

Oh well, I'm off to DC/Trump Towers to find my Ivanka and live my life of privilege. I may need a good lawyer, you know any? I have years of pent up anger and I don't feel like any of this was my responsibility. Certainly not the results of my choices. The deck was stacked against me because no one bothered to tell me about my white privilege. Always keeping me down. Keeping me away from my Ivanka! Laws? Rules? Who needs them! I see discrimination everywhere. All these years... c'mon man! So, I'm off to see Ivanka... but first I've got some Pedro signs I've got to topple and burn.
