There's been a lot of concern on this board about "when is this going to end?" "The players are in charge now!"
I think this situation answers that question. Like many things in life it takes someone making a mistake and going overboard to bring everything back into alignment. This TCU player over played his hand and hopefully learned a good lesson.
At this point I'm sure most players clearly know that airing frustrations on social media brings about a whole set of other problems that will not be worth dealing with outside of very extreme situations.
These things have a way of naturally finding a resting point. We're seeing it here already.
If you want to see the depths of hypocrisy, look no further than the anti-abortion protesters who just got arrested for writing in CHALK.How? The coach had to apologize for correcting a player for using the exact word he used? Are we in kindergarten...coaches have to speak in code now. I guess the coach not being fired is a victory? If this is the new normal, we are doomed as a society...
Don't see TCU getting rid of the best coach they've had since Dutch Meyer in the 1930s.
TCU is old Texas money...and a religious school (not that it matters), their boosters are rolling their eyes about this.

Rioting is OK. Destruction is OK. Attacking the police is OK. Writing BLM on everything without a permit is OK. Arson is OK. Molotov cocktails are OK. Violence is OK.
Writing in chalk about pre-born Black Lives Matter is criminal.
That was a mockery of justice. It's funny, but I have been hanging on the off topic board because sports is getting boring...and now the OT board is where all sports discussion will be moving forward...I guess I'm ahead of the curve....
I was talking to another AD at another school. I asked him what he would allow on the jerseys of the school...he could not answer, but it make it very clear that the school will not spend a penny in buying or putting anything other than the name of the player on their jersey.

There is good news.
The double standards are going to get sorted out soon enough.
I'd never choose a short-term "win" for long-term (and that's putting it mildly) loss.

Until the funding - from those who disagree - dries up. Good luck finding a free education in the future.
Yes...we are doomed as a society because we are all being asked to respect each others opinions and feelings. Oh the horror!!!
The endless bellyaching on this board/thread is a great example of the very softiosis you claim to dislike.
I never claimed anything...I am for "equality for all"...now we have a whole vocabulary that can only be used by a certain ethnic group...if a non "place ethnic group here" use one of those words...you can lose you livelihood...does it feel like we are making progress?

Can you supply a link? don't know what that is.

If you can't see the fact that no word in our society is as uniquely controversial as the n word you're blind.
Projecting this situation as a huge societal issue is alarmist. There is no other word like that word.
No other word in the history of a society can be used to describe:
On the flip side, anyone not included in the specific ethnic group cannot repeat the word even if they are quoting someone (of that ethnic group) that used that word and is violation of team rules. There are famous poems and songs that contain that word and only one ethnic group can ever sing it or repeat it....if this is not a slippery slope for society, I don't know what is.

Hey, why don’t you take all this energy that you put into saying the same things over and over but in cryptic and witty ways and focus on something similar......like the drug and opioid death rate in WV being twice as high as any other state in this country, but with a population of only 1.8 million. White population is 94% so why don’t you focus on this same exact problem where you live instead of handing out advice to people who live in much different environments.....
White people are killing themselves at a huge rate in West Virginia......
I will say this, the new BOD member for WVU was in charge of the opioid task force that included WV, lets hope she gets it under control.
Well...if black folks didn't suffer from 250 years of slavery, legislated discrimination, Jim Crow laws, red lining and good old fashioned racism i might agree with you.
The experience of blacks in America has been uniquely terrible...I'm going to give them a little wiggle room on the n word.
If there's a slippery slope it's on the road to equality. And its historicaly been greased by us white folks.
WVU did it to the best DC we have had in a long time. I'm sorry that was an agreed to separation.Don't see TCU getting rid of the best coach they've had since Dutch Meyer in the 1930s.
Agreed, the Democratic party has really hurt them...that being said, many minorities don't agree with how some are representing them...and it's not wiggle room...it's trying to take someone's career away for repeating a word that the person used....against team policy.
"Agreed, the Democratic party has really hurt them"
If this is where you need to go...ignoring the last 60 years...you're no longer debating in good faith.
My main point still stands. While this specific situation has elements of irony and hypocrisy your point that it symbolizes an existential problem for the nation at large is not true.
As a nation we are still working toward a more perfect union and these situations are all part of this process we have the responsibility to continue.
In my mind we need to be more concerned about righting historical wrongs than getting hung up on these relatively small issues.
Most sane people are.
The Left is not sane.
