1) A big thank you for your service, 2) Would you rather they not be afforded those freedoms?

I thought I was clear... ...I’m proud they have those freedoms.

I’m also proud I have the freedom to not give two-***** about the people, or the ‘movement’ they support, if I perceive them as personally disrespectful....and they’re action in regard to our national anthem is just that (to me)...

Thank you for your post. Truly enlightening. Isn’t that what this forum is for to cover a “silly *** game” as you would put it?
Actually no. This is a WV sports board. And If this BS hate America cancel cultural Marxist BS makes its way here, to WVU, piss on the Mountaineers too. What say you?

Because Americans want to return to watch the NBA and MLB..... they have no honor?
You and others with that same mindset have completely lost it.
It’s just ignorance, brother. People don’t think like them so “they should have their *** kicked”. Just keyboard posers.

I specifically heard Barkley the other night say the opposite. Really liked his take. Said is just fine and shouldn’t be questioned in the least. I would/do stand for the anthem and I’m proud to do it. Otherwise, I’m over it. Do it or don’t. More action, less talk.
That’s one guy. He’s in the extreme minority among national talking heads.

Actually...I was going to mention the black (openly) armed groups at the BLM ‘protests’ proudly taking advantage of their second amendment rights. Good for them.

...but to you they’re the ‘more crazy crazies’...

The only people armed at any protests are the Boogaloo boys looking to start that race war they're so excited about.

And thank you for your service but I can't agree that kneeling during the anthem is like spitting in your face. Sorry you choose to see it that way.

The constitution you defended as a service member assures the right to peaceful protest. I'm sure you're strong enough to handle seeing a silent peaceful protest.

Protesting/not protesting, COVID, etc.., I was expecting numbers to be down. Watching NBA Lakers vs Clippers the other night and it wasn't close to the energy brought by fans at the game. It just felt like a pickup game at the park with basically no fans. I would expect lower numbers for all sports. What's the ratings been like for PGA, UFC, etc....?
That's it for me as well. It's like summer league or something. There is no energy. Baseball is the same. It's not much fun without having the fans there.

I’m proud to live in a country where people have those rights, no matter how much I disagree with some of their actions, and I genuinely thank you for defending those freedoms.

Dan Bongino, that’s a name I haven’t seen in ages. Blocked him on twitter so I could save brain cells when people retweeted him. Nothing but a right wing extremist. Twitter becoming unbearable with left wing and right wing extremists. Both are so damn annoying
And you likely nothing more than a left wing Marxist Democrat extremist. And you have no idea how annoying you are. Makes people think very bad thoughts.

The majority of our country is coming to understand what a peaceful protect is and
what it means to kneel during the anthem. If it upsets you that much to see players
kneel during the anthem, either don't watch the game, or don't watch the anthem.

It’s fine you disagree with my analogy...but there was more to the point than my feelings.

You’re regurgitating what I already wrote...I hardly need you to explain what my military service was all about...

Your ignorance regarding armed black militias at protests is concerning..if only because it shows you’re out of touch with the movement (and it’s supporters) you seem to back.

Ultimately what many have an issue with is what exactly are they protesting? I still haven’t seen someone give a clear explanation how not standing for the anthem is equated to any of the issues they want to bring to light. Do black lives matter? Of course they do! But what does kneeling during the anthem have anything to do with that? The anthem was written by someone who owned slaves and our original flag was made by someone who owned them. Is that it? Certainly they don’t suggest the flag and the anthem itself have anything to do with racism. The song is about seeing the flag flying high in the midst of adversity. The flag it self has 50 stars and 13 stripes to represent the unity of our states and former colonies. I just don’t get it. I don’t get upset if someone kneels. I understand it’s their prerogative. It just doesn’t make sense.

I never cared for the nba game before and don’t now. Does not have a single thing to do with the crap that is going on today, although that does not help things at all. The nba back in the 80s and 90s was a much different and better game. Same goes for the 70s. Today’s game may have some of the best athletes in the world but it’s not even real basketball. The college game is so much better. The nba playoffs add a little more to it but I’m sorry I don’t care for layup drills or dunks or wide open shots when defenders could care less if they get out on a guy or fight thru a screen.

You’re walking down the street and a person goes out of their way to spit a lougee in your face. That person then suggest that you participate in a friendly open minded discussion about the ‘why’.

....will anything constructive/productive come out of that situation?

...while successful gaining your attention are the odds much lower (If at all) that you’ll be understanding of their original motivation than if they used a more respectful (even if still inconvenient/annoying) method of gaining attention?

————

In my case, as first a patriotic American and second as a military veteran...kneeling,turning their back, etc... ..during our national anthem is the same as spitting in my face. I understand it’s their right and I understand I joined the military to support their rights....but I refuse to respect the opinions of those that go out of their way to be purposely disrespectful to me (yes, I take it as a personal insult).

Also former military. I just don't give a damn if people kneel or not. It didn't bother me when Colin did it. It doesn't bother me when everyone is doing it.

I get your side too. It really comes down to how people want to view it. I just won't let some gesture impact me.

You don’t even know what Marxism even means. And people like you is why I support abortion. This world would be better off without fools like you. In my post, I clearly stated that both sides are equally annoying and then you call me left extremist because I’m a centrist. Go rub one out to the American Flag. I support them kneeling just to watch you weep yourself to sleep

I have a feeling college sports, if it happens, it going to be a lot less thrilling.

To be honest, NBA with a bubble in Florida, will probably make it through the season. Other team sports like NFL, CF, CB, MLB, etc... will have a lot of issues. It's going to impact results or potential shutdown(s).

They have a message. Some will agree. Some (like you) won’t. I think the NBA message has been over the top but it hasn’t stopped me from watching.

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out 12-24 months from now with the league’s popularity, tv ratings and, ultimately, ad/subscription revenue. I’m not a huge NBA fan so I don’t pay for it, besides what’s on nightly. MLB, I always get the subscription. On a side note, my 21 year old is a huge NBA fan and he has watched a ton. The interesting thing, to me, is he hasn’t mentioned the protests, slogans, etc. one single time. Just excited for the games.

I'm not the biggest NBA fan (I only like the playoffs) and ditto for Baseball (I only care about the LCS and late season pennant races). I think plenty of folks just have found other diversions during the Sports drought, and most just don't care for the politics when they come to watch Sports hoping to avoid all of that!

I also just personally find it amusing Black millionaires find themselves "mistreated" in a racist country that doesn't appreciate their athletic talent nor fairly compensates them for it?

I mean really?

Do you ever remember watching the Harlem Globetrotters vs the Washington Generals (or whatever that bogus team was they played)?

I peeked in on a couple of those early NBA games, and that was what it immediately reminded me of. It just wasn't quality basketball, and looked "phony" or "staged" to me....just like those old Globetrotters games.

Just as an aside I often wondered as a kid how those opposing Globetrotter teams got their players? Who were those goofy Zebras they had as officials? Did the Globetrotters ever play anyone else? Were those games fixed?

Asking myself the same things about the NBA.

Sad.

So, I'm assuming that if you are blaming the low ratings on BLM and protests and kneeling, then it's also fair game to use the low economic numbers to blame Trump? Right?

How did Trump cause low economic numbers? What did he do analogous to BLM protests featuring violence & physical assaults against people and personal property?

You missed my point. I'm suggesting the lower ratings has little to do with the kneeling or protesting, and much more to do with this stupid "virus" and the fact that millions are finding other things to do now that they don't have a job, a vacation.......well....a life now.

OK....that makes sense...not blaming Trump for our voluntary economic shutdown in response to a so called "pandemic". A pandemic I personally believe did NOT require the US economy to shut down.

I think people look for it way to much. I'm a huge Oriole fan, (yes one of the few who still admits it), and I haven't seen anyone kneel since the first game and that was in solidarity prior to the anthem, they stood for the anthem. I just get so frustrated that people still to this day in our country doesn't respect the first amendment and by that I mean the protection of being able to say or do something that isn't a threat to your personal safety or well being. Would I personally kneel for the anthem, no, but I have no ill will for them doing it. I educate myself on why they do it and understand their point of view. We can go back over several issues over the years and people were up in arms when it happened and then it becomes a non issue once it becomes more accepting- gay marriage is a perfect example of how things have changed in the last decade. No one says you have to like it, but do you really need to hate someone for it and refuse to never watch again. I know my father and I have no common ground on politics but I love him even though we don't come close to agreeing on anything.
