The articles I read appears to be very strong for baseball. I have watched a lot and saw very little ‘protesting’. Maybe, I missed all of the excitement. NBA has been a lot more vocal for sure.
Beats me. Seems like a lot out there from Wall Street Journal, etc. on ratings increases for MLB. I know I have watched a bunch and love having baseball back.
If a player stands for the anthem, it’s now a story and he’s forced to give a reason why he’s standing. That is mind boggling to me, and just casually dismissed by a large segment of folks.
The article you posted only referenced the first game ratings which the OP did as well. The point he’s making is the ratings fell off dramatically after those first games and they are trying to make it about the protesting. Maybe it is or maybe it isn’t. Personally I know I watched the first MLB game because it was the only one on. But I’m not watching the Yankees ever if the Reds are on, and I’m sure most people who are fans of specific teams are the same way. It’s really hard to judge baseball ratings because of that. The NBA only has 4-5 games per night normally and even less with the bubble going on. If their ratings are down that would be something a little more concerning.

I happened upon an NBA game the other night. BLM pasted actoss the length of the floor. That pretty much ended my seven seconds of viewership.
Protesting/not protesting, COVID, etc.., I was expecting numbers to be down. Watching NBA Lakers vs Clippers the other night and it wasn't close to the energy brought by fans at the game. It just felt like a pickup game at the park with basically no fans. I would expect lower numbers for all sports. What's the ratings been like for PGA, UFC, etc....?
Love the NBA but I only watch for basketball not for politics. The games so far have been excellent & the NBA deserves credit for appropriately handling the virus better than all else including the government of this country. Nba never once panicked or blindly cancelled all. They knew about all this & had a plan before the US government did & were among the earliest organizations to test. What they've put together in Orlando is pretty amazing I think & I appreciate that they are giving people a sports outlet again even in a global pandemic.
They have a message. Some will agree. Some (like you) won’t. I think the NBA message has been over the top but it hasn’t stopped me from watching.
Will be interesting to see how this shakes out 12-24 months from now with the league’s popularity, tv ratings and, ultimately, ad/subscription revenue. I’m not a huge NBA fan so I don’t pay for it, besides what’s on nightly. MLB, I always get the subscription. On a side note, my 21 year old is a huge NBA fan and he has watched a ton. The interesting thing, to me, is he hasn’t mentioned the protests, slogans, etc. one single time. Just excited for the games.
Yea I ignore the politics of it. Politics is not my cup of tea anyway. Just glad to be watching sports.
I specifically heard Barkley the other night say the opposite. Really liked his take. Said is just fine and shouldn’t be questioned in the least. I would/do stand for the anthem and I’m proud to do it. Otherwise, I’m over it. Do it or don’t. More action, less talk.

In my case, as first a patriotic American and second as a military veteran...kneeling,turning their back, etc... ..during our national anthem is the same as spitting in my face. I understand it’s their right and I understand I joined the military to support their rights....but I refuse to respect the opinions of those that go out of their way to be purposely disrespectful to me (yes, I take it as a personal insult).

Actually...I was going to mention the black (openly) armed groups at the BLM ‘protests’ proudly taking advantage of their second amendment rights. Good for them.
