Not ironic to me. She is a great player and was clearly the best player in the cup matches. I watched every USA game and did see every player mouthing the words and I also saw every player AND coach holding their hand over their hearts during the anthem. But....she made it clear that she was protesting.....I don't believe any other player or coach said that. Do you know of any other player or coach who said they were protesting?
I saw players neither singing or mouthing the words during games. Go back and check if you would like. Some players are lost in thought before games. Why are people worked up over this? Athletes in most sports don’t sing. She is anti Trump and people are giving her a hard time for just standing there. I personally am leery of a “walking protest “. I just believe that a lot of people have gone way overboard about her.

Politics affect us all.
Unfortunately, and I'm so f*&king tired of it. A bunch big babies running around like kids on a playground wanting their way and when they don't get it, they take their ball and go home. Very much over all the crap. The scary part is that I'm a government and US history teacher and I've become sick of it. I try to avoid it like the plaque nowadays because both sides have lost touch with reality.

I don't dislike her, but she has chosen to make this political. I also think politics need to be kept out of sports, and for that matter, pretty much our everyday lives.
She's had a fairly rough time in her personal life (her brother's problems, primarily) and seems rather angry with life in general at this point. Angry people will lash out at anyone who state opinions which differ with their own. The premise that Trump is anti-gay is not accurate, and I don't even believe that is why she is angry with him. He is outspoken, just like she is, and you've got two personalities who often don't show much judgment or class in their public statements. Both of them feel the need to complain openly about things they don't like and prefer to do it very publicly. Both of them also get crucified to continue to do so, but being the mega egos involved with both of them, they will continue to just that. Finally, both of them are very good at accomplishing their goals. So, in that respect, I admire her and our president for having the courage to do just that. Controversial, historical, and accomplished.

She chose her path. Now she is complaining that the prize for winning the womens cup is less than winning the mens cup. She looks for trouble and wants to be a victim when she finds it.

Not political, she has chosen to use her stage as a way to fight for things she believes in, the true definition of a patriot. Remember, this initially started with her as a way to protest what she believed to be unlawful brutality against African Americans but since then has turned into a prolific fight for Women’s Right to Choose, Equal and Fair Pay for Women and the Right to live as a lesbian woman free from hate and bigotry.....this is what she is fighting for......

As for the Donald, he ordered ALL US Embassies throughout the world to NOT recognize Pride Month, quite a few Ambasadors rebelled and did so anyway. A man who has a documented history of misogyny against women and has blown a clear dog whistle of support to the states to banish women’s rights to choose.....

Most men will never understand or care about any of these things.....but she is speaking to the women of this country, the women of this country will be the ones to make changes to our future....

Different President.....Now your'e getting it. Trump has NEVER been anti LGBTQ.
That is a blatant, bold, outright lie. He is very much anti LGBTQ and minorities. His actions speak very loudly on the subject. He has literally gone out of his way to make life harder for them and take away basic rights that they fought very hard to get.

The article states the flag was flown at embassies. Just not on the official embassy flagpoles. So they honored them in June, just not enough to make social justice warriors happy.

Because of Trumps orders not to do so, but numerous embassies did so anyhow. Truth.

I respect you as a poster and I won’t go down this path with you, but from a generational perspective, this country is breaking a part before our eyes....

Different President/ administration with different approaches to LGBTQ rights
Is that a fact? Has this administration even remotely addressed anything with LGBTQ in any way? I sure as hell haven’t seen it.

One of my favorite things about this President is that we aren’t focusing on the special interest group issues. When was the last time we had a “what bathroom should we bake a cake in?

I could go on and on. Every chance he gets he tries to remove basic human rights that every person in this great country deserves. He is against anyone who is not a rich white person. And if you want me to prove that too, simply use the old Google machine and spend the next week or two reading up on the man. Information and knowledge should not be a about left or right. Knowledge is a good thing.

Agree that most athletes don't sing OR put their hands over their hearts,I didn't and I still don't as a fan......BUT......maybe it's a tradition for the soccer teams to do it. However....she is the ONLY one on our team that did not have their hand on their heart......she did before and she has publicly stated that she would not comply as a protest.

No. The rule was clear. Embassies could honor them in June. They could not use the official poles.

The country is at a crossroads because the media has decided that politics is more important than the truth and too many people believe everything they are told.

This is not personal. Just my thoughts and opinions. I respect you and yours as well.

Since when is it disrespectful to not put your hand over your heart and not sing the National Anthem. I have never sung the anthem but I always stand and turn to the flag. Am I being disrespectful by not doing that? I put my hand over my heart for the pledge of allegiance but put my hands behind my back for the anthem. Its what my father always taught me to do and I've always done that. My father taught us that the hand goes over the heart for the pledge and you lock your hands behind your back for the anthem, btw he was in the military.
I’m going to guess that when she made a point to say she was going to protest by doing so.

Dude I simply picked the first few that came up. None of this is a secret if just look. It's all a matter of record. You can see the amount of times he has or has tried to take away rights from them. Just do you're own research. The man lies. He does it all the time. But its public record, if you want to have a stance on something be informed about it.

No official pole, but all the hidden ones are good.

Thereby sending an official message to the world that the US Government no longer supports the advancement and human rights of the LGBTQ community.....same thing, technical difference. The world watches us and we set the pace....message received!

Wrong....

BERLIN — The Trump administration is launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of homosexuality in dozens of nations where it's still illegal to be gay, U.S. officials tell NBC News, a bid aimed in part at denouncing Iran over its human rights record.

U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration, is leading the effort, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Berlin. The U.S. embassy is flying in LGBT activists from across Europe for a strategy dinner to plan to push for decriminalization in places that still outlaw homosexuality — mostly concentrated in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.
“It is concerning that, in the 21st century, some 70 countries continue to have laws that criminalize LGBTI status or conduct,” said a U.S. official involved in organizing the event.

With all do respect, keep telling yourself that so you can sleep better at night.

The economy and jobs have never been controlled by any President and never will be...they only benefit or are sacrificed because of it....this country and the world as a whole is ruled by a few, “special interest groups” and until we as a people understand that and stand behind each other, it will be more of the same....

Disliking the President is fine. She is the one who inserted her politics into the sport, as part of the national team.

I am glad the girls won. Had they lost she would have been thrown under the bus and the bus would have been backed up over her.
