Why must we politicize everything nowadays? Can't we just do or watch something and take politics out of it. Geez, for the love God just enjoy life. Life is way to short for this kind of ********. Sports is/are supposed to be the one thing that brings people together in this country we don't want to ruin that too.

Lol ... She could stand for the national anthem and play the game without the political theater. Then after winning the game hold a press conference stating she loved representing our country however here are some of my grievances I would like to see us work on. I'm not a public relations guru but I believe my idea would be mo better. [thumbsup]

Peak Boomer in this post.
I am a Boomer and consider the original post to be narrow minded. We can celebrate being Americans in different ways. Even by protesting. No one has the sole means of celebrating this country.

Sorry Gooch, disagree. I know too many people that have died too young fighting for our freedom and our flag. NO ONE.....and I mean NO ONE has the right to disrespect it if you live in this country. Go elsewhere and do what you want but not on this land. It's time to get our country back.

We still look like the better team. The Dutch goalie can't keep it up. I do wish Alex Morgan would stop flopping so much...she's much more dangerous when she keeps her feet.

Yes I am narrow minded when it comes to the USA. She is representing our country and if she can't do that with respect, then represent another flag.

People respect the flag in different ways. If you don’t understand that I can’t help you. Not every player sings or puts their hand over their hearts. Check out WVU athletes if you don’t believe me.

One of the greatest quotes of all time- "I do not agree with what you have to say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it" Voltaire. Which means unfortunately I don't agree with you but you can say it, it also means that while I may not agree with her way of protesting I defend her ability to do it. Freedom of Speech is a basic right and when we have people who defend this country with their life, they are defending our rights used both in ways we agree or disagree with. You can't defend the ones you believe in but disagree with the ones you don't. We have Constitutional rights not only to protect the rights of the majority but also protect the rights of the minority- called majority rule with minority rights, one of our basic values and principles of American democracy. And by the way my father was in the military so I'm not looking at this from one side.

Totally agree on our freedom of speech rights, but once you put on any type of uniform representing the USA you should respect what it stands for. When a military man, etc., puts on that uniform, he represents the USA. She is wearing USA on her uniform and, therefore, should respect it. Kapernick, etc. disrespected our flag but he was not representing the USA. She is! JMO but it is a very strong one!!!

When Veterans who have served this country come out and support people's right to protest the anthem then that's fine by me. You can love the country but still protest.

and this thinking is exactly why our great nation is at a breaking point...we as a people and one nation under god have put party and personal beliefs above those provided to us by the laws of god and man.

Anyone can go to Walmart to buy an American flag shirt and make comments like this on a message board....for me, I believe it takes a much stronger American who loves her country to take her stage to fight for what she believes is right, takes pride and guts and heart to take on the perception of being disloyal and un-American....bravery! I guarantee you that there are more women who respect her than who feel this way....

It’s god bless America...not god bless the Republican Party....

FYI: This is not about being Republican or Democrat, It's about respecting a country we all love. And God is always capitalized so that should really tick you off.

An All American performance by Rapinoe and the U.S. team. She plays 78 minutes with a bad hamstring and scores the winning goal. An outstanding way to represent our country. I hope that the OP and everyone else enjoyed the game. Root for the men’s team in the Gold Cup final tonight.

Yes.... she stood......she was ordered to stand by the USA soccer association. However....she made a point that she would "protest" by not putting her hand over her heart or sing ....as EVERY other member of the team did during the playing of the anthem. She also has stated she would not visit the White House in protest of how some are treated in this country......I really find that to be funny because she did visit the WH when they last won the cup and I'm fairly certain those same issues were present 4 years ago. She got all bent out of shape when President Trump said he did not agree with her anthem stance......as he had every right to express his opinion on the subject.

No......but Trump was not at the games when the our anthem was played. I seriously doubt very few in France in attendance or watching had a clue as why she did what she did.

I watched all of their games and every player did NOT sing. Just like athletes in most sports don’t sing. Check out WVU athletes during the anthem. She dislikes Trump and doesn’t want to visit the White House. Who cares. Her being the tournaments outstanding player is ironic though. Don’t you think?

Not ironic to me. She is a great player and was clearly the best player in the cup matches. I watched every USA game and did see every player mouthing the words and I also saw every player AND coach holding their hand over their hearts during the anthem. But....she made it clear that she was protesting.....I don't believe any other player or coach said that. Do you know of any other player or coach who said they were protesting?

She loves America
I don't know what's in her heart and neither do you. I don't hate her matter of fact I was cheering for her and the team to win. I do know this if she stands and shows respect then she has a better chance of winning people over to her causes.

Since when is it disrespectful to not put your hand over your heart and not sing the National Anthem. I have never sung the anthem but I always stand and turn to the flag. Am I being disrespectful by not doing that? I put my hand over my heart for the pledge of allegiance but put my hands behind my back for the anthem. Its what my father always taught me to do and I've always done that. My father taught us that the hand goes over the heart for the pledge and you lock your hands behind your back for the anthem, btw he was in the military.
