Getting an appointment to a military academy in the early 80's (as I don't know if things have changed or not), it was a ton of red tape. Probably not surprising. Prior to your senator recommending the appointment, you had to go through what is like a pre qualification. Part of that was a medical examination. I don't think it is the same as when one enlist or not. But I went to my pediatrician as a junior in high school and he of course knew of my condition. He plainly told me and my mother he would not sign it and advised if he did, I would most likely fail the real one. I was niave and had no clue my issue would keep me from a military career. I was disappointed like never before and we decided as a family not to try any longer for the appointment. I wrote Sen Randolph a letter taking myself out of consideration and thanked him.

I later applied to WVU with no other thought of going anywhere else.

Nathan Phillips lied about his military service. Shame, Shame Shame on that no good for nothing liberal.

Sorry you were never able to fulfill your desire to serve your country. West Point will only take the cream of the crop, I know because my nephew went to West Point. I also know that I did not have to take a physical when I was taking AF ROTC at WVU. I also am aware that the list of physical issues that will keep someone from serving is almost endless if they want to avoid service. I also know,as Dog laid it out, that if someone really wants to get into the military.....they can circumvent the physical if necessary. Do you have problem with everyone that avoided service OR only President Donald Trump? That's the real issue......correct?

I thought I made it clear in a post I have nothing to say about what Trump did. I have never posted an opinion on the subject other than the post saying I resent being compared to him as I was trying to get in and he was attempting to stay out. I didn't criticize his actions but our situations are not comparable.

My problem was the attempt of redefining the well known phrase of "draft dodger".

On the larger subject of individuals attempting to get out of serving through the draft during the Vietnam war, everyone has their own story. I try not to judge others with these type of things. I am not always successful though.

My opinion on attempting to do whatever to not serve in Vietnam is the same regardless who it is, including Trump. I respect and honor all that did serve and I try to do that in a positive manner. If those individuals that did serve have a problem with those that "dodged" it, I can certainly understand it.

The safety another aspects of their future has been severly compromised by the premature and inappropriate threats and other dialog that has been so prevalent. Sad and so very disgusting!
