They look like *** tonight but they were playing much better when we would have played them, earlier in the season. Still not sure how the game would have gone but even if we had beat them, I'm not sure it would help our current or future playoff ranking any.

If we played them now we probably win. Play them then toss up because we knew nothing about them.

NC State never was playing better or good. They just didn’t play anybody with a pulse. They are another weak horrible ACC team. WVU would put 50 points on them easy. NC State is done. Lost to Wake Forest lol....that’s bad. ACC is a joke.

So you are comparing Wake Forest D to ours?
Bravo.........Bravo. idiot

Have you looked at the statistical averages?

You should, especially before throwing insults.

WVU’s pass defense is below average, statistically, and Finley is an NFL QB as exemplified last night with another 375 yard performance

WVU defense gets 3-and-out 1 out of 3 possession. That's not exactly chopped liver. Puts the other team's defense on the field too long which helps Grier & friends.

M agnificent Grier passes shredded Tennessee, 40-14

O verhelmed drenched Youngstown, 52-17

U nable to play North Carolina State because of Hurricane Florence

N asty defense against Kansas State, 35-6

and here comes the standard "Gibson is a WV boy, and gosh that's just alright" defense.......

meanwhile in actual facts:

Gibson's defense in 2018:

Total Yards Allowed - 25th but missing 1 whole game's worth of yardage
Yards per Game allowed - 49th
Points allowed - 24th but missing 1 whole game's worth of yardage
Points per Game allowed -35th
Passing yards allowed - 44th but missing 1 whole game's worth of yardage
Passing yards per game allowed - 70th
Rushing yards allowed - 22nd but missing 1 whole game's worth of yardage
Rushing yards per game allowed - 36th

our defense is averaging 68 defensive plays a game this season, giving up a 1st down on 3rd downs at just under 40% rate..... doesn't sound bad until you see that our defense gives up a first down on 56% of 4th downs too....

if you add NC State's season average for yards/game, passing yards/game and rushing yards/game (to simulate the WVU game actually occurring) then this defense would rank:

total yards allowed - 53rd
points allowed - 40th
passing yards allowed - 85th
rushing yards allowed - 36th

maybe. But our secondary would give up a lot..........

Our pass defense is 70th in the nation right now.

NC St's passing attack is ranked 9th in America in total yards............. and 8th in yards/game

I won't argue that NC State would move the ball but I think WVU would handle them rather easily.

I've been wrong before, though.

Really just stop with the trolling. Because you did not get the attention you thought you deserved in another thread, you had to cut and paste those posts into this thread that has nothing to do with your posts. I have never posted positive or negative about Gibson. You can post what ever you want and it will not upset me. To me you are the prototypical Pitt troll. Nothing more or less. By the way, what did you think of Wesco's performance against UT?

providing stats =/= trolling...........
Re-posting stats that are irrelevant to the OP, with the purpose of generating angry responses is trolling. Why cut and paste that here? Because you are trolling and have no clue about being subtle. So what about Wesco? You have trashed this kid all season when ever he took a miss step but are strangely quite after the UT game. LOL

The strange thing about stats: They don't tell the full story the way the eyeball test does.

Against Texas, for example, the numbers in a 42-41 game don't look good for either team.

But Gibby's defense had TWO great stops inside the 10 with the outcome hanging in the balance. It came through at crucial times.

It stopped another Longhorn drive short by inches.

It did better in the 2nd half than in the 1st half, which means it improved against one of 3 best QBs in the Big 12.

I don't say that because Gibby is a "West Virginia guy." I say that because it happened. When the chips were down, Gibby's guys and Grier and friends together helped save the day.

But those who have other agendas will always point to anything that they think supports their bias.

I will pray for their hate-filled souls.

The eyeball test lacks validation for the eyeballs

And speaking of “context”

On one drive, the only thing that stopped Texas was a chin strap

Something that isn’t contextual....

Texas’ QB is not one of the three best in the B12

Murray - Ok
Grier - WVU
Cornelius - OSU
Bowman - TTU

all in the top 15 in CFB

We all know how bad NC State is and was. WVU would have blown them away. Football in NC sucks. Pro and college football in NC suck. The Stillers proved that last night. A couple crappy NC teams getting exposed badly. Dump trucked!!!!!

Ok. Never argued that

Then what were you arguing? The OP was about regretting not getting a shot at NCSU since they have not played great all season and looks to have been a good chance to pick up a win. Seems you make a nebulous statement that you do not tie into the OP conversation. When it ruffles feathers, you still do not clarify but rather argue smugly about semantics. Honestly, all you had to do was just say what you meant rather than reeling when your statement gets a bite. Makes it pretty obvious that smugly arguing is your goal.
