Excellent point
Take care of your business.
People in general should follow that motto.
Don't worry about anyone and never place blame on anything.
Since a football program is a collection of men any program with dreams and desires of winning a NC should understand this.
All true. But, the playoff committee renders winning any power or lesser conference meaningless. If a conference championship does not earn a team the right to keep playing, GET RID OF CONFERENCES - all those little anachronistic fiefdoms that exist merely to preen, posture and drain millions of salary dollars for...NOTHING. Does each NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL division have or need a millionaire commissioner and bloated staff? Conferences are now arbitrary associations seemingly destined to exist in perpetuity, solely to extract maximum dollars even though the old paradigm is long gone. Texas made its own ESPN deal. Why does it need conference membership? Only because custom demands illusory conference fealty.
College football needs to ensure teams a chance to win a playoff berth on the field without going undefeated or being a blueblood/desirable/marketable media darling. How many undefeated Super Bowl champs have there been? How many 6- or more loss wild card champs? Didn't Marshall have 3 losses during an AA championship year? Was it mocked as 'undeserved'? The BCS structure DID make winning a conference title meaningful. But alas, the Herbstreits of the world publicly and ceaselessly decried the early elimination of too many bluebloods, frothing to see BCS rematches of Ohio State-Michigan and Alabama-LSU, rather than an undesirable, 'unworthy' Big East champ such as West Virginia. Never mind that WVU went 3-0 in the BCS, beating the SEC, ACC and Big 12 champs...the notion of winning on the field was far too dangerous, and could not be allowed to stand. Why should not the winner of a blueblood REMATCH be declared champion? Who cares if its victim had won the first meeting! That's ancient history - what is important is that two hypeable teams got on prime time TWICE!
The NCAA needs only 1 football commissioner, divisions, non-division games selected by computer/power rankings and a sensible, limited playoff structure. Get conference and shill talking head politics OUT of determining who gets a shot to be champion. The committee concept sucks, by definition.
