So John Delaney, a representative from the Maryland 6th District, has decided to seek the Dem nomination for President in 2020. I heard an interview with him today. He sounds reasonable, willing to compromise, not ideological.

In the interview his bio was discussed. He has blue collar roots, was a successful businessman prior to entering politics, and got good grades on bipartisanship. He didn't go into a ton of details, but his big selling points to me were infrastructure and preparing us for the economic shifts that come with improved technologies.

In short, he sounds reasonable, so I'm sure he's doomed as a candidate. Maybe he's someone to keep an eye on though.

Delaney is rumored to be personally worth around $100 million.
That's how much Trump lost this year.

He'll never get through the Democrat primaries sounding that reasonable. Ask Bernie Sanders....he played to the base and they (party leadership) STILL railroaded him! Now those folks (Bernie burners) have taken over the Dem party and want a pay back. This guy sounds too sane for today's activist Socialist Left. He doesn't even have TDS.

Well...looks like he knows how to do something.......

In May 2017, Chris Matthews (host of MSNBC's program Hardball and the husband of Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews) said that Delaney had set-up an office in Maryland that he speculated might be for a presidential run. At the time, Delaney's office denied this speculation. Later that month, he himself declared, "I am not running for president."

The only reason this guy was ever elected was because the MD Democrats gerrymandered the 6th. The chopped off the traditional Republican areas and added parts of ultra liberal Montgomery County.

I'd vote for John Mulaney.

Manchin, Warner are all said to be people who work across the aisle. Name me one aisle that either worked across

What's his stance on Taxes, Business Regulation, the 1st Amendment, the 2nd Amendment.

That's true, but he also introduced legislation trying to require that districting be done by independent folks.

I'm not holding the guy up to be the great American candidate. I heard an interview, and he sounded reasonable. I read a bio and his platform, and I thought those were decent. I'm interested in what he has to say right now. I think he faces an uphill battle.

This early in the game, getting details on much is dofficult. He was trying to use the repatriation tax to infrastructure investment. That got folded into the tax bill, so no luck there for that. He did say he voted against the tax bill. I don't know anything beyond that on taxes.

With respect to business regulations, sounded like regulations in general, he says that government has a place in creating an environment for growth. No real detail there.

The interview didn't go into the other issues.

No Leftist gets elected being honest about being a Leftist. Only exceptions are Maxine Waters because her constituents are hopelessly needy of her handouts in order to survive and Shelia Jackson Lee, who's constitients still think we landed on Mars instead of the Moon.

Once he meets Keith Ellison he'll be lucky to even get a chance to place his name into consideration.

If his views marry up with much of how Maryland is run, then it would be a huge no for me. Maryland is probably the worst of the 4 states we deal with.

I know you are in that general area, probably a little east of his district. Part of why I posted this was to see if you knew much about the guy.
He’s not as bad as OMalley by any stretch, but a moderate isn’t what I’d call him.

It's possible that is in comparison to the other anticipated candidates for the Dem nomination. He seemed reasonable, and I can deal with reasonable. I'm not giving him my vote just now. I'll follow his progress though.

Mule do you think a Pro Life Dem could ever be nominated by that party? I thought I read somewhere that this guy was Pro-Life? Catholic too.

The truth is that right now any candidate that isnt talking full blown crazy is an odd change.

John Delaney calls himself Pro Choice. He supports public funding for abortions. I would call him Pro Abortion because that's indeed what he is. He is not a moderate.......he is left of center. He opposes school vouchers and said he would vote to repeal recent tax cuts and actually supported raising pre Trump tax rates and income tax rates.......in other words while Trump cut rates....Delaney wanted to raise them.

Okay I thought I read on one of the right-to-life websites when he was running for congress initially that his position on abortion was that he was pro-life. I know he's Catholic but that doesn't mean anything. He might be one of those "personally opposed to abortion but wouldn't want to impose it on someone else" frauds. If he's Catholic he probably has some interesting Confessions with his Priest.
