I'm not a fan of this admin's approach, but I don't think that justifies defying a federal order.

Well, Oaklands violent crime rate has gone down considerably the last five years since they have instituted these "sanctuary" rules, so it would seem they work for them. I love how states rights matter until they don't. The reality is that cities in California with huge legal and illegal immigrant populations doesn't want every witness to a crime who is an immigrant, legal or illegal, to be more afraid of the ICE than they are of cooperating with local law enforcement, it isn't like there is much disatisfaction with the people in these cities as much as it is with the rubes trump stirs up in states like WV where there are hardly any immigrants, but hey, gotta keep them WV Union boys afraid of something so they vote for right to work laws. The police in these cities ain't exactly screaming foul either. But let little beauregard ride into California and help our Demographics with all our Latina Americans. I always wonder how racists from like WV think folks in places like Texas and California differentiate who is an American and who is an "illegal", especially in like San Diego or in San Antonio. But hey, them dumasses think folks here illegally go vote, lol.

I'm not saying it's a great federal policy, I'm asking what legal grounds does California have.

Well they are being sued so I guess we will see what shakes out in court, Governor Brown just said Sessions sounds more like a Fox news host than an AG, said I'm sure Jeff thinks this will make his boss happy, lol.

Fairly easy to pick out. The illegals are the ones hanging out beside of Lowe’s and Home Depot waiting to be picked up for a yob.

When I see a family looking like this, it’s also a pretty good giveaway.

That is a sign not a family, who cares, lock up the Latina vote in Texas and California by going after sanctuary cities, I don't care, I live in WV.

Wonder what song they will be singing when federal Marshals descend on the Governor or defiant mayors and lead them away in handcuffs for committing Federal Crimes against the Country. I hope that Sessions is man enough to makes stick that which is being 'promised'. No State, Municipality, politician, or citizen is above the law and able to choose when to follow or deviate from it. Brown and the defiant mayor (s) should be locked up as would any common citizen who chooses to disregard Federal Laws.

I believe Cali enacted 3 laws on this. On one they may have standing. That's one where they say they won't hold or transport people released by state or local court for ICE. Why that may be ok is a liability concern. If that person is released by the court and still held by the state, then that person is injured while in custody, it's a liability issue for the state or local municipality. Also, police also come into contact with people who may be here illegally who are victims of or witnesses to crimes. Turning them over harms the efforts of local law enforcement.

There's another law that basically says that private employers can't turn employees in to ICE. I think they'll get slammed on that. The only possible defense of that law is to keep employers from exploiting illegals they hire. I think there are better ways to avoid that, and I believe it's a federal crime to knowingly hire illegals anyway. Besides, as written, that law puts employers between a rock and a hard place. If you find out an employee is here illegally, you have to decide whether to break federal or state law.

As for the Oakland mayor tipping off people about an ICE raid, I can't think of a defense for that.

Hey! An actual answer! And a good answer to boot. I'd have to say agree with what you typed. I wish this was a bigger deal in the news. Our biggest, richest state is being sued by the Federal government.

Well maybe we just shouldn't have any laws and just let people do what they want...just look that past that whole "illegal" word in illegal alien.

"What grounds does Cali have to stand on? Answer; "The Titanic"..they seem to forget how the Ovomit "administration"already set precedent with the ruling on Arizona a few years ago.. political "grandstanding" @ it's finest..1/4 of ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE IN CALI!! should be an easy "round up"
