that the Big10 is left out of the playoff? And what makes it even better, it is OSU that is staying home after winning the championship game.

Gotta pull for UGA due to family connections. Don't want Baker Mayfield winning a championship at Oklahoma and sure as hell don't want Bama winning. Clemson.......meh.

Clemson and Oklahoma are the two best teams (as much as that pains me to say it because I hate Oklahoma). Everyone else was just in a pissing match to see who get's to be the warm up games.

Interesting that is your perspective. I would say Bama and UGA are the two best. All four are very good so I don't think there is a wrong perspective. One thing I will say with a high level of certainty, is OU has the worse defense by a long shot of the four. That may make a big difference in this playoff.

It will be interesting.

And you know what, if I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit it. I'll shout it from the rooftops if it makes certain morons on here happy.

I know what you mean. UGA defense gets healthy, their cornerbacks should be able to cover OU. Then it is about the speed of the LB's to keep Mayfield in check going side to side. Both playoff games are going to may Jan 1st a great day just like the old days, imo.

One of Georgia's LB may not be playing:
Linebacker Natrez Patrick was one of two Georgia players arrested late Saturday night on misdemeanor marijuana charges. It's the third marijuana-related arrest for Patrick and the second this year. He was arrested in October on misdemeanor marijuana charges and served a four-game suspension. He was also arrested on the same charges as a freshman in 2015 and was suspended one game. Georgia Athletic Association policies mandate that student-athletes be dismissed from the team following a third drug-related incident.

Damn, didn't hear about that. Just went and read up on it. He is done. UGA has some tough policies about those type of infractions.

I think it’s fantastic, although I can’t stand Bama. But I’m glad to see B10 get owned.

Yes, I despise Bama as much as I do OSU. But leaving OSU out after winning the B10 championship is a bigger 'dis than if Bama was left off. So, I'm loving that so Buckeye fans can wallow in their misery for months. It is almost worth going to their message board and to read some of the whining.

I'm for legalizing pot...but until that time comes these knuckleheads need to obey the rules that they knew were in place when they signed on.

Then they’ll want 16. It’s a really slippery slope and unnecessary

Not really. Conference champs from the P5's, and 3 at larges. Opens up possibilities for the best of a non-P5 to get in, Notre Dame, etc.

It's one thing to ahve a committee decide the teams the make of the NCAA basketball championship when there are 64 teams in the field. With football, with only 4 teams, it's not good enough.

It is impossible to keep the bowl structure and have a quarter final, semi final and championship game scenario. That is the the biggest hurdle. By expanding the championship to 8 teams will severely impact the bowls and the other teams and that will mean less overall money. And money is what dictates this world, not a true champion.

Problem is you’d have ro shorten the regular season to 11 games to accomidate that extra week

I'd be fine with that, but you really wouldn't have to. There's almost 4 weeks between now and the first "playoff" game. Start the first round the week of Christmas, the Semifinal the week of New Years and the Championship the week after.

In terms of impacts to bowl games, I disagree. We already have the "new years day" bowls out there that could act as hosts to the first four games.

But that would require ‘extra’ practice and playing time beyond what is permitted by NCAA.

You can disagree all you want. Logistically, taking to 8 teams or up to 16 could work. But that will impact so many other things which makes it nothing more than a fantasy.

It could easily be integrated into the bowl system. The lower rated bowls could go ahead with their games schedule and time. So few games are profitable that could be a benefit. I would attend a WVU Gator bowl on the last week of December before I would go to a California or Arizona bowl in the playoff system. Cannot be that hard to schedule 8 team playoff and leave lesser bowls to their own little bowl world.

Like Bru said...it's all about the money and T-V ratings...but your idea could work if the Bowls would give up some of their own $$$$$.

How many bowls are there now, 35 or so? You could easily snag 4 of those for the first round of an 8-team set up. Win a p5 conference championship, and you get a ticket - 13-0 or 8-5.

ohio state pundits pushing for an 8-team playoff already...

They have a point to an extent this year with 'Bama getting in not even winning their division much less their conference. But they weren't bitching two years ago when they got in over TCU under essentially the same scenario.

I'm sorry to say you and others are not seeing the entire picture. Yes, logistically a tournament style playoff could work. No argument. But the college presidents, conferences, the NCAA, the various cities that bowls are located in and the actual bowls committees including sponsors and charities, TV networks are all against the idea. It is too impactful as there will be winners and losers in changing. The lower bowls will disappear. The top tier bowls will also cease to exist as you know them. It will turn into March Madness where a few cities get the pre-championship games and the Championship game will rotate between about 8 cities. Now there are about 62 teams going to post-season bowl games to many cities across the country. Changing will make the regular season pretty insignificant as once out of the playoff race (and most conferences will have little chance of making it anyway), their season has nothing to play for. Fans interest will go down, pressure on coaches goes through the roof. This is exactly what is happening with basketball currently making the regular season of 4 1/2 months basically nothing more than a warmup to March Madness. Only benefit is there will be a team holding the trophy that won 4 or 5 extra games in a row. That is important to some fans; not as important to the other parties listed above.

I like that what could be the greatest coach in history is from down the road, just at the wrong school.
I understand. But that is his personal accomplishment and I like that too. But I differentiate what he does for a living from who he is and he is a good WVian.

Quick story. I have a cousin who is a close childhood friend of Saban and still is a friend. When Saban was with LSU, I met him at a function. I dropped my cousin's name and Saban' s eyes lit up and he spent the next fifteen minutes talking to me. It was very cool and I enjoyed the conversation.
