Please stay in the Senate.
He can do more to build compromises in the Senate that in the Trump administration.
By picking Manchin, Trump can potentially make available another Senate seat for the R's. There won't be a previously elected incumbent in that seat, making it very vulnerable in 2018. In the mean time, Trump will get the good PR for "reaching across the isle" by picking a Dem for a Cabinet position.
I suspect the Dems will lobby Manchin to not leave, and run for reelection to the Senate instead in hopes that they hold that seat. Maybe he can use that leverage for a better minority leadership position in the Senate.

The repubs ned to make a move on Manchin to get him to change parties to the one more in line with what he beleives in.

On the one hand, he'd be about as good of a pick for an energy secretary as one could hope for under a GOP president, but the Dems are so weak in both houses that I can't see the Senate Dem caucus just letting him leave like that.
Although - my best friend, Alex Jones of InfoWars, thinks Joe Manchin is a soft piece of **** and wants our kids to drink flouride by the gallon and teach our kids common core sex classes.. So I personally don't know how to feel.
I think that's a possibility. Tim just lost his state seat in a shocker. While the family has been more an old southern Democratic group ,it's dominated the Fairmont/Clarksburg area for a long time. I can still see those orange A's AJ and his crew used to paint on the sides and.old abandoned cars all over the old roads between Kimball and Welch so they could be towed and junked.at Matneys Junk Yard.there on Rt 52.when AJ was Sec of State. But I think Tim's loss really opened the Senators eyes. Heather being hammered on world wide TV didn't help either.The Dems ruled Southern WV and most other parts for 100 years based on the UMWA being behind them. Outside Underwood and Moore winning the state House, Republicans may have well not existed below Charleston.
No way - Actually there needs to be a new party created - the Moderates. The middle has no say in either party right now.

I'm a little excited to see Trump tack back to the middle because this country can't move forward unless it's governed from the center where all Americans can see the common sense in the laws being made rather than laws being made specifically to appease the end of the spectrum folks. That's why we've had gridlock the past 10/15 years.
But Trump can't save coal. He can plow a better road that coal can take to survive and perhaps prosper in some fashion. But, forget world markets, coal will never again be a huge creator of jobs. It'll never drive a whole states economy. But it can contribute to the economic health of some small towns and maybe even whole counties in southern WV.
But energy as a whole, can drive a big part of the economy.
I don't care about TRUMP. OR HILLARY. I care about AMERICA. I believe for America to thrive and grow again ideas from all over need to be considered. Not radical socialist wealth redistribution ******** or a total no rules free market that runs down smaller businesses and creates monopoly situations where we only have 3oil companies or 7 banks left.
It's a hard row to hoe but I think the time is right. Let's just hope that the legislative folks we've selected understand they represent all of us and all of us are willing to learn and work and take care of their families. The. American Dream isn't dead and it hasn't yet become a nightmare. It out there and if we get moving on rolling back some of the damage we've done to ourselves, I believe more and more people will take up the spirit that built this nation and move it forward once again.
Actually what I think is happening is that if Trump offers Manchin a spot in his cabinet, Manchin's spot will be up for reelection. Given WV is moving to be a red state, the likelihood of filling his spot with a Republican is very high. They are doing the same in North Dakota.

in place to have Justice to appoint Earl Ray to the Senate
seat. May be just rumor, but I got this on Election night
when it was still thought Hillary was going to win, and it
came from an official of University. Different President,
thankfully, but Justice would still have power of appointment.
That is what I think too. If a significant number of people (30-35%) joined a moderate party, the extremes would be marginalized, compromise would come more easily, and the country would be less polarized. The problem would not be getting people to join but getting the money to support it.
Not sure I agree that the right has moved right. The left has definitely moved left--nobody 10 years ago was in favor of gay marriage or tacitly supporting murdering cops.
I do agree that there very likely could be a whole new party created during and especially after Trump's tenure.
On the left you'll have the Elizabeth Warren-Bernie Sanders Democratic party. On the right you'll have the Krauthammer-WVU Ivey classic conservatives.
I suspect by 2020 there will be a party in the middle that believes in a muscular government, not in the military sense, but in American jobs and economic policy. Personally, I don't think it's a great idea for the President to call the CEO of Carrier and intimidate him into action or inaction. Hard to argue with the results, particularly in light of Obama's effete and trite answer to the out of work union guy that "those old jobs aren't coming back".
Like him or hate him, you can't argue that The Donald has made politics super-duper interesting this year...and fro at least the next 4 years. We really might witness the birth of a new party, or maybe the conservatives will go libertarian and we could see a legit 3rd party.
This. Not trying to be political, just talking Xs and Os, these two reasons are the driving force behind this IMO. I have gotten the impression over the last few years that Manchin has been ostracized by his own party more and more. Similar to what happened to Joe Lieberman. Not sure how good he would be at that job, but I understand why he's in the running for it.
But as I noted it will be up for reelection in 2018. And there would not be a previously elected incumbent in that seat (i.e. It would be the person appointed by the Gov). That makes it easier to flip to the R's.

If you're talking about the NC law that McCrory signed, a major part of the backlash came from allowing state employees to deny services to gay people, citing religious beliefs. That's ridiculous.

I keep hearing there's not enough support from Republicans or Democrats to pass this.
Amazing how they continue to recycle the same names, same families, same policies...when the state sorely needs new ideas and a breath of fresh air.
