So you have Iowa as a national title contender? Better bet your trailer. The funny thing is that MGM has Nebraska and Iowa as the same odds to win the title. How great is that. 2nd year coach with a freshman qb that won 5 games with the same odds as a coach in what, his 25th year at Iowa who won 10 games.

I do think Washington will be way down next year and UCLA will be too, if Chip bolts for the NFL.
i don’t understand why this is such a big sentiment on this board. What about UCLA is supposed to be so great? They have won 10 games twice in 20 years. They have been under .500 half those seasons. Sounds like Purdue or Illinois to me.
Washington went 4-8 two seasons ago. What about their history suggests they will consistently win 10+ games? Especially, with another coaching change.
Iowa beat USC in 2019. They also went 4-8 in 2021. Lincoln Riley has already shown to have plenty of faults.
Prior to Harbaugh, Kirk won 5 of 6 against Michigan. Who is to say Michigan is gonna stay on the same level?
Oregon and OSU are probably going to remain on the top level. I think we can all agree on that.
You brought up consistency under Kirk. I don’t think that changes because Husker fans wanna tear down what he has been able to establish by glorifying the new teams. It’s not Alabama, Georgia, and another OSU coming in.

I think there will be a drop-off for Washington and I don't think the Cali schools are world beaters. You generally struggle with legit offenses. I don't think you are going to hold all these teams to 10 points and win 13-10. I think legit offenses are going to force you out of your game. Your game is to slow play Big 10 west and ****** east teams until they make a mistake.
I think we can all agree that you guys struggle against the Michigan and OSU's of the world. Don't you also generally beat Wisconsin less than 50% of the time?
You have been consistent. I will give you that. But the vast majority of those wins are against Big 10 west teams, ****** east teams, and your weak non-conference schedule.

My first question, why is winning 10 games being distorted into a bad thing in regards to this past year? Iowa beat four bowl teams (two on the road) and kept two other teams from reaching bowl eligibility. With a back up QB who shouldn’t be playing for a P5 team.
Second question, why is it that the terrible offenses Brian came up with the last two years is widely accepted as the norm for Iowa? Historically, Kirk has had offenses in the mid to upper 20’s with a couple creeping into the 30’s. Winning every game 13-10 with a back up QB isn’t the norm.
The big knock on Kirk for so long was that he could pull a few upsets but lose to teams he shouldn’t have. Now, he is beating teams he should beat, even with terrible offenses. That shows me his overall philosophy and culture works.
My hope is that he keeps his field position and TOP philosophy but lets the new OC handle the 6 seconds of live ball. If he doesn’t show trust in Lester early on, he could waste a CFP defense yet again.
You and I are the same, just look at my user name for confirmation. Iowa football is a paper tiger year in and year out since 2015 and even worse before that save a couple years in the early 2000s. Reality and not delusion, Bigten West teams like Nebraska and Wisconsin have come down to Iowa’s level and that has allowed Iowa to win.
Sad, I guess the old adage still holds true… You engage with an idiot, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. I guess I have to admit, iowa has used that tactic masterfully to back door 8/9 wins.
You won a bunch of one score, low scoring games. Who knows if that style works going forward. NU and Wisconsin had first year head coaches. Michigan State now has a good HC. The qbs alone will make things much tougher in 2024.
BIG 10 last year had 9 of the worst 50 scoring offenses in the country is one reason why the conference had so many high rated defenses teams with Ioway and Nebraska being two of them..
So SWherky thinks they have a playoff defense yet their odds making the playoffs (title) are the same as Nebraska at +20000..
Winning ten games is great, but when your combined score to ranked teams is 94-0.. then you have rethink how great? Don’t ya think ?
Most Nebraska fans were never happy with Pelini’s seasons bc they would get blown out by good teams.. but alas, Nebraska and Iowa have different expectations so enjoy the wins
92-0, but yeah iowa got clowned in those games. They put everything into the Nebraska game and won by 3, just to have nothing left for the two remaining and went on to lose those games a combined 61-0. SWIjerky tries pretty hard, but until he posts an honest factual thought about iowa football he’s just a clown like the rest of them.
It's not even putting everything into our game. Iowa wins low scoring games against mediocre to bad teams, usually with ****** offenses and qbs. My whole point was they will have less of those games next year and going forward.
2022 vs 2023 for NU is a great example. We were not a good team in 2022 but had a decent qb and a good wr. Relatively easy win on the road that stopped them from going to Indy. 2023 terrible qb play and they squeak out a win due to qb incompetence.
The qb play of the west coast teams is almost always going to be head and shoulders above what we were all facing in the Big 10 west.
I know how much it triggers iowa fans when I post that it’s their superbowl and how they put everything into the Nebraska game. It may not be true for the iowa team, but it’s definitely true for their fans.
If it wasn’t at least partly true it wouldn’t piss them off so much when you call them on it. They instantly start acting a gilted teenage girls. It’s really quite glorious
It’s not going to work going forward. As I said, it’s not really the norm under Kirk. Are they going to win 44-41? Nope. Look at the ten win 2019 season. The lowest scoring total for a win was 18 for Iowa. One was 19 and everything else was 20+, 30+, or 49 (against USC).
You must not be on Twitter or go outside this board much. Iowa fans have been pissed for a while about the offense. Plenty of people want Kirk gone. It’s just another narrative that Husker fans throw out every year to make themselves still feel superior to Iowa fans. But it honestly doesn’t hold water.
2025 will indeed be tough. They will lose essentially the ENTIRE defense so I don’t disagree on that season.
That would be an interesting wager. If Iowa gets back to mid to upper 20’s PPG they have a shot this year. Nebraska does not. Iowa has no shot in 2025. Outside that, it’s a tough prediction.
I’d pry take that bet fully being aware neither team may make it in the next half decade. Plus, Kirk has at least shown to have good stretches of winning against PSU, Michigan, etc. Matt Rhule is now what, 1-13 against ranked opponents?
I like you, but they don't have a shot. The Huskers don't either. There is maybe 2-3 teams that have a shot and that is it. I know you still have to play the games, etc... Neither Iowa nor Nebraska is playoff material.
Right now neither is - but for 12 teams I would venture to say the Huskers could be there in 2 years

What do you mean by 2-3? In the Big Ten? I agree. If Cade stays healthy and/or Iowa adds a QB in the portal, the schedule isn’t daunting enough to think Iowa couldn’t go 11-1 in the regular season. It’s quite the “IF” though.
