Well, nothing they may or not be getting paid would explain the lack of talent on the team.

Rhule just finished his first full year here. The lack talent was on the roster wasn't his doing. But he certainly bought the wrong qb.

This year his OC is traveling around the country in a private jet recruiting the kids in the million dollar club.

Maybe Nebraska NIL isn't the train wreck you think it is.

That said, at least you've put your money where your mouth is and actually donated to one of them.

I have to wonder if after Rhule selected Sims last year if he isn't now letting Satt select the portal QB this year. :)

What is this “progression” you speak of?
Well he was playing behind an O line that included multiple future NFL players and looking at multiple future NFL WRs so there is that. A an extra second of time without a rusher in your face is a big deal for a QB.

No question, but these OSU posters were adamant that he didn’t even know what a progression was… so it begs the question of what do they know?

Granted, these are just a few plays out of many on the season. But I think he’ll be fine under center for us.

Rhule didn’t have a lot of options for QBs last year. The whole NIL collective thing was still getting its feet under it and most most of the top QBs already had an idea where they wanted to go. I think it’s safe to say that NU was still trying to figure some things out. IF we had gotten similar production from Sims that GT got, the narrative would probably be a little different. Some of the difference no doubt was playing in a new offense.

The bottom line is that we won’t know until he plays some games behind our O line and with our receivers. People need to just keep the expectations reasonable and be patient. NFL QBs that have to learn new offenses almost always struggle for a few games even after having a whole summer camp to learn them.

Half of the top 10 offenses in the country this year were led by new OC/QB combos

This is an excuse that is disproven by quality players/coaches annually

Expectations aren’t the problem. Execution is.

We’ll see. Last few days of rumors haven’t been completely discouraging. Landing McCord would be a good start

Well at least the good thing is that any portal transfer QB in December will have Spring practice to learn as well as the Fall camp. (Of course that didn't help much last time IF you're naturally prone to throwing interceptions and turnovers.)

Agreed with this - the number of drives and opportunities for yards/points cut short by ridiculous turnovers would have made a huge difference in our ratings had our turnovers been middle of the road.

The problem last year wasn't selecting Simms. He was a high risk and high reward type player based on physical capabilities and past results and wanted to come here. If staff thought they could fix the decision making stuff and have an above QB P5 QB go after him and bring him in.

The problem I have with it is we put all are eggs in that one basket which had a fairly decent likely hood of not working based on his track record of turning ball over at Gtech. When that failed we didn't have a single other P5 option until Purdy got healthy which, in hindsight, was a mistake.

As a result of this, I believe that along with Purdy coaches will bring in at least 2 guys that are either proven or highly likely of being able to play at minimum P5 average level next year. If one of those guys is McCord/Howard then we know the floor at QB is P5 above average player and decision maker which will change everything on that side of ball (assuming Satterfield isn't the primary problem)

It's interesting that there's so much focus on McCord you don't hear much about the second part of the supposed package deal: Fleming. For example, Fleming 2023 stats.

I hope we can land him. But I am not as optimistic as some, he is on a visit to PSU this weekend.

Fleming would be awesome. I'd like at least two receivers though. Also, the portal running back selection is STACKED. At this point, I'd say there is way more running back talent at the top end in the portal than there will actually be coming back to their original teams. We should be grabbing at least one. We can and should be overhauling our entire offense this offseason.

I believe

I think Leavitt is for sure, and McCord highly likely.
Like Kong said they better be running around to these QB like are they but closing on them is completely different. Will see how that goes.

Gotta say, the timing on the portal compared to signing day is fooking stupid.
They need to let HS players start signing on the first Wednesday in September. Then have the February signing day. December is now portal month.

Except having HS players sign in December means those players can consider the majority of the coaching carousel changes and the coaches can take into account one more year of video on the players.

How was OSU in a position to start such a bad qb? Why weren't they in the portal last year or why didn't they have a hs qb?
I believe there are 2 QBs on the roster better but Day went conservative IMO which was a huge mistake. Now he is in the position where he is gonna get fired if he loses next year. It was obvious Day had no trust in McCord so why the other 2 werent given a real shot is beyond me.

So just to be clear, when you say “check down” does that mean to someone on our team or the other team?
Usually it means throwing at the feet of the RB or 10 yards above his head depending on his mood. Occasionally he'll throw it right to a DB but he had good luck this year with most of them dropping easy INTs.

Do y'all happen to have 4 NFL WRs and an NFL RB to bail him out too?

For Starters, we just need him not to turn the ball over 3-4 times a game and read defenses and take what is there.

next step is trying to become a 7-8 win team and you do that by playing defense and having a QB that can protect the ball and make plays that are there.

10 yards over a receiver's head would be a massive improvement. Pick em up.

So you are saying your coach not only didn't pick the 2nd best qb but picked the 3rd best qb to start the entire season? So your backups would have thrown for what, 4,000 yards while completing 70%+ of their passes? Why are you guys even looking at a portal qb? You have a Heisman winner as a backup.

We may have to institute mandatory drug testing before people post around here.

Nebraska and OSU certainly have different expectations for our qbs. I hope one day we return to high expectations like we once had and osu currently has

So you are saying that your Coach made the decision to play the 3rd string QB over the top two and by doing so, has put his job in jeopardy? Man he must have needed some excitement in his life. Maybe you guys should stop worrying about who the QB is and get a new coach, because your current one sounds dumb.
