I am shocked, as well

kid won them the conference title last year and went toe to toe with Bama for a quarter or so

who's going to be their QB next year? the long haired kid?
Yes, RSF Avery Johnson. Super talented but needs to bulk up to run a K-State offense. They will need to keep him healthy…given that Howard and Rubley are both gone.

The portal:
Reminds me some of the Cuban refugee crisis where the U.S. was conned into taking the inhabitants of Cuban prisons.
Got to wade through some of this. 5 star guy who never played in three years. Dude who can't pass up a vape shop without committing a crime. Town has a series of unsolved rapes that mysteriously end when said player goes elsewhere. Anyone who commits a nightmarish amount of turnovers.

When someone wants to go elsewhere you've got to find out why.
How bout this thought. Portal will find out nil value. They may not be getting squat where they're at. Go to the portal and let the bidding begin

will howard is leaving because of avery johnson, the gifted freshman, who some loudmouth fans and media have clamored to field since he arrived and because will's been here four years. like amart, it's likely getting stale and a last opportunity to 'cash in' on his college career.

plus, all his buddies are now gone either to the league, like all-americans ben sinnott and cooper beebe, or because they've used up their eligibility.

i do hope he chooses N, so we can watch and cheer him on next year. as i wrote earlier, so much irony in this if that happens. i'm sure amart is pushing gbr. they are very close friends.

Better send some $$ to one of the NIL collectives for Nebraska to help get what is needed.

Hearing that the backup to Shedeur Sanders might be entering the portal. His stats Saturday against Utah: 17/24 for 195 yds, 1 TD, 0 int.

Deion on Staub in postgame:
He proved that he wants to play somewhere, whether it's here or somewhere else, and he proved that he could play.
Staub looked pretty good on Saturday, even behind the Buffs' awful O-line. He was decisive and got the ball out quickly. Would have had a second TD but it was overturned on a "curious" replay review. Also threw some nice balls that were dropped.

Really small, though. Listed at 6'1" but that must be on tippy toes.

Considering how many NU players hit the portal during SF's reign, I will be curious as to how that plays out under MR. If players stay, I think that speaks highly. If he signs coveted recruits, that speaks even louder and higher. Might be more of a measuring stick than (sadly) the season was. Overall, improvement, but far from great coaching and teaching, or growing the team. Did they regress? Maybe, probably.

Portal and recruiting is the game right now. Ho Hum. No matter how that goes, unless there is BIG time improvement, they'll be lucky to make a bowl game next year. I'd like to be more optimistic, but nothing to base that on until it happens...that's why they play'em.

Some may be true but there is no way he is worried about Johnson. If he was, he is in trouble as that will be everywhere he goes. I live in KS and didn't hear the chorus for Johnson.

IMHO he wants exposure somewhere else in a bigger program to get him ready for the league.

you obviously have no clue what will howard has been through here at k-state. and bigger program, my ***. he's coming off a power five championship. he's leaving for the reasons i stated and because this is an opportunity to "cash in" on his final collegiate year. i hope he chooses N. but ND and penn state are obviously wealthy as well. it probably becomes a bidding contest. such is the putrid state of the game today.

This really is the death to HS recruiting as we know it. Why even take the chance on HS kids not panning out when you can draw from free agency with no salary cap?

It's not like the way we knew High school recruiting was exactly above board and honest. But you're right, the whole game is gonna change.

The transfer portal is as American as apple pie

God bless a free, unregulated market

So what did the poor kid have to endure that other QB's don't? Everything I was hearing and reading was all pro Howard and not much about Johnson except he was a future guy who is not ready. And I suppose it is going to automatically be better somewhere else in reference to what he has been going through? If he came to Nebraska the critique level easily doubles, same with ND who apparently was interested in him. So you are comparing K-State to ND as being on the same level? If it is all about money, which it could be which is short term thinking, then why not just milk what he can get at K-State?

because that nil money is going to avery johnson. you have a dollar. you can give it to a freshman with immense potential or a senior with a year left who has reached his potential. where do you put it?

in notre dame's case, there's no avery johnson on the roster. your qb room is empty. so you can spend that dollar on will howard, another portal dude, or bank it.

Totally agree and won’t argue that. Just sucks the majority of kids aren’t really committing to schools anymore. Sure there will always be the guys dreaming to play for certain schools but the good ones will always see the dollars and get theirs. Just feels like mercenary squads and not true teams. Oh well, it is what it is
