There’s been lots of NFL QBs who struggled with interceptions as young QBs in college. He has an NFL arm. Didn’t Josh Allen throw 4 picks against us? The Gopher defense is actually pretty talented too.
How does Sims have an NFL arm?. I had friends in high school who could throw a football with velocity and they didn't even play football.
An NFL arm, in my opinion..
1. Velocity
2. Accuracy
3. Ability to see the field and make progressions. In the pro game this has to be done at warp speed.
4. Timing.
Of these, Sims has only arm strength. A pro scout can find these at a dime a dozen. He's looking for the other factors.
Sims is rated as the number 25 pro prospect in the college game. That may sound ok but given the numbers, I doubt he'd be draftable. I realize the Matt Rhule comments regarding his pro prospectus but at this point put no stock into it.
One thing I didn't realize about Sims was the vast number of sacks he's taken in his career. Looks like what we saw Thursday night is a pretty good representation of what he's been and who he is.
The coaches job is to put him in position to be successful. Short passing game with little risk. Get him warmed up. I don't know, given our reciever situation it's going to be an uphill struggle. Guys like Kemp are not going to be making circus catches 50 yards down the field. Get him the ball quickly and then he can use his running skills.
