Didn't rhule say that gilberts transfer decision should be in before the first game?

The biggest surprises to me were the guys that didn’t make the depth chart, or aren’t currently “above the line”.

Fields and Nation have been getting a lot of hype, but neither appeared on the depth chart while guys like Bretz and Bootle did. Parrot was mentioned a lot on the OL, but Sledge passes him and Parrot isn’t on the depth chart. And of course Jeudy isn’t listed on the DL.

Notable to me:

Haven't heard much of anything about Bretz but he is the top backup at a safety spot.
I love seeing Bretz on the two deep. He exemplifies the type of prospect who would get buried on the depth chart at NU (losing era) but would have been a stud if he went somewhere else. Maybe this new approach to more physical and competitive practices will help us play more of the best kids.

He may hope that is the case, but you never know with the NCAA. Remember when they waited to rule Noah Vedral eligible until like week 4?

I'm fine with taking a chance on a kid when a new staff is just getting started. But moving forward, hopefully Rhule recruits and develops at a level that we no longer consider taking 2nd time transfers or injured guys who aren't what they once were.

We were hearing good things about Bootle in spring ball. Looks like Buckley snagged Jeudy’s spot on the 2-deep but Jeudy’s probably the 5th big guy and will play.. Buckley is a large human even after trimming up a bit and if the light bulb is now on for him, that bodes well for NU.

You are probably right and I could be reading too much into it but it looks like they go ahead and list more at the spots where they are deeper and plan to play more guys (LT, QB, RB). But they don’t do that at those spots.

Agreed

Lots of guys “hyped” by the staff wound up where they belong

This is another example of the PR training Rhule received in the NFL. Fans better get used to hearing names in camp they won’t be hearing during the season.

Coach isn’t going to badmouth guys. Ever.

For one thing, Bretz is a redshirt sophomore. And another thing is Rhule has made it clear guys need to know the entire playbook in order to play. And that can be tough for a true freshman to nail down along with adjusting to college speed, even if they are talented. That Bootle is already on the depth chart is a good sign, he might be a good one.

let me get this straight… this is 4 pages worth of “I told you so’s” from KK? When the depth chart says ‘OR’?

Never in the history of this board has there ever been a poster more right than KK (in his own mind).

How tiresome.

Passion is great… You bring a lot to this board. Don’t stop.

That said, this thread is about the entire depth chart, not just QB2.
was very pleased to see Bretz among all the local talent on the 2-deep

kid's going to be a player

Depth charts can change weekly if not daily. They’re a powerful motivation tool.

As I recall some of that was our lack of urgency on his situation. That wasn’t all on the NCAA.

I don't remember the details but neither of these scenarios (UCF being butthurt, frost forgetting to file paperwork) would surprise me
I believe the plan was to redshirt Vedral or they didn’t plan on using him. Then Gebbia left and they needed Vedral so they started the process late.

makes perfect sense that frost would do something so laissez faire before he even coached his first practice here

what an a-hole

If Purdy is the #2, we are in trouble. He might be able to practice good, but he has no business being on the field come game day. Isn't he the one that stubbed his toe and injured himself the last time he ran the ball?

The offensive line and the receivers are going to be a serious issue... The receiver room? There is a problem there. Defense should be the strong point. Not a huge strong point, but enough to maybe get them to a bowl. The offense? Serious problems...

My bellwether position is RT. IMO as long as the best we can do there is Benhart, more of the same no matter who our QB, RBs and WRs are.

week 4 depth chart

the "OR" in the QB room moved up a line

next stop: Haarberg removing it altogether
