LOL. I come from a background where horses late scratch all the time, so I'd have to consider Chubba has a history of injury and HH doesn't. I don't have the level of emotional injury tied up on this issue like you do, in fact, I really don't care who the backup(s) or what order they're in, as long as they can do the job., which has been my position all along.

I'm starting to read Rhule, he's a lot easier to read than TO, and I think Rhule tends to commit to guys that he really likes, and tends to talk about. I don't hear much about HH, but Rhule does talk about Chubba. Now is that to keep him interested and thinking he still has a chance as the backup, or exactly what does Rhule imply?

If I did make a wager with you, it would be the first wager I made on a football related item since 1983, so it's really not my thing.
I was hoping that dingle would give you a jingle since you are the two that have talked back and forth.

This doesn't mean that I won't bet you kong. Obviously, I've thrown down a lot of money over the years. I've won before and I'll win again, I've lost before and I'll lose again. But, I'm a guy who is gonna hedge my bets. If we say, for the opener, then I'm more apt to throw a few bucks down, just to make it interesting, and that would assume both guys made it through fall camp mostly injury free. If HH turns an ankle and can't go and you lose the bet, I wouldn''t take your money anyhow.

But, do I really care who the backup is? Not really. When we get closer to the opener, we can have another chat on this subject, but what if the depth-chart comes back with Sims 1, and HH or Chubba 2?
Exactly. I don’t really have a horse in this race either. I just don’t think trashing Purdy to build up HH is necessary.

I think considering Chubba's big brother is in the NFL, I doubt Chubba couldn't run and hide even if he wanted to. I know quite a bit about that "little brother syndrome" and they feel like they have to compete with the older brother, and in this case it doesn't apply. I doubt many of us expect Chubba to be donning an NFL jersey, let alone starting in the NFL any time soon.

It does bother me though, that Whipple, would overlook a physically gifted kid like HH and go to the less talented Purdy. Either Whipple was a total moron or HH did or does enough things in practice to not be able to even get a chance. Last year would it have made any difference if NU was 3-9 or 4-8? I want HH to come in a do a good job, he's big enough he should be able to withstand the rigors of BIG football. Right now, I don't think we can say that about Chubba. I do know until I see HH in real game action, I'm gonna hold my breath until he proves he can take of the ball.

With Sims' history of injury and two unproven backups, it does make a guy nervous.

A couple of days before the opener I am going to draw a comparison between this team and horseracing. The guys that hate when I talk horses either won't read it or will hate my rationale, lol, but I do see some parallels between the two.

I know one thing, Pelini will get it.
Hell Whipple had a walk on freshman ahead of HH and left HH at home for one of our last away games. We won’t know until we see these guys in meaningful game situations with this staff.

Nebraska success hinges on how healthy Sims is during the duration of the season..

Don’t have a lot of confidence in Purdy or HH..Danny Kaelin can’t make it to campus fast enough..

the post following this, in which you trash HH, is just too perfect.

so Sims isn't the starter?

I really don't understand you people sometimes. it's really sad to see so many very strong feelings toward me projected onto our backup QB, a small town NE kid with unlimited potential and physical tools.

I mean, let's be honest...you did call HH the second coming of Tom Brady or some such **** 😂

interesting insight on the younger brother thing..

I always thought Chubba would have better interpersonal skills, as all younger siblings seem to have when compared to the oldest child. This usually leads to more success in the real world. Anyway, after last year's performance, Chubba scares me.. but as you pointed out.. not sure what was going on with Whip.. there are stories that Chubba was put in with no prep and so I hope that coach didn't screw him up.

One thing about HH that I sort of see.. is how he handles pressure. A couple years ago, when it was all sort of a joke, he lit things up during the spring game. This year, when there was a lot of pressure, he didn't fare so well.

I'm guessing all 3 QB's are going to play this year, at least a little.
When did HH ever ‘light things up’? He’s been largely turnover-prone and highly inaccurate as a passer. And he also seems to hold the ball too long and take bad sacks. But he does hit about 40% of his passes and breaks an occasional good run. And yet, it’s hard to say that Purdy has been any better.

Sims better stay healthy is all I’m saying

I have never trashed HH regardless of how many times you say it. Every single person I’ve heard or read who has watched HH practice has said that he needs to work on his accuracy. That’s not trashing a kid.

do you know if he was hurt? why bring this up except to trash him? you don't know anything about this situation and are merely speculating in order to further your obvious agenda. not to mention the fact you rail about how ****** a coach Whip was.

it's not trashing a kid to post his stats and observe his weak arm - all I do with purdy since the very first pass I saw him attempt 2 spring games ago.

facts are facts, regardless of how they stack up against your feelings.

King Kong, why do you like Haarberg so much?
(I'm not asking that in a negative connotation.)

I'm curious if you know him or if you have connection to his family? Or do you just like his potential?

6'5", 240lb kid with elite athleticism (fastest QB on the roster) and a huge arm

small town NE kid from a military family who was overlooked and poo poo'd by the @dinglefritzs of the world his entire life

in his first ever interview as a true frosh he essentially called AM a ***** & said there are zero excuses for ever losing in Memorial Stadium (40+mph gales blowing as he threw the game winning TD)

I have no idea what's not to like. this kid broke the Husker fan favorite mold. potential through the stratosphere. didn't take long for Rhule & Satt to notice what I have for 3 years.

I do hope HH is the backup. I’ve seen purdy in live game action and he sucked donkey Kong balls

In fact Purdy did have an injury. You’ve called Purdy “trash” as I recall. The comment on HH getting left home was in part a response to somebody’s comment about Whipple.

Where do you get that HH is the fastest QB on the roster. Rhule has said Sims has run 4.5. I doubt HH runs a 4.4.

In the spring Haarberg was the fastest QB, per Rhule, by MPH

Yes, Sims and purdy both ran
Sorry. Didn’t read or hear that anywhere but from you. MPH is great unless it takes you 15 yards to get up to speed. Look I DO NOT CARE who the backup QB ends up being. I hope we never have to play him.

May I advance a position that having two QBs of potential competing for #2 is a better situation than just having that kid who backed up Tommy Armstrong in 2016.

spring game 2 years ago, kid looked like a different guy than the last spring game

Kong and I both saw huge potential with HH after that performance.

That kid has all the tools if he puts them together to be wildly successful beyond what anyone thinks.

He was 8-22 (36%) passing with 1 interception and a fumble. your memory is playing tricks on you.

The last TD pass doesn't actually count. Time was expired but coaching savant SF gave him an extra play because, hey why not? REAL football doesn't actually work that way (unless you are texas).

As far as kong and dingle's little tiff goes: I think dingle is referencing a post I made last year on the subject.

Before the Michigan game, in the "Synek: SZN?" post, I posted the following:

HH is last string.

Read the OWH story about the QB situation:

Synek worked with the 2s Tuesday, Joseph said, and NU might look next to true freshman Richard Torres if necessary. Scholarship QB Heinrich Haarberg is evidently not a viable option — “No, he’s not hurt,” Joseph said. Fifth-year walk-on Matt Masker and Synek traveled to Ann Arbor last weekend along with Purdy and Smothers.

that throw (in hurricane force winds) gave HH as many comeback wins as AM in an NU uniform

Didn’t read that. Achieving the fastest MPH isn’t necessarily the greatest quantification of football speed. How fast you get to that peak speed is extremely important. What’s his 10 yard and 40 time. Beside that, that’s the last thing I’m worried about from our QB. If he runs 4.7, throws an accurate pass and makes good decisions he’s plenty fast. Again, I DON’T CARE who wins the backup QB job.

Remember in 2010 when nobody knew who this kid Martinez was, thought captain incapable zac lee would be starter or Cody green.

fair enough, but stats don't always tell the story.

At least HH shows flashes of something, enough to be praised by the coaching staff and has so far avoided any backhanded compliments :)

But let's not revise history Nikki. Last year you were having a pissing contest with kong and I as you were singing the praises of how great Purdy was.
