What % is the athletic budget vs academic? I don’t know, I am not there. I would suspect the academic $$ are close to 100 times the athletic.
Universities are set up for study and research, not sports.
This is something too few here want to recognize.
Sports are the, “Window Dressing”, of an Educational Institution.
I am glad Nebraska is getting billions of research dollars.
You are struggling with this one. Probably because you don't have any real experience with it. I do. The minute we joined the big 10 I never had to worry about missing a game again.
If I was in a bar in Florida and the NU game was on PPV would you beg the bartender to order PPV? For 1 person? How about if the bar doesn't have the downhill skiing network or whatever weird channel Big 12 games were sometimes on?
it is PPV for that bar in FL, just like it's PPV for you streaming your subscription to BTN+ or for anyone outside the B1G footprint to access BTN in the first place
in Omaha, is BTN free? or is it part of a premium cable package (PPV)?

It all came about because Texas wanted the Longhorn network and wanted every other school to bend over. (All Texas home games on the Longhorn network for which they got all of the money.) When schools pushed back, Texas threatened that OU and them were going to go to the PAC12. MU started looking for greener pastures and when the MU was talking to the B1G, NU said well if you are going to add other schools, "how about us?" Meanwhile, PAC12 shot down any chance of Texas having the Longhorn network if they were to join that conference so they stayed in the BIG12 so they could have their Longhorn network. The PAC12, thinking they were going to be adding UT and OU, had to end up settling for CU and UTAH.

According to several reports this morning, the much rumored broadcast deal between the University of Texas and ESPN has been finalized to the tune of $300 million over 20 years to create a network exclusive to Texas Longhorns sports.
The deal will reportedly yield around $15 million a year in revenue to the Texas athletic department, already one of the most profitable in collegiate athletics, in some years bringing in as much as $90 million in revenue as a department.
As reported previously, this deal solidifies the Texas Longhorns' reputation as a self-sufficient and business-first entity, which in light of current budget difficulties in the state of Texas, may come under harsh criticism.
Could this be Texas' first step in a drive to remove itself from dependency on the major conferences and strike out as an independent?
This broadcast deal dwarfs the previously signed arrangement between Notre Dame and NBC in 1991 for $38 million dollars over five years.
Under the deal with ESPN, the network will show both men's and women's sports and will kick-off prior to the 2011 collegiate football season. In 2011, the network will feature men's football, men's basketball and women's volleyball, the three strongest programs within one of the nation's most successful athletic programs.

Yeah it's free. It got added to the standard cable package in all Big 10 areas.
If you have the Big 10 network you can login to the app. Anywhere. That is the point. At the inlaws in BFE and no TV? BTN app. On vacation in Idaho? BTN app? At a wedding? BTN app.
I care about our football program and I am not OK with selling it out and watching it die for money. Not sure why you would be.
We are paying our head coach 8 million dollars a year. Think about that. We didn't stop trying. Bad decisions were made regarding hires. Big 10 had nothing to do with that.
The Big Ten has had everything to do with our downfall. I hope Rhule can get this tuned around, but he will have to overcome a lot. Joining this creepy *** cult of a conference has been terrible for us.

How is it PPV? PPV is by the game and then you have to order those individual games.
If you upgrade your cable package then you are always good to go anywhere there is cell or internet service. I once logged into a computer in a hospital waiting room and watched the Husker game while my wife's grandma was in the hospital (before I had a smart phone). That is the power of BTN.

the 90s definition has broadened. the one-time fee you're referring to is now spread out over the course of a year and access to games is even more restricted for NU fans outside of the footprint who don't pay for BTN.

Most Husker fans don't like to admit it, but we helped cause all of the uncertainty of the B12. Had we stayed the conference would have been just fine without Missouri, ATM (and possibly Colorado). Once we dipped, the B12 really suffered. Even if Texas still ruled the roost, Nebraska/OU would have been second in the pecking order. Now we're not even in the mix.
Looks like I was off by about 28 hours. Also believe that 28 hour delay is going to result in several others getting fired over this too (including the baseball coach and AD).

Kansas, SD, Wyo & MO are also surrounding states outside the B1G footprint
