You know, its not like Maravich's stats are just slightly better than everyone else's, hence, fodder for good argument. His scoring stats are so far above the clouds its doubted anyone will every touch them. And as stated, his capability with the three point line would have been unfathomable.
So stuff about his dad being coach or integrated teams seem minor details compared with the enormity of what he did and if we're going to go with a ledger he played only three seasons remember. He didn't just do some things well, he created whole concepts.
And for Pete's sake, he didn't go one on one with James Naismith with an old peach basket. I am not sure how people percieve the era before cell phones but it was much like today minus the blaring information.
This goat crap is just that, crap. There are great players in different circumstances. Sometimes those are real comparable.
And another thing: If the times that Pete played had conditions that didn't maximize their potential like today then you can only pile on more accolades to someone who didn't have a layer of camps etc. or information like today's players have. You're defeating your own argument.
Btw, basketball isn't that complicated.
