I don’t think he has a guy and is getting turned down- Nebraska is no longer top 20 job more like 25-50 type job. That’s why no announcement yet and will probably be Mickey by default this weekend

Why does it have to be a top 20 or top 50 job to have your coach lined up by the end of the season? Especially when you’ve had six weeks to conduct your search. To me, it’s as simple as know who you are. As I told Dingle, if Alberts is talking to the number of people that he says he is, then he would have an idea on where Nebraska sits in the pecking order. At which point you go after coaches, that will be in that range. I simply don’t understand what the ranking of the job or if Nebraska is currently a “10“ hast to do with hiring a coach and having that coach ready to announce at the end of the season, again when you’ve had six weeks to conduct research
I think to a coach with some sort of brain stem, nebraska is a top 10 job..

I'm anticipating a PC no earlier than Sunday. If there's no PC on Sunday I guess I'll be stressed.

But hes holding things very close to his vest. He has his guy and his guy is coaching. So who knows when the leak will happen, but it happens when and if trev WANTS it to happen.
I for one wont be panicking if there is not announcement saturday, even thoughI still might not like who the eventual hire is.

Honestly, I don't think we're necessarily that far away IF (but only IF) Trev gets the right guy. I look at other programs that were able to be turned around quick (eg., Illinois while not a world beater is doing much, much better than I thought they could do in the first year). We've got more talent in the young players than people realize because they haven't been developed properly. And with NIL and the portal you can shore up weak positions quicker than ever before. So it depends, IMO, on getting the right coach in place.
I don't know ANYTHING about the search but my gut tells me you're more right about it than the rest of the posters.
There have been 2 other searches like this last year. LSU and USC. Both used the search firm we are using and both searches were incredibly tight lipped. I dont think Trev is even telling his wife who he is going after.
I can understand the appeal of both. Honestly, I refuse to hate any candidate before they are eliminated as a possibility. I just like Fickell's sustained resume at Div 1 head coaching level.
Would you take over this mess if you were at OU or Norte Dame? Those are the schools you used as examples for hires. Lincoln Riley wasn’t coming to NU for the package he got from USC. Same for Kelly.
It’s not an excuse. It’s a fact. What guy are you going to poach? Fickell is the only guy and IF we hire him I think people are going to be disappointed with his recruiting and record in the B1G. He may very well be announced Sunday but if not that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not an option.
Well, it IS Nebraska right? Besides recruiting because of geo location, which I hear NIL has kinda made a moot point, why wouldn't a coach come here? Its a chance to rebuild a once great program and show what you can do. You got to have balls the size of Pluto but man, if you're a cocky sumbitch who's confident, why not?

You are failing to see the point. This is not a comparison of Nebraska to USC or Nebraska to LSU, or if Lincoln Riley would’ve come to Nebraska, or if Nebraska is a 10 or an eight.
As I’ve written multiple times, if during a six week search, Albert has not determined what level of program Nebraska is based on his multiple conversations with people all over the country that he proclaims to have had, and still isn’t ready to announce a hire immediately after the season is over, then there were flaws with the search or he was turned down multiple times and overshot.
I don't think he has been turned down by anyone. That type of stuff almost always leaks put.
But if we end up with a guy like Bronco or MJ then we'll know for sure that he swung and missed on multiple targets.
Remember those were just darkhorse names of people. I didnt come up with that list it was relayed to me. It could be that some were candidates, some were talking to for “trev seeking advice”, or some were being talked about…..but either way trev is talking to people and so is the search firm. At that time rhule was being considered.
Whether or not I end up liking the hire, one thing Im confident about is that trev did a real search.
I don’t share your view. Overshot? Should he have aimed low? You were the one who used USC and LSU announcing when they did as the models for how it’s done. Our situation is way different than theirs. IF we get an announcement by Monday it’s going to be Rhule, Leipold or Campbell
Im not a booster or big insider, and I used to have more sources, but I trust the source from stuff ive posted. I dont post everything I hear as some of it is iffy.
Hes in charge and is handling it. He could be sending false flags who knows. Hes keeping his cards close.
Look at it this way, if I have 60 days to get married, and I spend the first 10 days calling every supermodel in the world and everyone of them tells me you know who would be a great match for you. Is that chick over there. The chick over there is 20 pounds overweight with a great rack. At that point, I better start looking for a woman that is in that range. That is my level, I am an eight or a seven or whatever number you want to designate that to be. If I spend the next 50 days continuing to feel out any other supermodel I may have missed in the original process, then I have overshot. LSU or USC is getting a look from the supermodel, that’s just the way it is. But that doesn’t mean my deadline has been extended. I still have 60 days to find a wife, so I better get looking at the eights or the sevens.
I personally know a major booster but not well enough anymore to ask them these things.

Trev had the money to fire frost last year and I heard he made an enticing offer to a big name to come talk about the job and was turned down.
my thought…..Trev might not want an a&m or mich state sized buyout but salary is competitive.
When this is all said and done, trev being the professional he is will say things like “we got our guy” and “no one else was offered” etc by using technicalities but that may or may not be true. Thats part of why hes keeping things so close.
Whenever the hire is announced, I just don't want my first reaction to being, "you gotta be fricking kidding me."
We are not at the top of the pecking order like USC was. I’m not sure why you think we should be able to announce something before Monday or even the week after given the conference championship games.

My gut right now says... It's going to be one of the above.
This. I don’t think we’re getting the splash hire most wanted. IMO other than Rhule or BOB I don’t think there’s one to be had. I think the only job Fickell leaves Cinci for us OSU.
Because you have to know what you are. Go find YOUR guy. Not USCs guy or LSU’s guy. Find the best guy that is going to tell you yes. Just make sure he isn’t in his late 50’s and make sure he wants his staff to grind on the recruiting trail.
From a PR standpoint, an announcement would garner the most attention during conference championship weekend. And that would especially make sense if the coach is coaching that day. if it is fickle, and he plays a conference championship in the afternoon, all evening there would be talk about our new hire during the evening games. Now, if our coach is not in the championship game, probably best to get it underway right after our Iowa game.
Oofta. If true, this is a big blow to the pride. 20 years have taken its toll. Kinda sad, really.
