We've still got a long two weeks of ridiculous message board speculation ahead of us yet....by next week we'll be hearing that Mickey is going to be named AD and Trev will be the next coach.
As long as we're experimenting -- why not? It's probably never been done before. What's the worst that could happen?

Isn’t that what most CEOs do? They answer for their leadership.
The problem is that it doesn’t make any sense for a football program. I have no doubt that you heard what you heard but I think your source has it wrong. Sounds pretty far fetched to me

Nope. I don’t. Again, wish I hadn’t said anything cause people on this board want to ***** and complain all the dam time and when you actually send something that came within side the organization people treat you like **** for it.
Do I think Trev is given insight to the players? IDK. But the kids aren’t dumb. They see more than we do. And obviously that could be a rumor within. Why I said “word on the street” And again, I’m sorry I posted. You all would rather just jerk off to your own posts then actually read something interesting. This board is toxic. Miss the days when it was actually worth something.

247 took most of the intelligent people off this board. Sean took almost all the rest of the decent people. Now we are stuck with a very small handful of good posters and the rest are just ****. By large just left with people that never bring anything original or creative or can’t even give constructive criticism. Just people whose responses are “that’s bull ****” people that are sometime referenced as mouth breathers
Mickey Joseph is 7 years older than Rhule and Rhule has a lot of run left in his career. He's only 47 years old. I hope you can see why the scenario you've posted is looked at as strange. Joseph's stint as IHC has been viewed as a job interview and that's not fair to Mickey. He took over a busted roster than is even now more busted due to injury. He generally has kept the kids playing hard, but the asymmetry in the general quality of players was huge last Saturday.
If Mickey is a HC next year, it will almost assuredly be with a different program. I hope he is retained at NU as he is a damn good position coach and an ace recruiter. If he is hired as NU's HC, I doubt Rhule will be coming to Lincoln.

Got the same **** when I had posted this player was a silent comment. And in 20 years on this board I never state stuff like this. Only when I have a good inside to it
Don't take it so personally. Even you have to admit it sounds crazy.

Does the player who told you this have CTE, by chance? Because that rumor is insane.

Matt Rhule is not going to come here to be an assistant who does all the work. And Mickey is not going to agree to be a Press Secretary who doesn't get to make any decisions.

word on the street is it’s both Rhule and Mickey.

Rhule not going to be the HC though. He doesn’t want to do PR **** or much of the none football **** that comes with being the head guy. Isn’t going to make a dollar extra from being coach, so he won’t be taking the title so that they can keep his salary low. Plus he doesn’t want to put in the hours of a HC. Now game decisions, X’s & O’s, staff, style of play etc, Rhule will be unofficially Head coach.

But when it comes to the official title, that will be Mickey. Mickey will be the face of Nebraska football and the one answering questions in meetings. This is going to give Mickey time to learn OJT.

so it’s kind of ironic that we have people fighting on this board for Rhule and for Mickey. Why not both?

Based on the vanilla offense we saw during the 2nd half on Saturday, I think it’s clear that MJ never tried to override Whipple because he can’t do any better himself. There’s no creativity in the play calling at all between these two, that I could see.
Whipple called the plays from the booth.

running games are pretty fun right now, too

miami, sf, philly, dallas, giants all turning back the clock in many ways with rush offense

I think Saquon carried the rock 36 times yesterday
This new running game in the NFL has made under bets great again

It will be the perfect NU solution where Rhule will be the scapegoat for all losses and former husker MJ will be credited for all the wins

likewise if the arrangement works Trev will be heralded as a genius and if it flops it was the damn boosters interfering once again

mack brown has been doing exactly this for going on 3 decades

many and more head coaches outsource 95% of what happens on gameday

I didn't see any issue with that clip. Obviously super frustrated, obviously knows he's going to get fired, looked like a fairly normal interaction in that situation. I don't know much about him as a coach, but that clip didn't tell me anything.
You sure that 20 second clip isn't concrete evidence that he'll be a failure at Nebraska?

Matt Rhule wouldn’t come to NU to be Mickey’s assistant
The thought that crossed my mind is what if Ruhle is the HC, does his normal 3 years and out and Mickey has a front seat window watching Ruhle run the team. Doesn't constitute actual HC experience,

No doubt, if Mickey is more involved and learns how a guy took a couple of college teams and built them, it could mean Mickey "could" be in line for the job if Ruhle scoots out of here.

I'm sure Trev wouldn't be hiring Ruhle just to rebuild this thing and not have him commit to a long-term coaching position. Yet, Ruhle hasn't seemed to mind spending a few years at a school and looking for another **** program to try to resurrect.

For all we know, Ruhle is here for one year, Texas cans Sark, and Ruhle bolts for the Longhorns. It's not like he needs this NU job.

Just throwing it out there.

After the Michigan game it is pretty clear that Smothers is not a college qb. Mickey probably made the best choice for the team sticking with Purdy.

Picking between 2 **** sandwiches means you're still eating a **** sandwich.
What showed that? I watched the game and watched the offense being called when he was in…

Why is he a chump?
I am not a fan of Rhule and here is why. He has coached 4 seasons at Temple in the ACC and 3 season at Baylor in the Big 12. 28-23 at Temple. Last two seasons at Temple he was 10-4 and 10-3. In 2015 they were 1-2 against the only ranked teams they played and lost the conference title game and their bowl game against MAC's Toledo. In 2016 Temple only played one ranked team, No. 19 Navy and won. Then Temple lost in the conference title game and without Rhule coaching Temple lost in their bowl game.

The first two seasons at Baylor he was 1-11 and 7-6. His third season looks great at first glance, 11-3. However, those 3 losses were the only ranked teams Baylor played. Pretty good teams, OU twice and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

Combine his college career with his failure with the Panthers and I am not sure he is a slam dunk. Temple does not play anywhere near a Big Ten schedule, and he was only at Baylor three seasons with only one good year. Better than Riley and Frost, but I am not sure you can say he is better than Bo.

That's fair. And I'm not necessarily a Rhule guy. honestly I don't know what the right answer is for a coach outside of the pipe dream coaches. I'm glad I'm not making this decision.

I could maybe see it that way. Just seems like an odd take the other way posited earlier vs yours.
